Unfortunately Mike Starr never recovered from Laynes death. He was so deeply scarred and even apologized to Layne mother on Celebrity Rehab and she accepted. The biggest enemy to ourselves is "ourselves". I found my bf dead at 24 and I can say I never got closure. I was addicted to rock cocaine or crack. I stopped when my sister ask me to stop trying to kill myself. Now I am 21 years sober and still keeping clean. RIP to all who died from substance abuse.

Addicts are usually trying to numb out pain from childhoods. I wasn't born an addict I became an addict by trying to fill the hole in my soul and numb out childhood pain. Most Americans are addicts of some sort. Not having our childhood needs met and or trauma/abuse is the cause of most of societies ills, including addictions. I'm sorry for your boyfriend but happy for you.

Stupid but hey it is real and am 21 years sober and in physical pain. LOL

@@moriganna67ify I'm glad your alive and had a sister that cared about you being alive too. People are addicts for a reason. So many people don't understand addiction and are very harsh about people who are, yet they might be a food addict, smoker, sex or shopping addict and not even understand their addicts too. Addiction is not a moral thing but used as a way most of the time to numb out and not feel.

I think this show made these addictions worse for these people and was a totally horrible thing to do. They're already celebrities with problems and then you're gonna film them and exploit their addictions for a television show to make a bunch of Hollywood scum money? I knew some of them died but I had no idea it was this many people that died. That's like a third of the people. Dr. Drew should be ashamed of himself. You don't force people into rehab and put cameras on them, rehab in itself is traumatic and you're gonna stick cameras in people's faces? Mike Starr must've gotten back on methadone cause it is very hard to stay clean off opiates if you've been on methadone for a long time. I used to be on Klonopin and 135mg of methadone which is a lot. Now I'm only on 50mg. Hopefully one day I'll be off it but it's more addicting than heroin in my opinion.

Agree with the OP. These stars were rendered mere entertainment for millions who watched, wondering who'd be next patient doing something shocking or otherwise noteworthy. The human interest stories of participants were presented in a catchy manner. Perhaps such a show might encourage un-inclined addicts to get help. However, even though it might be helpful to a number of people watching the show, I would imagine that the ones being filmed were done more harm than good" . The audiences, and the show's bigwigs are those reaping benefit. The patients? Reduced, in their most vulnerable times, to "entertainment." When commoditizing the most intimate experiences for thirsty audiences and a paycheck, it cheapens something very important, necessary for creating the required new life crucial for thriving and sobriety (or controlled moderation; a rarely successful alternative).

I really liked Mike Starr. He was absolutely sincere. He showed his gut and that was courageous. I don't think being forgiven stopped the haunting of it going through his head and reinjuring his psyche. Guilt wasn't killing him, it had already killed him, confused him and rendered him lost. I feel so much understanding with all the addicts. My father was in AA by 1956 and I saw a sober culture that saved people 's lives from an early age. From drunkard to tradesman to business people. I watched dozens of people prosper from this addict to addict help. It is the most heartwarming thing to watch. From deeply saddened to absolute healthy happiness. Some small contingency in AA and NA are like the coolest people on the planet and are talented out of their minds. I went to a sober party with a friend. And we were into music and we played local clubs and went into rehearsal studios regularly. I was used to the regular player and this sober dude lights up a guitar and I was instantly in shock. He sounded just like Steve Ray Vaughn. His timing blew me away. I could not believe and I was so mesmerized by this skill it threw me off. I got nervous behind the drum kit playing with someone who was so damn sharp, not really knowing how to be real blues drummer, I sounded like garbage. I was accustomed to the newer metal drumming. In retrospect I needed to hit the snare completely differently bass drub wrong. I failed to get the drums right for him, but I'll never forget how he blew my wig back with those blues riffs and that there are special people who get sober. I clocked that. This cool sober cat wasn't even copying anyone. I listen to blues. Everything he did was original music written by him. He wasn't cocky, he had a very humble attitude, but he did pack it up and leave rather quickly. Who knows where he was going, but it was going to be sober event for him and that guitar was going to be rocking the hell out of any place he went. If Steve Ray met this dude, they would have liked each other immediately. He was Steve's equal. And he was a sober, cool, dude. Even though he smoked me and my friends. My singer had nothing for this guy. HA HA HA.... My singers mouth was wide open with that "holy marcel" look on this face when he lit up that guitar. Not a word came out and he stepped away from the mic.. It would have been nice to have Mike Star and Layne Staley meet this guy. He was chiasmatic. He made people want to be sober. I'm looking for some guys to play with. I'll write a song about sobriety and why being sober is where it is at. I'll dedicate the song to Dr. Drew Pinsky. I know he tries every day with those who are struggling, sick and suffering alcoholism and addiction. He's always managing this. That is payment beyond the money he makes. Once and a while he gets to see someone who adopted the sober life and succeed. That must be so satisfying in his heart. I helped a guy study Industrial Hygiene and I mentored him, he passed the professional exam and he has a good job now. What I can promise that you'll get a pathway back to a life if you adopt certain principles. And find those cool sober guys around. They are around, you have to search them out by staying sober and going to a lot of meetings. Sooner or later you're going to bump into one of these special people and they are kindred spirits. They are willing to help, but you cannot put their sobriety in any risk in any way or you will not be considered by them. They will come off totally aloof. If Layne and Mike could have met someone like this before they got ill on drugs and they'd be with us today. These are 1/10,000 folks. Very rare low key people, but they are friends with everyone. And they go to meetings all the time that their sobriety maintain its strength. There are extraordinary people in AA / NA. You won't find them with a short search. PS: Favorite success is Sean Young. She looks happy again. Yay Sean!

