Absolutely! T2 was the first movie that used 3D rendered graphics for important parts of the plot (one of the main characters and the rendered form was essential for the plot). Cameron's older movie Abyss had the thing rendered with 3D graphics, too, but that wasn't important for the plot, just an implementation detail.

“Hasta la vista, baby” was made popular a little earlier by a song by Jody Watley called “ I am looking for a new love.” That song came out in 1987. She uses the phrase in the song. I remember my friends saying that line for a few years. The movie came out in 1991. 😀

Mini guns are called “mini” because they are smaller versions of the Gatling guns built to be mounted on fighter jets. The full sized version fire bullets so big that you could use the empty shells as a water bottle. They’re generally mounted to vehicles, not handheld, but the Terminator gonna terminate… or not, if ordered not to.

If there is no war John would still be alive because Kyle had already come back from a future, even though it no longer exists. So now Kyle is essentially a time remnant because he was from a future that was erased from this timeline. The future is not written, but the past has already been experienced by Sarah and John so it wouldn't be changed.

@boretrk
@boretrk 4 ай бұрын
@@callmeshaggy5166 I wouldn't think too hard about it. Cameron typically doesn't plan ahead for more movies and he doesn't let consistency stand in the way of making an entertaining sequel. For example this explanation doesn't work because if Kyle already came back from the future that means that the future wasn't altered by the timetravel and there was no reason to send back a terminator to begin with. Only alternate timelines would be altered, not the one that matters to each participant. In T1 you can alter the future but the terminator fails and instead you get a stable timeloop. T2 works because you don't think about it too hard and let yourself be entertained instead.
@Ambaryerno
@Ambaryerno 2 ай бұрын
The problem is that if there's no Skynet, there's no one to send the Terminator back, which means there's no reason for Reese to be sent back and for John to be born. It's called the Grandfather Paradox. The only solution to rewriting the future without invalidating the sequence events that led you to time travel in the first place is if you assume multiple alternate timelines exist, and that you can't change your OWN timeline, but you CAN affect the future of another, parallel timeline. In which case, the future you're attempting to prevent still exists, but you've now created an alternate timeline in which those events don't happen. This is most famously demonstrated in the original Days of Future Past storyline in the X-Men: When Future!Kitty travels back in time to prevent the assassination of Robert Kelly which led to her bad future, SHE DIDN'T CHANGE HER OWN REALITY. When she returned to the present, it was still the dystopian shithole with Mutants on the verge of extinction that it was when she left. However, it DID avert that same bad future from occurring in the main Marvel universe.
@waltersolomon9049

The Terminator and T2 were the Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back for my generation. The Terminator is possibly the greatest "B-movie" ever made. By that i mean, it is the greatest low-budget sci-fi ever produced. Some of the effects stand out like a sore thumb. But The Terminator is still a great inspiration for future filmmakers. Cameron showed us what can be possible on a small budget and its freaking amazing. T2 on the other hand is the greatest action movie ever made. Cameron showed us whats possible once youve established yourself in the industry. And its freaking phenomenal. I mean, Linda Hamilton was so great in T2, she made Sarah Connor one of the greatest, strongest, most iconic female roles ever put on film. Her Sarah Connor is right up there with Cameron's own Ellen Ripley in Aliens and Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With The Wind.

The metal skeleton of Arnold is called a T-800. There are many skin coverings that look like other people, each with a different number. Any Terminator that looks like Arnold is a CSM-101 (Cyberdyne Systems Model-101). A 102 or a 103 would look like a different person.
@nickmitsialis

And, just to be clear: there are thousands of copies of each skin covering as well as probably countless numbers of 'endoskeletons'--though I'm sure Skynet puts more work on THEIR endos (more armor; redundant power systems, and more fine gears and servos to allow them to have facial 'expressions'.)

@@DarkPaladin24 The only difference between a successful soldier and a serial killer is a license to kill. While that statement is a fact, it is not necessarily disrespectful to the soldier. Since he is possibly killing people who are a threat to his people and country. The big debate is whether the people he is killing were in fact a threat or not. The US starts wars in other countries for many reasons. Main reasons are greed, power and dominance. Defending country and people is a miniscule part of it. So miniscule that it is often considered to be only an excuse. Ultimately why Jamie killed people, if he killed people, would depend on what he believed was the reason that required him to kill people. Since wars are business ventures and soldiers are just tools of that business for the politicians, the soldier can't really be blamed since he has no say in which wars he fights, why he fights and where or who he fights. It is simply the darkest form of slavery, given the kind of world we live in. Jamie was a slave with a license to kill, sent to a foreign land for multiple reasons, good and bad, to kill or be killed. He did his best but couldn't live with the consequences. RIP Jamie.

