How many centuries has this been sung to Irelands dieing children... No more... We the Irish 🇮🇪 are not on our knees anymore... Erin go Bragh 💪☘️🇮🇪

@innesmacneilyes but the language and struggle are basically the same. We understand each other

It's a Scottish song about the loss of a child during the potato famine, which also affected the Highlands of Scotland. But the sentiment is without a doubt applicable to the suffering of our Irish kin across the north channel.

This isn't a lullaby. It's a song of a mother mourning the loss of a child.

An example of a perfect match between voice and melody.

Glè àlainn! I notice this song shares lines with the version of Griogal Chridhe that I know. I am so inspired to find these songs connect. What a majestic tapestry of song and story. Mòran taing!

This song is about the murder /execution of young Mac GREGOR, that took place at Taymouth Castle in Perthshire in front of her family and in the company of her baby. At the moment an American Company D.L.C.want to uses this as a gated community for the very rich. it is for the people of Scotland,(our land) A lament!!

Being of Irish Scottish deceit I imagine many a banshee sprite have sang a similar song. I’ve actually been screamed at by two different banshees from afar One actually did it a week before my dad almost died from a falling tree and I yelled at him I was worried about why they came to see me and I was on guard because I know they are morning spirits some vengeful but some come to warn you of danger as a guardian

Such a sad story from history. Put to music in a song, it says that terrorism has been with us for a long time. May all minds be cleansed of such cruelty, and throw away notions of acting on fear and hate.

Those lyrics got dark really quick.

Consider, for example, the first verse of Rockabye Baby, which ends with a baby falling out of a tree. Like the original versions of most fairy tales, there’s a dark undercurrent in a quite a few of the traditional songs we sing to our children. And the urge to soothe babies with creepy songs is apparently found almost everywhere.
@1earflapping2 жыл бұрын
@@CelticSongs Yes, you are right. Although I’d still argue that Baby in his cradle falling from a tree isn’t in the same league of dark as Baby with his head atop a post, near his headless body.
@herahforenden76072 жыл бұрын
I don't think that the song spoke about a baby literally, but about people that was executed and martyred.
