I just wish we got footage of him using a properly tuned (e)kit, I only ever see people dial in awful sounds when even a TD-4 can sound like a million bucks. Which is something that doesn't hold up in the context of the mix necessarily, but the clip here sounds so much worse for it.

The solo at the end of Whiplash was done by a New York studio guy who remained anonymous because it was a non-union gig and he didn't want to get in trouble with the union. This is according to Peter Erskine, who says he knows who did the solo but won't tell because of the union.

My middle school does a marching bad unit for Memorial Day, and I got put on the 16” bass drum. I obviously can’t see over it so when I was walking home one day after school, (I stayed after school to work on homework so the only people in the back field were “the cool kids”) I didn’t notice I was walking into the one of the garden areas, which are lower than the sidewalk, and I fell. I sprained my arm, cut my lip on my bass drum, and cut my knee up. I have low pain tolerance so I started crying, and all the cool kids laughed like it was a literal comedy show. It’s been 3 ish days and my lip is still swollen 250% of it’s normal size. The cuts in my knee have slightly healed up, and my arm is still black and blue. I came into drum line rehearsal today and the first thing my band director says is “I heard what happened, are you okay?” Contrary to popular belief, there was no “is the drum okay” and he just said “Kids are more important than drums, they can’t be replaced but drums can.”
