Bob as the conductor of a game show was second to none. Always topped Forsyth for me because of his sheer delight at being nice to people.

This is why ITC wasn't distributed this show to the US and worldwide, because the US had "Hollywood Squares" with Peter Marshall.

I fondly remember this show from many years back. I know a lot of them are dead now, is Willie Rushton one of them? We only had three main channels (there were and still are regional variations like BBC Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and if memory serves, RTE1 and RTE2). It may have been crap, but that is all we had :) and I liked it.

Always wondered on these old clips: why is it that you can hear the ATV ident very slightly a few seconds before it comes on screen?
@Amnectrus Жыл бұрын
It was recorded on magnetic tape. When it’s stored for years, the recording can “bleed” through slightly to adjacent bits of tape, one rotation around the spool. You can get the same thing on old audio cassettes.
@disneyfan8112 жыл бұрын
@Yorkmackem Yeah, but how would you compare him to Paul Lynde (for those who don't know, he was the predominate center square on "Hollywood Squares")?

Bob Monkhouse was the guvnor! That's a real star. Ironic that most of the people in the boxes are now actually in boxes... According to the late Beryl Reid who used to meet Magnus Pike on these sort of shows, he never waved his arms around at all off camera, the silly old sod.

What region was ATV?
@nowster3 жыл бұрын
At that point, the UK Midlands. However they retained their North London studios from when they previously also had the London region weekday franchise. That studio was capable of NTSC production too, most notably for the Muppet Show. That's why there's a PAL in the programme catalogue number.