This audio storytelling comes to a head at 26:32 when you hear that sound effect, communicating that the terminator isn't dead. His "heart" is still beating while his backup systems attempt to come online. It's such a dynamic aspect of storytelling by comparing a normal human body's function to that of a humanoid machine. James Cameron wrote & produced a 3rd installment called "Terminator Dark Fate" (2019) which answers all of your questions. Separately the movie studio made 3 additional Terminator movies (Terminator 3, Terminator (4) Salvation, and Terminator (5) Genysis) without any involvement from Cameron. Cameron's "Dark Fate" ignores T3, T4, and T5 completely. They do not exist in Cameron's "Terminator" Trilogy.

I always assumed the model 101 (Schwarzenegger) in this movie was a different unit than the one sent back to kill Sarah. I also assumed they had a dozen or so skins for the 101 so they wouldn't be quickly IDed as Terminators. Remember Kyle's flashback to the underground base where a Terminator managed to get in and attack. He was obviously a different skin from Arnold's.

Speak for yourself. In fact it's implied that the T2 was sent back with its processor set to learn mode from the start so it could more readily adapt. Just like we see Arnie's Terminator become more human over the last half of the film, (thanks to the deleted dip chip reset scene) we see the same evolution with the T-1000. This is one reason why the T-1000 decides to torture Sarah to make her call out to John, rather than just killing and replacing her like it had been from the start: It had actually learned to ENJOY inflicting pain, so was tormenting Sarah just because it could. The finger wave was another example of this, with the T-1000 taunting her.

"If the war never happens, how is John alive?" That's basically what's referred to as a paradox. Though we're not really meant to think too much about it (mostly because the movie doesn't really have a good answer for it), it's a problem that exists in many movies or other works of fiction that depict time travel in such a linear way.
@Danceofmasks

The lore goes like this. In The Terminator (1), the future creates itself. Skynet is created from a CPU it creates. John himself is created from sending Reese back from the future. However, John himself sends back a message for Sarah, that the future is not set. If the future is not set, that means that not only was a Terminator sent back from a future that hasn't yet been determined, it was a future that cannot yet exist since the chip had not been sent back. In conclusion, in Terminator lore, any future, even impossible ones, can send agents back to the past.

@@Danceofmasks Exactly. It's not a paradox, because every potential future is equally real. Changing the future doesn't change the present. The previous future remains part of the past of the current present. It's not a loop, it's a spiral.

When we remember this movie is about time-traveling murder robots, we can let go of the realism for a while. Entropy shows time cannot move backwards anyway. It'd be like a pile of sand building itself into a castle.
@Michael75579
@Michael75579 4 ай бұрын
Terminator 1 can be explained in terms of a loop across a single timeline, but you need multiple timelines to explain Terminator 2. I think of them as a set of parallel train tracks, with a train representing our present travelling along one of them. People's actions switch points and cause the train to head down another track. Even if the train is now heading down a track on which the war doesn't happen, the Terminators etc. don't disappear as they don't come from the future the train is heading into; they're from a different track which is no longer connected to our present.

Near the end of the movie, when the T1000 is flying the helicopter, there's a couple quick scenes where the T1000 has a third arm coming out of his stomach to hold the helicopter joystick and the T1000 is using his normal two hands to reload his gun at the same time.

as far as the terminators looking like arnold. the lore in the arcade game aalien vs predaator aalso done by james cameron confirms the company that became cyberdyne systems made their first prototype cyborgs. they decided it needed to be modeled on the best human specimen they could so they based the design on the only human known to have killed a predator in single combat, Dutch, also played by Arnold in that franchise.

When the T-100 is chasing them in the helicopter down the motorway,you can catch a brief glimpse of him reloading his gun with 2 hands while piloting the heli with a 3rd.Only 2 shots,blink and you'll miss it.Not often a sequel can better the original,but James Cameron has done it before in Aliens.Bit here's the conundrum of these films (as with most time travel paradoxes)-If you destroy the chip,you'll never have the gateway to the tech that led to you being able to create it.Once our Terminator was destroyed in the steel,an entire timeline was erased,and the war never happened,so there were no Terminators,and yet there were.🤪

1. I could absolutely see you thinking about the injuries being portrayed in the bar scene. 2. There are a lot of paradoxes in this movie. Don't worry, there's a third one. 3. A minigun isn't called a minigun because it's small, but because it's firing the 5.56 mm intermediate caliper around instead of larger bullets. It's a derivative of the 20 mm Gatling gun used on most NATO aircraft.

