Thank you so much for this video! We will be staying in 8240 on Celebrity Ascent. This cabin seems huge😳. I bring my husband a fresh bar of soap in a small net bag I got on Amazon so he doesn’t have to deal with the dispensers. That seat does look small but will do for 7 days. Thanks again!

Terrific Video. I will be sailing on then Edge in February 2022. I have booked an accessible veranda stateroom. Prior to the pandemic, we sailed on Princess's newest ship and were aghast that the accessible room did not have a power button to open and close the cabin door. If I was in the cabin alone I had to open the door and get out into the hallway before it closed on me.

Thank you for this. I’m worried about the seat in the shower too. The seat looks a lot smaller than they used to be. As for the shampoo ect, I guess one way around it would be purchase a set of refillable travel bottles and fill them up as you need them.

Very nice. I’ve actually been looking at the ship and thinking of booking a cruise in March 2022. One question about the room. Is there a storage space underneath the beds? I would have to bring a Hoyer type of lift and that needs to roll under the bed with clearance. I’ve gone on celebrity several times during the 90s - 2007 and was always able to use a Hoyer lift because there was clearance under the beds. Thanks for the tour. 👍🏼

Thanks Sylvia and very interesting tour. We are fans of celebrity including Captain Kate on that ship, The Edge. We enjoy cruising in spite of me being a quadriplegic in an electric wheelchair. However, we need a bit of help each morning helping to transfer me from bed into my wheelchair. It’s not a lift, merely a side transfer but it’s gotten to be a bit too much for Laurie on her own. We would be more than glad to give five dollars or so to one of the the cleaning staff each morning and we’re flexible on timing. The ships won’t promote this but have you ever heard of anyone doing that directly with staff? That would get us back on the cruise ships. Thanks much

Unfortunately they’re not going to do that for you because of liability issues. More or less the same reason why flight attendance can’t help disabled passengers use the lavatory on board planes.

as a physically disabled person also ..i agree totally about where the taps (faucets lol) and also the free shampoo ect.. way too high.. Thx for showing us. Im going on a cruise in Nov (hopefully 2021) and have got my first accessable cabin..I missed out last yr cause and able person got one over me..That should stop..Disabled ppl should always get first preference over and abled body person.in that sense. Worst part of it was the woman was a friend and was bragging about getting one.. She even knew id asked for one and didnt get it..

What line was it where you missed out? It does depend, but most USA cruise companies are required to follow at least certain parts of Civil Rights laws - which typically includes the same provision that hotels have to follow regarding accessible rooms (basically they shouldn’t be reserving a specifically accessible room unless someone with a disability particularly requests to reserve it, or, if they have filled each of their other rooms first, then they can rent the room to the next customer- regardless of disability- they don’t have to keep it empty for a chance later booker. On cruises, it’s more like, if every other cabin of that class is booked, then they can book the accessible room to the next customer paying for that class of cabin/state room - they don’t have to make someone Payless for an upgrade, or give them a lesser class room if there is one left available in that class uncooked, and it’s the accessible room, and no one has asked to book it yet.) and, of course, this all only applies to US cruise companies, in any rate :(

This is the only reason I haven't sailed on any other cruise line other than Disney. I can pick my cabin (based on availability obviously) and know that its mine to keep. I want to branch out to other cruise lines, but the thought of not knowing what I was getting, or the possibility of getting bumped would worry me to death.

Would be a LOT better if there were power points next to the bed to charge powered chairs! xx
@spintheglobe5 жыл бұрын
Hazel Simmons There actually is one outlet next to the bed on the left. I can only enter the bed from the right side, so I had to use the extension cord to charge my power chair that way.

I wish that Royal Caribbean would follow suit and make their accessible rooms have automatic entry doors. I've been on the Oasis, the allure, and the harmony and we always stayed in the accessible junior suite. The only one that had an accessible automatic entry door was on the Oasis of the seas. It is so upsetting that I have complained about this and they have done nothing to fix the situation. I only have use of one arm and I am paralyzed in both of my legs therefore I am chair-bound or scooter bound and I am unable to push the door open and pull the door open. This makes it so I have to always have my family with me to let me in and out, which is very inconvenient for them.
@spintheglobe5 жыл бұрын
shadow03clb I am really sorry to hear that. When I sailed on the serenade of the seas, my cabin had an automatic door.
@shadow03clb5 жыл бұрын
@@spintheglobe yes, that's the odd thing. It seems the older ships are equipped with automatic doors. Yet, the newer more advanced ships, which Brag of the technology they have, did not have enough sense to put in automatic doors. They have no problem putting in a robotic bar. Maybe since you are an advocate for accessible cruising, this is something you could contact Royal Caribbean with. My complaint seems to not reach anyone and all I get is I'm sorry or I see. It was great having that one room on the Oasis of the seas to be able to go in and out by myself. You know, that was the only accessible room on the entire ship that has an automatic entry door. It seems as though other Cruise lines have this already thought out. I've only been on Royal, but I've seen celebrity, princess, and Norwegian videos and all have had automatic entry doors. I love Royal Caribbean but that really is a shame on them moment. I do agree with you about the shower situation. That bench is really small, and the shower benches are bigger on the Royal Caribbean ships, it would be nice to have the faucet either behind us or on the side and then what I would like is a bar in front of us.

I travel with a service dog so that I can be independent with more of these things, and he is trained to push down on door handles and push the door open (at least enough to get a chair in to push the rest of the way through). The problem is the cabin doors where you have to get your keycard slotted in just right for it to unlock, but then get it out again once you are in the door-way/going through the door. I am interested to see what this will be like on the Princess Cruise line now that all doors will unlock with a Medallion that can be on your neck or wrist, or on the MSC line where it’s a wrist band replacing all keycards. I think I might be able to better deal with cabin doors that aren’t always automatic, (with my dog partner still) if this new tech at least makes it easier to unlock. Though, while they were using 2020 to retrofit for this tech, and while other companies are still “teaching up” for “the new world of travel in a viral age”, it’s a good for all the cruise lines to think about putting in automatic doors too in lots more locations - not just for accessibility specific cabins, but maybe /most/ cabins, and certainly in every public bathroom, lounge, comedy club, restaurant, meeting room- etc. on the ship - it would reduce contact points for travelers, and require a lot less constant cleaning by staff- cut down on possible germ spread (just the regular bacteria etc. that cruise ships have always had to worry about when so many people are living in a small space, eating, touching themselves, and touching the same surfaces all day) At least, I think a good argument could be made right now that it would be healthily and fiscally responsible for the ships to retrofit cabins to at least push-button automatic (1 touch point), if not better. It’s a good time to make the argument- while they are re-kitting to come back in to service, and we can appeal not just to their “create some accessibility”, but maybe get more because the accessibility will also improve health and safety- which they are spending money on right now.

It simply amazes me that we are living in 2021 and people are still so ignorant as to make an "accessible" bathroom and still get half the damn thing wrong. Until i as a wheelchair user can stay in a hotel room/cruise cabin with with nearly 0 assistance these industries are failing to meet the standard of true accessibility.

I do not understand how anyone sitting on that little plastic seat could change the temperature of the water, or even reach for the handheld showerhead. I don’t know who designed these bathrooms but they obviously are not doing so from that stupid little seat
