Funny you should say that about exhale, considering the main character of Celeste, Madeline (the girl on the screen) actually does suffer from anxiety and it's a big part of the game's story.

It's a game about climbing a mountain, but also actually about fighting your inner demons, or perhaps more coming to terms with it and accepting yourself. It's a beautiful journey of self-reflection and self-acceptance. Would 100% recommend without hesitation. And the OST is such a big part of making it amazing, because it's actually a quite difficult game but the music helps you keep calm and tempers what might otherwise be a frustrating experience of dying repeatedly (you will have over 1000 deaths by the end, but you generally only lose seconds of progress each time you die) But the difficulty is a necessary part of the journey and part of what makes the ending so satisfying. Because you didn't give up.

Very well said, I think a big part of the game is not giving up. Not just for the player, but for Madeline as well. And the fact that neither the player nor Madeline gave up and made it to the end of the journey makes it feel that much more rewarding at the end.

One of the neat things about the Celeste sountrack is that different characters are represented with different instruments! Madeline, the main character, is represented by piano, Badeline (the physical manifestation of Madeline's depression and anxiety) is represented by theremin, Theo gets acoustic guitar, and Granny gets violin.

Exhaling is something we do all the time, but it's almost never something we think about. But sometimes, like you mentioned we could really use a reminder to breath out. I think that word feels that way to a lot of people, even if it's not your breath sometimes it takes a while to realize you've been holding something in and you need to let it go.

I'm not going to say it's a mustplay, because to each their own. However it's a game I will recommand pretty much anyone when asked for a game without direction to the preferences^-^

bit of context on Resurrections, it is the main theme of act 2, with each change being triggered by player progression. the song following it, Awake, is a slowed version of the main theme of Resurrections with piano as the main instrument. Also a note on Starjump, it's a continuation (of sorts) of Madeline and Theo, the latter seamlessly blends into the former.

For more Celeste, I'd recommend the Celeste: Farewell album, which is for an extra story chapter added in an update, as well as the Celeste: B-Sides album, which has remixes of the main chapter themes by guest composers. Also, personal suggestion: Bayonetta 3 👀

24:55 It is the mix actually, cool that you picked up on that. "Heart of the Mountain" is from a stage with a changing state gimmick, and the track is dynamic to the state of the level. One state has the percussion and faster pace, and the other has the calmer version of the track.

What I love about Heart of the Mountain is that it is a true test of the main character's growth on two fronts; her peace of mind and her determination to keep improving. The entire level shifts between ice and fire, and the level design requires that you control both perfectly in order to conquer each challenge the mountain throws at you. In that way, Heart of the Mountain starts with a calm soothing feel, icy, as if to reflect Madeline's ability to keep her mind calm and chill, but then it reflects her fiery determination to never give up when the bass starts kicking in. Calm and fury, wisdom and strength, ice and fire, both in perfect harmony.

True talented musicians know how to take advantage of percussion and bass to its fullest. Its so rare to find this level of consistency and perfected quality such as Lena Raine displays here. Absolutely remarkable, perfection incarnate. Building layer upon layer never felt this good. HAVE to do the full complete ost to be honest. Its insanely good, absolutely gorgeous. All the levels have remixed versions of the songs as well, that go way harder in rhythm in many cases with even more layers. Beyond intense and hauntingly beautiful tracks. Too many bangers also! You'll probably end up having even more fun doing so, then following any other random suggestion. Few OSTs are really that good, and we must cherish them like no tomorrow.

So basically the entire chapter where resurrections plays is a dream. At the start it's just a spooky but calm dream. The music slows down as the main character, Madeline, finds a mirror, in which she appears as "Part of Me" aka Badeline, basically her intrusive thoughts incarnate, who try to talk her out of her goal of climbing this mountain. The sped up part is where Badeline decides if they can't talk her out of it, they'll just have to use force instead. The super creepy ending is where it gets really, really weird, and then she wakes up in a sweat.

Celeste is my all-time favourite platorming game. It has a perfect difficulty level and it's very challenging which is optional. And the music from Lena Raine is just top tier as well. When people speedran this game live at Awesome Games Done Quick, which is a charity event where all the money goes to Doctor's Without Border, a lot of people who donated money were talking about their anxiety and depression, and how the story in this game were so relateable to them. They said this game really helped them through some rough times because they felt what Madeleine felt throughout the whole game. It's pretty amazing how a game with a relatable story actually heals people. ❤

I just finished my 4th replay of Celeste no way. Also you were spot on with the moments in resurrection. for a little explanation and a few minor spoilers, the chapter resurrection plays through is a dream, there are large blocks that have no real purpose (the beginning) until you find a mirror and a part of you jumps out and runs, the blocks suddenly activate and are the new mechanic you learn (the added percussion) then you find that part of you (the bit you described as lonely) where she introduces herself and tries to convince you to give up. when Madeline refuses, the part of you gives chase (the part where it really picks up) after escaping you find a ringing telephone box and answer it, the conversation ends with the realization that this is dream, then the part of you appears and wakes you up in a very mean way (the final 20 seconds)

