I'm playing a Marshall 50W Plexi reissue through 2 Celestion Marshall Vintage speakers (V30) from March 1986! This is as far as have been able to tell the earliest Vintage 30s I have seen. The sound completely unreal! Like a a G12H greenback but with the dynamics of a V30. I'm using 2008 Gibson Les Paul R9.

This is why the metal in the 80s sounded so good. I've tried to get these tones many times with modern vintage 30s and they just don't sound the same.

I had an original 1987 Marshall Silver Jubilee full stack back in 2005, with V30 loaded cabs, and I swear they sounded very different to any V30s I've played since. I put it down to cone age, but perhaps they were just better. More Gnarly, mid-range grind and without that high end fizz that gets on your nerves with the V30s people use today.

Hello Johan , I know that the Silver Jubilee was made around this speaker and that you had to pay extra in 1987 to have a cab loaded with those here in Montreal only on order . The stores here ordered the half or full stacks with G12T-75' s or G12-70 's so they would sell more with the lower price but nobody knew at the time. Tthe Jubilee head was voiced around the G12 Vintage speakers and even today , it's not a known fact but they were meant to go together.

I have it ordered as well (1 month waiting for stock) and the ps100 is in stock and was thinking what if, Do you think/know if the ps100 is worth it over the ps2a ? From my research, the differences would be, more watts which i wont use, the extra channel which u cant use 2 amp at the same time anyway from my understanding so not very useful for me, and it also doesnt have 6l6s. So im thinking that the ps2a is actually the one for me. Any guidance please sir? always love your videos !!!

I have a bunch of old speakers, they are awesome. But there is a problem comparing a 40 year old speaker with a newer one. 40 years of aging affects the spider, suspension, surround, cone, doping, glue… pretty much everything. There is no way this sounds like a new speaker, because it doesn’t even sound like itself from 40 years ago

@NINEWALKING Ай бұрын
There are few versions of V30. Some of them aren’t my cup of tea. Early once and Mesa Bogie once are more similar to old speakers. Even today they make two versions. One for amplifier building companies and those are made in UK. The other once are made in China. China speakers, especially the 16 Ohm version, are more scooped and have more top end. Some people like them more for very high gain modern applications. Once made for Mesa Bogie have more middle tones and sound better for the classic rock and early metal. Best of them are first year models. One thing has to be said. V30 speakers might not have as complex sound as some speakers but they are meant for the professional use. At lover level they do not compress at all and might sound to bright. Especially in the isolation at the lower levels with a Marshall amplifiers they might sound shrill. But once you get the full blast sound on the stage in the band environment you will get it. They will cut true the mix and with the volume they will compress and become smoother. Marshall amps at full blast introduce compression at all stages of the amplifier and then they sound better as well. So professional stuff. You will be heard. They are not boutique stuff. There are better speakers for that application. But for stadium gigs V30 simply work. Same rig at lower volume might be just shrill and way to bright. Though once everything is at 11 you will get it. V30 can do one more thing as well. Totally opposite to above mentioned application. If you have muddy cheap amplifier V30 will bring it to life. Even at low volume such amplifier will sound better. Connect it to boutique amplifier and your ears might bleed from the top end before the compression kicks in. So for every amplifier it’s crucial to find speaker that makes it work for you.
