Celtic Music - Tale of the Gaels

I read years ago that Ireland was once almost fully covered by an ancient forest, and that knowledge has stayed in my mind ever since. I think it makes me incredibly sad that this primordial forest is now gone for ever, and none of us knows how the island must have once looked. Anyway, I tried to imagine the Gaels beginning their history in that place, and how it must have shaped their minds and their lives, and this song is the result.
PS: Man this is so embarrassing, but it was bound to happen after composing almost 500 songs through 15 years... guys, this song here is based on the same melody demo from my older song Fairy Tale! I have hundreds of melody demos, and I forgot that I used this one already because I almost never listen to my own music, so I COMPLETELY forgot how Fairy Tale even sounds! Anyway, so the beginning melody of both songs is the exact same thing, they continue into two different songs though with very different topics.

Yes, Scotland is very similar. Almost all of the scots pine trees that would have covered most of the land are now gone. It is very interesting knowing that 10,000 years ago the country would have looked so different.

Greetings from Ireland, dia dhuit. Yes it was mostly covered in forests by all accounts and would have had wolves and even bears. There's plenty of remains of ancient settlements around Ireland and I live close to some not far from a place called Lough Gur which is has plenty of ancient settlements such as a small man made island called a Crannóg where early settlers would live and bring their livestock at night time so everyone was safe from wolves and possible bandits in the surrounding forests. There's also the remains of a bronze age village but most impressively is the large stone circle at Grange which is about 2,200 BC. Of course, such areas are soaked in myths and legends which I really love and I like to stroll through what little woods remain in the area and feel as though I'm walking in the streps my ancient ancestors would have also walked thousands of years ago when the world would have been very different and yet still the same place. There was settlers in Ireland before the Celts and many interesting tales going back many thousand years. It was once called Inis na bhfiodhbhadh which means Island of the woods. To the Celts it was, I think, a sacred place since to them it was the last stop of the world with nothing but ocean beyond, and also called Inis Fáil which means Isle of Destiny. I like that personally, but who knows for sure.

I really like what you wrote about ireland once being an ancient forest. It reminded of in lotr, fangorn forest used to cover all the land to the grey havens. But now its just a fraction of what it used to be
