Referring to Americans moving to another country, specifically in Europe, Asia or Africa. Our ancestors moved here from these countries, for the same reasons that you mentioned. Why Americans are moving out of the United States, I call this reverse immigration. Going back to Europe, whether it's Great Britain, Spain, Germany, France etc. Right now it's just a slow drip out of the faucet. Coming a year or two, alot of Americans are going to find out. Trump and the Republican party, had broken the United States.

As far as your question about should you leave your country. As a mixed race family with a teenage daughter we have been trying to many years to make changes and be part of our community. When you get to a point where you don't feel like you belong, are safe, or your values align with the majority of your country you have to decide what quality of life you want and where that is best achieved. There is nothing wrong with doing what is best for your family.

Kristin, what I like most about this video is the commentary and perspective you offer after you identify some of the celebrities who have moved (or may move) abroad. I realize you measure your words and you take care to avoid delving into your own personal social and political ideology - and of course I understand your reasons for that. Still, the information you do choose to share has value nonetheless and I’m sure your audience finds it very helpful. I know I do. As for the celebrities who move abroad, or, for that matter, for others as well, I would never presume to sit in judgment of their decision. Everyone has their own motives, their own stage of life, and their own burdens to bear. Their motives be financial and economic, or they may be about health, or they may be about life style, or they may be based on values such as human rights, justice, and liberty. You point this out yourself. It’s so easy to sit in our armchair and pass judgment on what other people do. It’s so easy to have all the “answers” for other people. For my part, I have worked in nonprofit organizations for many years, and I have done volunteer work as well. But I take no bows for this. We each have our own gifts and contributions to make. We all play a part in shaping the communities and societies in which we live. If someone feels a need to cut their losses and focus on themselves and their own well-being, they have my full support and encouragement. I don’t think of them as selfish in the least. None of us is made of steel, and sometimes we need to step back and focus on our own health and that of our family and friends. My only advice to people who move abroad is to go with an open mind, free of expectations, and to recognize that you will begin this new chapter of your life as a guest in another culture. I would tell them to leave any swagger and bravado behind. Learn the local language, customs, and traditions as well as you can. Engage with the locals and be friendly and respectful. There is no utopia. There are pros and cons to all countries - even if not in equal measure. The best we can do is try to select place that is a good match for your way of life and your values. Identify your deal-breakers in advance, and then choose from among the countries that pass that test. Finding a good country and culture is not unlike finding a good life partner. You look for a compatibility of interests and outlook. You share what you have in common, and you respect the ways in which you are different. Also, don’t burn your bridges. Do your best to keep your options open because even as you may undertake the monumental decision to move abroad today, you may want at some point to return to the country of your birth. Kristin - you’re the best. Thank you so much for this video and for your full body of work. You are an inspiration. -Jeff M

Kristin, re: stay and fight. Name one country, empire or kingdom in human history that rose to greatness, declined to the point the US is today, then rose back to greatness again. There are none. Once a nation declines like we have, there’s no returning to greatness. We have all the wealth, etc., but the US has lost its luster in many other ways. We are terrible compared to 40-50 years ago. I don’t even recognize my own country anymore.😢 If people want to leave and can afford it, that’s their business, not anyone else’s. Great video.

@@wandab3843 I guess each time in history had its features. I loved the music of the 60s and 70s and the relaxed sound that it mostly brought. But then was it not that racism and gender equality were still being addressed? If the US goes isolationist, then it can't also be a world leader, and in world affairs it will be displaced and viewed as declined outside the USA. Imo.
@cjoylabelle2 сағат бұрын
@@wandab3843 Yes, things were better, people weren’t as divisive. Thanksgiving was an uneventful holiday for the most part. Political BS was not top of mind. There was more solidarity amongst US citizens. We had for the most part similar views and concerns. Life was more about day-to-day living, progressing at work, family life, education, and having fun. I’m not saying it was perfect. Of course there were evils and people living on the fringes of society. But in general the concerns of the day were way less polarizing than they are today. Now, top of mind for most US citizens is immigration, sexuality concerns, and, of course with inflation, financial survival. The rich have gotten so much richer taking more and more of the world's financial pie so to speak, that it has left the rest of us wondering why it is now so hard to get by and who is to blame. Since 1979 in the US, average wage growth has decelerated sharply, with the biggest declines in wage growth at the bottom and the middle. Google it. The wealthy powers that be have deployed their tactics to distract us from their greedy thievery by making the less well off (over 99% of the US population) fight amongst ourselves. It’s unfortunately a tell as old as time when you look at the history of many other nations. The plutocrats are winning and who knows what’s in store for the rest of us with the emergence of AI and robotics. The US is now going to start experiencing what many in the rest of the world have been experiencing. Google dictatorship tactics. It’s a sad time for the US and humanity.