As beautiful as the music is on it’s own, the songs are IMPECCABLE while playing the game. The beat changes in the songs (like in Resurrection) happen during key moments in the levels of the game; which brings about a wonderful synergy. The beat changes amplify the action in the game, and the events of the game help the songs hit so much harder.

cool video! just gonna leave notes of where every song in this video is played first steps: obviously, the 'first steps' of the game. this is level 1, nothing _too_ interesting here, however it is cool to note all main characters have their own instrument that marks when they enter. Madeline has the piano, so that is why it is constant throughout the song ressurections: this song is the second level. funny you mention it sounds like you can fall asleep, because madeline _is_ asleep for almost the entirity of the level. also when you mention that it went from calm to spooky, this tracks the storyline of the game, where the antagonist, gothaline--the community typically calls her badeline, but i prefer the former since badeline isn't ill-intented-- a doppelganger/'part of you' as the game puts it, shows up on the other side of a mirror, but soon disappears. you can note this by the introduction of the synth, gothaline's instrument. after the brief calm, gothaline shows up again, telling you to stop climbing the mountain, quote: "you *aren't* a mountain climber." i love how the synth seems repeating, just like how gothaline's chase mechanic functions, which is similar to shadow mario, a character that follows the exact imputs that you do (and theres multiple gothalines- five in the end lol). the song finally calms down once you have ran enough away from her. and then that low buzz starts. remember how i said this is a dream? it's a nightmare. you get eaten by a random monster that never shows up again 👍 WOW THIS IS QUITE THE *j u m p* (do ya get it? haha? yeah you can sack of rice me to the rice god) star jump: this theme starts as the 6th level. again, another dream, a break right before she reaches the summit, but this one has consequences. back at the very end of level 4, a gondala ride stops working and madeline has a panic attack. her new friend, theo, helps her through by with a breathing exersize, keep the feather floating with your breaths. in the 6th level, feathers become a game mechanic that allow you to move in all 8 directions for 5~ seconds (could be off i never counted it lol) this song is the introduction to the feather mechanic! and thats why i love the panning detail... but here comes the synth, here comes gothaline... madeline basically says 'hey guess what! i don't need you, all you do is stop me, and you think the same thing about me. lets just split apart!' but in a very rude way lol, gothaline becomes pissed and essentialy says 'nuh uh' then kicks madeline alllll the way down the mountain, past where she started, lower than that. before she gets dropkicked off the mountain she does have a panic attack, and tries to breath using the feather idea, but gothaline shuts her down saying a line ive always loved: "you think a FEATHER can stop me?" you gotta see the entire scene of starjump, it's great. exhale: the theme after summit- the epilogue/credits theme. i love your description of this word, ive always seen it similarly- an exhale after a really hard section, after a stressful buildup. i remember summit. i remember my hands being so sweaty and it was 11 pm and i was playing infront of my siblings when we *really* should be in bed. i remember the jump button sticking to the controller making it even harder to play, but i wasn't going to give up. i remember the summit flags going from 30, to 20, to 10, 8, 5, 3, 2, 1... peace. *exhale* it is such a perfect song for an ending like this. heart of the mountain: yeah so about that ending... not quite lol you have reached the summit, but after collecting the heart in each level (actually i believe you only need four, but for storytelling's sake im keeping it) you can finally reach into the heart of the mountain, inside. the mountain is slightly strange, but nothing too different. the game mainly focuses on introducing you to one of the main mechanics, you can't regain a dash after touching the ground (which makes you _way_ more conservative with your dashes. then the song gets a bit bigger, wandering. it introduces a fire mechanic. but the fire cools off, and introduces its other extreme: ice. leading us to my favorite comment on this song 'is this a fire or a ice level'

Fun fact: every single "screen" you are on in Celeste has a different mix of the same song. This applies to all of the main story levels in the game I believe.

I burned this soundtrack to a CD a few years ago and my (now) 10-year-old daughter uses it as a lullaby.

Very good game with an excellent soundtrack. Can recommend giving it a play if you don’t mind a bit of challenging platforming :)

Another game, in my opinion second only to halo, is the soundtrack of Ace Combat. Ace Combat 04 to be specific. And if you start with that, My three recommended tracks are Sitting Duck, Invincible Fleet, and Megalith. 10/10 Recommend.

Please do more celeste, as well as the farewell dlc. There are so many more good tracks For the base game I specifically want to recommend: scattered and lost, confronting myself, and reach for the summit. For the dlc.... I can't give recommendations they're all so good

I would LOVE if you checked out the Doom Eternal OST. You've mentioned stuff like loving hard rock and metal before, so that OST won't disappoint lol😂❤️

It seems like aside from Resurrection you missed the more exciting tracks. My two favorites are Confronting Myself and Reach for the Summit.
