As much as I love the Jay Haide The volume and projection from the Bernd Dimbath is definitely noticeable. The Jay Haide Euro is magnificent for the price and hard to get better value for $$. If price isn't an exception then go the Bernd Dimbath. I have versum strings on my Jay Haide Euro and love it. Sure you'll love whichever one you choose!

thanks for making these videos.. i used to play the cello in school and also used to visit friends along whitehorse rd.. i get a slightly nostalgic vibe just from the existence of this channel

Good instruments, I've no doubt, but they both sound very bright and rather hollow, as though the strings have just been put on and haven't been fully played in. Of course the sound quality on You Tube isn't the best, I conceded

Where did you find this cello to stock? My cello teacher had one and I loved it and have been looking for one but it isn't anywhere. Thanks

I bought the bernd dimbath from the maker himself . The jay haide euro was from our local supplier. I love both :)

LOL!! The Dimbath doesn't sound to my ears $25k more :) They're just "different". Add I think the shape is different. And I DO think the JH competes...heh...If you took 5 people and didn't tell them which brand they were listening to..they just might prefer the JH because it's based on a Strad....

They both are based on strad patterns. The jay haide are more of a student level instrument for someone who wants a step up from the strung series he offers. But the Dimbath cello is another stratosphere away it’s able to really play repertoire and encases an essence of euphoria the jay haide could never achieve.

@@richard_4675 What makes the German cello able to do that in your opinion? I"m guessing you've played both. Is it something in the build? what makes the JH a "student cello"? An expensive one $10k (I have seen them for less). I used to play the cello when I was a kid. Came across some cello videos on KZbin. Was shocked to see the prices asked for some made by luthiers vs a more mass produced brand like JH or Eastman Strings. Like luthiers such as Ken Sullivan and Edgar Russ (Cremona, Italy), B. Dimbath (one man operation)..JH are still "workshops, hand-made..." I'd still love to know what makes one worth 3x more? I haven't heard any luthier talk about this. They seem to dance around this question. No one's answered it or done a KZbin video on this. With other musical instruments the differences are more obvious in the engineering and materials used (e.g. acoustic guitars, acoustic pianos...etc.)..

@@AGC828 A professional instrument "projects" better, which is something you can't typically tell from a video. They're intended to be played in concert halls and have the softest pianissimo audible to the back rows.