Why though. Rodney king was a habitual repeat offender just like George Floyd and that fatso kid who stole cigars from a store by bullying the old age guy who was on the counter. All three of them thought that they are above the law this was the reason that instead of shutting up after being arrrested he tried to use his race card by abusing them and telling them again and again that how he will walk out in just 2 days and this provocation is what led to the beating that he deserved or you can also phrase it like this he fucked around and found out so yeah he was a criminal and got what he deserved. My heart goes out to those people whose retail shops and so many other family businesses were burnt to the ground for something they had nothing to. do with all because of the ensuing riots that are a permanent fixture in every protest held by the plack people. I mean looting and arson are like therapy to black people as if it relieves their grief for their fallen criminals somehoe..and this has been happening for decades now a black criminal is killed the first thing his community does is rioting, looting and arson destroying the livelihood of people who have nothing to do with Shit the blacks are protesting for..and the funny part is that more than 80 percent of black people protesting have no clue about what is it that they are protesting for. People who can disrespect the national anthem of their great nation by taking a knee have no right to be a citizen of that country. They should just be deported to the great African democracies.. like South Africa a country that was the example of growth and prosperity and was on the verge of bring a first world country when whites were in power now has turned into the most corrupt country that boasts a crime rate higher than the Burj khalifa and all this downfall started when the blacks came into power...black people can be physically strong and more athletic than the whites but are always found lacking in the brain side of things and can't even rule a precinct without fucking up everything. So yeah that is exactly what they proved in South Africa. Just look at the African counties and their rulers or political leadership and it becomes evidently clear that their standards are so pathetic that not a single country in the entire continent of Africa can be held up as a beacon of good governance All their elections are rigged, their economies are some of the worst in the world, they have the largest deposits of valuable minerals in the world but still dont know how to use them. So yeah blacks cannot rule themselves and that is why they need white ruling class to save them from themselves as they love to cut down the branch of the tree they are sitting on.

6:49 I was in a car wreck and blew my L4 and L5 disc. You talk about the worst pain ever. My doc put me on demorol and vicodin at first and then increased the dose. I just knew something was wrong with my back 6 weeks after the accident and told him that something was seriously wrong and my left leg was going numb. Had an MRI to confirm my discs were blown. Went to neurosurgeon 8 weeks after the wreck and tons of pain pills. After the surgery they put me on Tylox and I told my doctor to back me down to the lowest pain meds over the next two weeks after surgery. I was offered the chance to go to rehab due to my pain pill addiction after surgery and pre surgery. I said no. There is nothing that they can tell me in rehab that I cant do for myself. I got to want this. For 6 months I fought it but never took another pain pill again. That was 20yrs ago. If that was truly what was wrong with her, I feel her pain. It was hard to kick the meds but I jedi mind tricked it and beat it.

Personal pain and struggle is something that is often misunderstood. For many, many years I passed judgement on others for their behavior, crybaby is a word that I used quite often. Fast forward a few years... Now I'm in their shoes and I couldn't possibly feel like a bigger jerk for being so judgmental because of my ignorance. If you know someone that is struggling, be very careful about your approach to "helping" them. When people are in the throws of crippling depression a few poorly chosen words can make them slip even further. The world and the people in it can be very cruel and the only peace that some can find is in substance abuse and the longer it goes unchecked, the worse it gets.
