This was Canada's unofficial anthem for 100 years. It is often played in old movies set in Canada and was the music played when the RCMP in the Coronation Parade rode by the palace. The punch line, "The Maple Leaf Forever", says "Canada" better than anything else ever could.

If weren’t for Quebec it would still be are national anthem
@Mrskateboardboy3 жыл бұрын
@PatchesRips That's not my understanding of its origins. It was written by a Canadian born citizen. It talks about Wolfe's victory in the first verse, and about the War of 1812 in the second. The British elements in Canada at the time had their emblems and tunes and the native born subjects nothing around which to rally. Hence "The Maple Leaf Forever." The words have been changed over the years and the reference to 1812 is usually dropped altogether. At the time, the residents of Canada, Quebec excluded, saw themselves as loyal British subjects and an integral and important part of the Empire. The UK gave us the pillars on which we built our society and on whom we depended for protection from the mighty USA. They were our protectors and deserved our respect.

God save our Queen and Heaven bless The Maple Leaf forever! At Queenston Heights and Lundy's Lane, Our brave fathers, side by side, For freedom, homes and loved ones dear, Firmly stood and nobly died; And those dear rights which they maintained, We swear to yield them never! Key words are the, "If *they* got a problem with god saving the queen *they* can hang smh." *They* as in *they* not speicfically *you.* I said, "you lost" in context to the French in my first sarcastic statement, you imbecile.

I wish the French and English sides of Canada would get along. We are all truly Canadian deep down, that is why we must stop the fighting, the socialists don't understand our pain and struggle, they do what they think is right. But they are slowly dividing Canada each day, that is why we must stop them and the immigrants from taking our names, taking our pride, calling themselves Canadian. We must stand up for what is wrong, and fight the left. They cant get rid of us, for when there is darkness, there is a torch, if one who carries the torch dies, it is in your honour to carry it for the rest of us, together we won't lose our way through these harsh times, we will succeed, we will hang Justin Trudeau for treason against the empire, country and our Queen.

@NOYDB This should be our national anthem. The tunes and lyrics sound much better than the current one and has more cultural significance. The French? No, those of French origin in Quebec are Canadian, just like the rest of us. We should treat them like Canadians as they have also fought and died for us. We should speak of them as part of us, not further segregate them.

This song truly transfixes my heart. This song, while it may be perceived to be offensive or disrespectful for some, actually represents the backbone of Canada. The original, "British favoured" lyrics tell of the nation's beautiful past, and a story of hard work and diligence, and not intended to harm others. Think of the Loyalists, who fought and died for King and Country, or the soldiers at Vimy Ridge. It means more to them than what anyone else could make of it. God save the Queen!

Rigdoo, you nailed it. This medley of tunes and related medleys are typically played by Pipes, Drums and Military band for a bit of patriotic remembrance, or commonly to show respect and affection for sister and brother Soldiers at weddings and funerals. They are the fine tunes that played our soldiers Over the Top in WWs 1 & 2. To March the survivors to Rest Billets after Battle was another set of Soulful tunes. Our Celtic roots showing through. The Pipers were the Stretcher Bearers and Medics. The medley played here was arranged and adapted by Majors Donald Keeling (48 HIGHRS) and Gino A. Falconi (Royal Regiment of Canada), and Pipe Major Ross Stewart and Piper (and Trauma Surgeon) Tom McKean. They did medleys of The Maple Leaf Forever with Alberta Bound, and with Vive la Canadienne (the original National Anthem of French Canada) and with Hava Nagila, and with other tunes. Always played with profound respect and affection, often at the request of the Family. Moe Kaufman did some of his finest wailing Sax work on these. Oh, for sure, there is no memorable Military Tune without competing sets of rude if not abusive lyrics. "Oh it's a Lovely War", the movie, has more than a dozen of the rude versions of great tunes in its soundtrack. Soldiers laugh to keep the tears away. Our grandfathers and fathers liberated the Camps, and the Pipers played these tunes in the newly liberated Netherlands villages and towns to cheer the children in particular while our troops went hungry to feed the starving.

@canadianreserve It was written in 1867 as a national song and was used as a national anthem. It became used in the military much later. The song talks about moments in Canada's history. The capturing of Quebec and something that should be remembered since its the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812. The war made sure Canada would exist and remain in British North America. At the time it was written Canada again was facing skirmishes with Fenian Americans along its borders.
