I like the Soliste! Do you mind telling me, what bow and strings were used?

Prefered the Soliste when playing the Prelude, more beautiful sound.

Heinrich Gil was clearly more interesting with the resonance and ring. The upper strings sound more clear and more pronounced......angelic.. ..the Soloist sounded like a scruffy old grandfather trying to whisper

I would comfortably say that the Jay Haide co. make great cellos (out of all the instruments they make). I love their Montagnana model the best. And of course: the older the better! A 2008 vs. a 2019 is a big difference, even if both new and not played much! My friend considered buying one but they are still very highly priced for what they are.... A $10k cello by Haide should be going for $8k ... RRP! Of course they have to make a profit, as do the stores... but.... more than $8k is a deal breaker. Some wonderful German models go for $5k and sound almost as good. When I say "almost" it doesn't mean that it sounds many thousands of dollars better. It's very close in quality but still amazing for the price! Hoffner for example.

My favourite thing about Jay Haide instruments: the varnish is about 2mm thick. I'm exaggerating... but *ever so* slightly.... really. If you scraped off the varnish you could comfortably bring a 5mm plate down to a 3mm to 2.75mm plate...

That's the grift in the system , the original is never manufactured to the correct specs ( a lie in many cases)

Hi Richard, nice video. What strings did you use on them? I remember you mentioned larsen and something else but can't seem to find it anymore in the video where you speak about the setup

Sorry i missed your comment for so long david. The strings are spirocore tungsten on the C and G and larsen solo on the A and D :)
