I think Paul's comment works on offensive, but not on defense. Today teams need a rim-protector and that rim-protecting center anchors the defense. The center is not the same as a forward defensively, even if they are expected to guard pick and rolls and do some forward type of stuff.

I really wish I could get in on this convo. I get what they saying, I just disagree lol. "What point guard Average 10assist and win the championship?" Lebron and Jokic just did it. Now they aren't "pg's" but they facilitate and that's what I think the convo is about. Facilitating is still an essential part of basketball. That's what makes Jokic a unicorn, he's a point center lol... So literally, no point guard has done it but Lebron and Jokic are facilitators and just did it

The year they actually WON the championship rondo only averaged 6.6 apg for the whole playoff run and even less in the regular season. 6.7 in the finals. He was only in his second year. When he was averaging more assists, they didn’t win. Paul’s point stands.
@CarlosMuesesEduardo Жыл бұрын
@@L4-295 Gotcha. Good point.
@allensmith9879 Жыл бұрын
@@L4-295True but Prime Rondo is what won them so many games in the regular season & carried them in some of the playoff games as well after the 2008 finals. Most of Rondos highest scoring games were actually in the playoffs 2010 29 against LBJ Cavs 2011 30 vs Knicks 2009 31 vs Nets 44 against 2012 Heat. He was definitely an anomaly but the fact he couldn’t shoot forced him into being an skilled player in all other aspects of the game.

Piggybacking off of Ticket's comments about these passing centers and Truth's comments about not need the point guard to be an big assist guy. Can you imagine a time when centers, not guards. are expected to be the primary set up guy and, therefore, they are the league leaders in assists. It is kind of hard because the ball is in guards' hand so much. But let's break this down. For these teams that are running their offense through a big, the guard brings the ball up the court but in the half court offense, the center is the playmaker. It would be interesting to break assists into transition assists and half court assists. In the future, the former might be a point guard thing and the latter might be a center thing. I could see that happening.
