Hello, Jo. The areas of “function and form” have always been a mystery to me and when I took my CELTA back in 2013, I failed my language analysis. With your videos, I know I have a stronger chance of passing this second time around. Please keep the videos coming and thanks again.

FL "is about what the language does". I've been teaching for years but I've never thought that it could be easy to describe Functional Language so precisely. Thank you so much, Jo! You're an excellent teacher trainer!))

By 'meaning', in this case, I think 'intent' would be more precise a word.

Ma’am, I discovered your channel this past July when I was taking the CELTA course. Ever since, I’m a regular visitor. Thank you for sharing the knowledge.

Same here. I started my course in the month of July and completed in September. I have been hunting for teaching jobs in my country and abroad since then. The market is not favorable at the moment.

Would you generally teach one function per context or a range of functions appropriate to a context?
@elttraining6 ай бұрын
Usually people teach some different exponents with the same function in the same context- does that make sense?

Hi Jo, I found your channel while I was doing me CELTA - I was looking for videos on how to teach functional language and watching this video was so much easier than it is in any books. I've already subscribed to your channel, and I think I'll be learning a lot more, and I'll be a regular visitor. Thank you for being so kind to share your vast experience with so many of us xxx.

Do the phrases that are typically used for odering a meal or giving directions fit the category of functional language? Or they are more of colloquial language?
@elttraining Жыл бұрын
Yes- I'd call this functional language. Colloquial language usually means informal use and functional language can be formal or informal. For example, 'How do you do?' is very formal but it's a functional exponent of introduction