It's not really anyone's business what celebrities - or anyone, for that matter - does with their lives. So if they want to move? Great! If they want to stay? Great! Also: as you somewhat mentioned, these people have significant resources. I'd be surprised if most of them, if not all, already have property in one or more countries for visiting.

Thank you for your video. The statement toward the end regarding wanting to enjoy your retirement and 'golden years' was a welcome addition. I've spent the last 40 yrs fighting for LGBTQi rights in this country only to now find that they are most likely going to be taken away by a far right court. I've fought for women's rights including the right to terminate a pregnancy and bodily autonomy as well as immigrant rights and the rights of all people who live in this country. I'm tired! It would be nice if the Millenials took up a little of the mantle and started to exert their power, but the internet and video games, smart phones and apathy have taken over. I say leaving the US and letting them understand the reality of how a democracy can work or be taken away would do them a world of good. Why should I stay and spend the money I've made, saved and set aside for what was supposed to be a calmer time in my life supporting the lazy people who want it all handed to them? Leaving is the only way I know to maintain my sanity.

Thank you for pointing out the negative impact on the local economy. I am very interested in moving abroad, and quite aware of the rush of western individuals moving into places and making the economy unlivable for locals. And investors from other countries using the golden visa leading to driving up housing prices. Celebrity or not it is something to be aware of. If you want to move to another country you should be aware of the economic impact and support local as much as possible. Rent from a local family not an out of country landlord who has driven up rental prices. Shop at local stores and cafes as much as possible. Get involved with local charities, etc. We are considering all of that as we get closer to potentially being able to move.

Hi Kristin I've been a subscriber of your channel for quite a while now. I'm a long term x pat from the LA suburbs who left LA and the US for Spain back in 98 when times were good for many. At the time I felt disenfranchised by the culture and couldn't stand the shallowness and how fake people had become during the me 90s. So it was a personal issue I had not anything else. In reality, especially nowadays, how much money you make says a lot to people about who you are. I had just graduated from USC yet felt overwhelmed at having to compete in an extremely competitive job market. So I took the easy way out. I have no idea how my life would have been different had I stayed, but I've chosen a modest life in Spain as a freelance online teacher. However, although I've been a permanent resident here for decades, and have a steady income, I'll never be able to afford to buy my own home or have a family. It gets harder when you're older.

Regarding renouncement of US citizenship: USA taxes any earnings that a person made in the US. So, why would you renounce? You still pay taxes to the IRS and would have no vote for the President. That is one reason to keep a US Passport. The other is obvious, you can never get it back if at a later time you have a regret. A case of "buying your way in" is Peter Thiel and his citizenship of New Zealand, through the Investor Residency Visa. Love your vlog.
@Wee_Catalyst57 минут бұрын
Not actually how taxation of existing earnings works when you’re renouncing citizenship-depends on whether you’re a qualified expat or not (~$2M+ in assets is the current determining factor) as well as which investment vehicles those assets have been kept in, etc Do some research before posting about things you don’t understand, you’re just cheapening the internet

Everyone has their own reasons and tendencies for fight vs flight. Particularly in retirement or approaching it, a lot of people just want to enjoy life, as they see the quantity of it they have left, dwindling. But on the other hand, those in tight-knit families with many descendants, might prefer to stay and help the future generations get through any difficult times. Personally, whether I have 10, 15, or 20 good years left, I have more options of how to proceed, and more things to do in each option, that there is time for. Whether to pick a fun, light workload versus a grueling, heavy workload is unclear. I'm up for either. My tendency is to do things which are enjoyable enough that my state of mind remains positive and stable, but within that constraint, to spend at least part of my time doing absolutely the hardest things I'm still capable of doing. Contributing effort in various ways, is something I value doing, though I don't disrespect people who need to just coast and enjoy after they feel they need to just relax and enjoy life.