The twist of Arnie being the good guy this time was BRILLIANTLY set up. There are subtle hints leading up to it: Arnie doesn't kill the bikers in the bar. But it LOOKS like the T-1000 doesn't kill the cop. But as personable as he is the T-1000 also seems...slightly off. But they still had it all set up to look like Arnie was going to be the villain again until the moment in the mall that he tells John to get down. Unfortunately, the twist was also spoiled by the trailers. I also love the "Guns In Roses" visual pun when Arnie pulls the shotgun out of the rose box. Robert Patrick was ACTUALLY chasing after that scooter. That's one reason why he got the part was his ability to run so effortlessly. Also, he didn't steal the clothes in the first place, they just make it LOOK like he did as part of the bait-and-switch. Sadly, what Dougie does to Sarah is something that REALLY happens in mental hospitals. When the T-1000 turns into the guard, you're actually seeing twin brothers. One playing the guard, one playing the T-1000. They use the same trick with Linda Hamilton's twin sister Leslie whenever they need two Sarahs on screen (in Sarah's nightmare, the mirror, and in the climax). That was also Patrick chasing the police car, not special effects or a stuntman. It looks like you watched the theatrical cut. There's a director's cut that has several important scenes, like an extension of the garage scene where Sarah resets the Terminator's CPU to learning mode, which is why over the second half of the film he begins to act more human (it also has Sarah nearly destroy the processor instead before John calls her out for not listening to him). Another important one is to show that some combination of being frozen and shattered causes the T-1000 to start malfunctioning, and starts having problems holding its shape. This is how John realizes which Sarah is real and which is the T-1000 in the climax (the T-1000's feet take the shape of the metal platform it's standing on). The minigun Arnold uses is the same prop as "Ol' Painless" from Predator. The depiction of the atomic bomb blast in the movie is VERY accurate. For a moment when she goes for Dyson Sarah nearly becomes a Terminator herself, and REALIZES it. If you pay really close attention to the helicopter scene, the T-1000 gives itself three arms: Two to operate the helicopter itself, and one to fire the gun. EVERYONE cried when the Terminator went into the steel at the end. As far as I'm concerned Judgment Day never happens. There are NO MORE Terminator movies. And many people feel the same way: Terminator was an incredible movie, but Judgment Day was even BETTER.

The mini gun prop used in this movie is also used in Predator (1987) In real life that would be a mounted weapon system serving on the roof of a Humvee or acting as a door gun in a military helicopter. It's not going to be a machine gun that would be carried by a military member as its depicted in either this movie or in predator.

The world super powers last year for the first time ever just competed in the first ever 100% AI naval war game. There was that Drone in Turkey a few years back that went HK and started opening up on everyone in attendance of the test and the 6th generation fighters that will eventually replace aircraft like the F-22 and F-35 are trying to be made unmanned as well.

Just to answer your questions ---- If there's no war, a new timeline is simply established --- a new alternate universe is created in which there is no war in which the machines (AI) took over. It doesn't change the fact that John Connor was already born. It just means that, after the events of this movie, many different possibilities (potential alternate universes) can be created.

Couple facts and tidbits. Robert Patrick outran the bike in the parking garage, so they told him to chill and we gonna need another take of that lol. :) That black truck is the same truck thast you could see as a toy in the first movie when Arnold stops at the house of the first Sarah Connor he kills, he basically stops his front wheel on that toy truck. The T-1000 could replicate the shape of anything not mechanical or chemichal he touches. He was under the floor and that guard basically stepped on his face. They've mentioned in the first movies that dogs can recognize the machines thats why John's dog was going crazy in the background. When they were shooting the highway chase scene at the end James Cameron and someone on set was talking about them doing the helicopter flying under the overpass scene and it will be very tricky to model the helicopter and replicate itws movements to be realistic in CGI. Also it will be hella expensive. The helicopter pilot who was just hanging around nearby went: "well I could just fly under that overpass, its not really an issue for me" :) not sure if you've noticed that but when he was chasing them with the helicopter and shooting at them he had a 3rd hand coming out of his stomach. He needed 2 hands to fly the helicopter ( 1 hand on the cyclic another on the collective), and a third one to shoot. :) I consider this to be one of hte best sequels ever made along with Empire Strikes Back and Aliens. All three of them is a sequel to an extraordinary movie that started a franchinse that is still alive nearly 50 years later.
