I got it right because I always hear a “sizzle” in most Greenback style speakers which this creamback has.

Every time I watch a speaker comparison, it makes me realize how vastly situational each sound is best for. In this demo, I thought the V30 actually sounded better but in reality, I lean toward Greenbacks all day. I have mixed and played around with so many speakers. I find the only way to know what is going to work for your sound is to play through them! Zilla - thanks for these! They seriously are some of the most enjoyable comparisons on KZbin. Joss Allen, David P, John Cordy, Tom Quayle, Jeeeeeez! Lots of talent there.

I must say, my V30 recorded well but i couldn't stand it in person, so I sold it. I replaced it with a M65 Cream and enjoy it live. In this video the V30 recorded so much better and matched my experience with it.

An open or semi-open cab makes the V30 a bit more mellow and seemingly a bit "quieter", which is convenient if you combine the two. I have a semi-open cab with with a well broken- in Mesa V30 (8ohm) and Creamback 65 (8ohm) wired for 16ohm imp. It's an outstanding combination, works killer with a JTM45 and similar amps. :) Great video!

We haven't, we probably should do but from experience there are a lot of internet "experts" when it comes to ported cabs and they take a lot of the fun out of this, so we tend to avoid topics where they come out... and ported cabs is one of them.

If there's a better pairing of guitar speakers out there, I've not found it. Pretty much covers everything, if you mix the 2 together. Crispy highs and deep lows from the V30. With warm fat mids, filling in the rest from the Creamback. Simple and effective. Every situation will call for different blends of the two in volume. If you can dial them separately in a 212. It's almost unlimited what you can tweak out of the pairing.

I've been watching speaker demos for years, and I started my own collection afterwards. Sometimes the demos don't match what I perceive when I test a speaker myself. A few months ago I started a hypothesis that how a speaker sounds varies a lot on the player, so I'm increasingly confused by tests of a same device not getting the same results. I personally like how the V30 sounds, but I find it incredibly demanding to be played. While G12 M speakers are so easy to get them moving, therefore they sound better in my hands. Perhaps it could be worth it that you test a speaker by both hard and soft pickers, to give it a better picture (it could help potential customers).

Speakers are very dynamic and how they behave depends a lot on the situation. It also depends where you are when you are listening to the speakers that you are playing against sitting and listening to them on monitors. Thanks again for watching, I'm glad you find them useful.

Celestion are notorious for loose specs, especially V30's. I find them very inconsistent from one driver to the next.
@riangarianga
@riangarianga 5 ай бұрын
@@vorpalblades Yeah, I share that perception. In a way it's the nature of the beast, speakers with paper cones have loose tolerances. However, I have two different collections of Greenbacks where speakers are from the same batch: a collection of 4 Heritage series speakers (MIE), and another of 3 Classic series speakers (MIC). By coincidence they're all manufactured in 2009. They all sound great (bearing in mind that Classic or Heritage target a different sound profile), and inconsistencies between units inside each collection are just so minor. There are lots of inconsistencies comparing to other Classic series Greenbacks from different years, though. That's why I think people feel the EVH and the G12M Greenback Heritage are different speakers, while both catalogue data and people involved in the original EVH deal state otherwise. I wouldn't dare to say so knowing what I know now, I wouldn't feel comfortable comparing Heritage/EVH speakers, unless both units came from the same batch. Regardless, this stuff can be too nerdy, I still enjoy it but I wish I had focused more on my playing. 😂

Hey Paul! I recently bought an empty fatboy and I'm still deciding which speakers to put in it. I definitely wanna go for a mix of two different speakers. Would you say a V30 goes well together with the new neo creamback?
@ZillaCabs
@ZillaCabs 5 ай бұрын
Hi. The neo cream sounds ace with the V30, it's one of my favourite mixes. It's not quite as dark as the M cream. There is a slight volume drop but i wouldn't let that bother you too much... they'll sound good in the FB too.

If there were a spectrum of three, the M Cream and H Cream would be on opposite sides, with the V30 in the middle. The V30 is a great compromise for a 1x12 combo when you can't mix to get the best of both worlds.
@ZillaCabs
@ZillaCabs 5 ай бұрын
I think they all work well in a 1x12 depending on what you are doing but I can see why you'd prefer the V30 for sure. Speakers are so subjective and that's what makes them fun. Thanks for watching.

I’m always confused in these comparisons that ohms are called out as one of the first items as it makes a huge difference. These two sounding anywhere in the same neighborhood has me thinking you’re comparing the 16ohm creamback with the 8ohm v30. Or, there’s gotta be a very different mic approach between the two, right? The 16ohm v30 is generally (unless you’ve got an unusually nice specimen) extremely bright. The 8 ohm versions are much tamer and add a bit of 500hz honk. That honk can get to be a bit much with cream and greenbacks, and the treble is more tame on the 8ohm versions. Going to 16ohm versions of the creambacks seems to bring that balance back where it should be for me. What do you think?
@ZillaCabs
@ZillaCabs 5 ай бұрын
That wouldn't be very thorough if we were mismatching impedance and moving the mic. The recordings come from various r+d projects we do, those two are about the most basic constants you would want. I obviously don't stress enough the rigor in our r+d. I would have to be one of the biggest frauds in music if I were dumb enough to do either of those. There must be a pretty low standard on KZbin.

Noyce. Btw are you gonna include V-types in these shootouts, just curious. I've always been of the opinion the V-type is so similar to the M creamback that it sounds like the same speaker with a modified surround or paper or something just to give the cone a high mids spike. But after this video it feels like the V types are more like a cross between these two speakers.
@ZillaCabs

Thanks mate. This short series was just four videos, which I think we've put up now, but we were just talking about doing another run. I've not been a huge fan of the V type but there is a lot of love for it out there so I do want to do some videos on it, as much for my sake as anyone else's. Thanks for watching mate.

When thewy started playing first notes I knew combination will sound cool although my preferred combination is Cream H and Cream M. This combination is good but it is bit more wild and less refined. Cream M can do nice clean in combination with some amplifiers but it lacks the top end and sensitivity to be used with small amplifiers and get proper sound levels. So it needs a few more watts and very nice amplifier that can play nice top end. On it's own I can't recommend it to everyone directly. While in combination with other speakers it is very very good speaker. It is also a good option for 4x12 in combination with Marshall amps that have a bit nasty bright cap. Then it can deliver what they claim that it should do. On it's own, as they say it should be my preferred ceramic speaker from Celestion. But it is not :( Creamback H is so much more versatile and sound better to me overall. And regarding medium magnets Celestion the Hempback just blasts it out of the water. Way more rounded. 99dB/watt/m sensitivity. It can play good with small amplifiers. It has more refined sound and has more top and bottom while retaining the Celestion middle. Still Creamback M and H together are more than just parts that they are made from. Something magical happens. That happens with the proper cabinet that is. Another good combination would be Hempback and Creamback. Though again bit different than H and M together. V30 is just out for me. Sure for some music styles and some amplifiers it fits the bill but it ain't my cup of tea for sure.

My first tube/valve amp was a Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister 36 Combo that i bought from Anderton's at a great price due to the end of the production of that amp. It came loaded with a Celestion V30 and i really disliked the sound of the amp. I tried to sell it while investigating about valves, and pedals to have a better sound. Then i discovered Zilla cabs channel and they "convinced me" that i needed a Creamback. Now i love my amp Crunch and Lead channels. The Clean channel always sounded very sterile to me, not good for pedals, but better after the change. I love Creambacks and Greenbacks (i have a 1x12 cab with a Greenback too). V30 are really good too, specially to put water inside for your dogs...
