That thing sure does sound nice. Good job on the pickups. I also like the different design elements that pays homage to other storied brands: Fender T-style body with a Gibson-like mahogany back and Fender-like alder top, a Gibson-like carved top and goldtop finish, Martin-like herringbone binding, Aria Pro-like bridge, 70s Japanese-like block fretboard inlays, Harmony-like headstock, etc. Most makers who try to mix that many different design elements into their design usually wind up making it look like a hodgepodge of nonsense, but everything about this guitar blends well and is very tastefully done. 👍

It is really good that such exclusive hand crafted guitars exist. Such shows the little people how well something can be made. Let the wealthy enjoy such instruments. I doubt that the owner of that Marianna will enjoy playing it more than I enjoy playing my Donner. Two days ago a Donner Thinline Telecaster style dual humbucker guitar arrived at my house (DJC-1000S). On sale it cost $119.99 plus tax. A flash sale discounted it $50 and couldn't be resisted. A padded gig bag, a strap, and a guitar cable came with it. The intonation needs to be set and I would like to cut the nut slots a tiny bit deeper. The finish was nearly perfect. It is the first really thick neck guitar I've owned and it is my new favorite. It has good sustain. _THIS_ is a player's guitar. The Castedosa Marianna would cost $9350.27 converted from 7332.50 pounds without the VAT. I could buy 77.92 Donner guitars on sale or 55 not on sale for that much money.

I have to say, I never quite understood the idea of "relicced" lawyer trophy guitars. It's almost like you bought custom shop Maseratti and they dinged and chipped it before leaving workshop, added a few scratches around door handles and a bit of rust to chrome grilles just so it doesn't look new. Wtf did that idea come from?
@j.r.g35486 ай бұрын
It's because these guitars are finished with incredibly thin nitrocellulose lacquers that are prone to doing this and will do this regardless of how the guitar left the factory. Why would someone creating a beautiful, handmade guitar leave those first handful of finish checks, bumps and bruises to chance (could happen in shipping to the shop or when the first owner knocks it against the case opening it for the first time) when they can get the aging process started in a way that looks cohesive? Kills two birds with one stone. I understand your sentiment, and used to think this way also, but it's a far cry from buying a maserati with a rusted bumper. If in the car world a rusty bumper on an old classic was viewed as "well loved, and well driven" and not an eye sore, then it'd be a closer comparison.
@jimmyjimmy9516 ай бұрын
It’s simple. Quality control is hard from factory / workshop and hard to warranty a nitro finish in unpredictable climates, so some genius decided to market flawed products as intentional design features. Now the world is full of guitars that look played but have never left the case..😂🇦🇺

No guitar is worth £9,000 - (in my humble opinion), and PRS must be laughing all the way to the bank about his £5,000 plus priced guitars that only cost a fraction of that to make. I can appreciate that the Castedosa guitars are made primarily by one guy with probably a small staff of helpers, but that's his own choice and he'll probably last a couple of years at best before he has to start producing cheaper more realistically priced guitars to stay in business. Pete's gem of wisdom - "these guitars are meant to be played" is probably what most guitarists think about the guitars they shell out their hard earned money for - (no disrespect intended Pete, I enjoy watching your playing and demo's) - but we're not all in a financial position to part with £9,000 for a guitar just because it's meant to be played. Surely they're all meant to be played.
@FrankFerret6 ай бұрын
So, while I agree with you and never myself spend more than 800 USD on a guitar, I understand what the market for these things is. There are people, doctors, lawyers etc. who go for things like this, specifically at this kind of price point, because they want to be able to show it off. All guitars might be meant to be played, but some are mostly built to show off and they'll get played occasionally. They're more "art piece guitars". I never understood this concept until I worked in retail for collectible card games like Magic: The Gathering. Whether we like it or not, it's a significant enough portion of the industry that if you don't feed into it at all, you are just actively losing money.
