If they ever bring this creature back, they could use that idea to make them much more interesting. Imagine if they made it so that every centaur has randomized body parts. They have 7-8 main spots for a limb/head. That simplifies this a lot. Just randomize what limbs go where and add a few different heads. Suddenly a centaur could look like anything, including a 7 dog-headed 1 armed abomination. I am sure this would be glitchy as hell because it is Bethesda, but it is already supposed to look janky and unnatural, so that fits. The evolved version could just have more crazy limbs, like deathclaw arms.

I will never forget the first time I discovered centaurs. I was trying to sneak around the deathclaws at quarry junction and stumbled into the pit at black mountain. I was walking backwards so I could keep an eye out for deathclaws and walked right into one. Turned around to find one right in my face and it scared the living shit out of me.

Well in the new vegas “Monster mod” they add a few new centaur types. One is called “Thing” which is a grayish centaur with no head; just a blob with many arms. I know it’s just a mod but eh, lot of neat creatures that would be cool to canonize. Like the giant spiders. Love encountering them from that mod.

@@caterina2290 If I am being honest, I love the idea of remakes. But I haven't seen any that were done well lately. Look at the mummy movies. The original was a dramatic masterpiece with music by Boris Karloff, then they made a fun remake with almost no connection to the original that everyone loved... Then they tried to remake it again and failed horribly because the main actor rewrote the entire movie to be about him instead of the mummy.

I remember the first time I encountered one, a pity because I was just a kid about 12-13 years old. I was scared of ghouls and couldn't go into metro to travel to DC and advance in the storyline so I decided to go around DC ruins trying to find a path when I stumbled upon some kind of supermutant camp (those with twisted metal spikes, fires, gore bags...). Quickly entered VATS and upon inspecting the targets boom, a gross disgusting looking creature named Centaur. I was horrified and quickly paused the game, turned the pc screen and switched it off. Years passed since I had the guts to face them

I remember the first time I found a centaur, it was in Fallout 3, I was wandering DC and saw a small band of super mutants in the distance. No problem, take them out real quick and see this crawling thing not too far away. Used VATS to see what it was and was horrified at what I saw, the first detail I noticed was it’s sunken, almost sad looking face. That and the tentacles or tongues were enough for me to pull out a flamer while trying to maintain a distance, as even then I felt I would be tainted if I let it touch me, like a poison. Anyways it shot some gross stuff at me but I killed it, after which I inspected the thing I had slew, but as it was rather repulsive I returned to following the river to wherever I was going.

It would've been interesting if there was a neutral super mutant somewhere in the world of a fallout game that may mention a pet. You go down into a basement or something and there's bags of meat and a centaur locked up - the super mutant's pet. Thank god they can't be intelligent though. I always assumed they had enhanced taste and smell with their large trident tongue they wave around in the air, maybe they could even sense heat signatures the way snakes do with their tongues. Add feeling ground vibrations on top of that and I start to think "does this thing even need eyes?" I wish we got more creatures like the centaurs in newer games. Bloatflies, mirelurks, even deathclaws are all mutations of creatures already existing, we can wrap our heads around that. But centaurs are extremely mutated, almost beyond recognition as having once been human. I remember the first time I watched the Fallout 3 trailer and saw a centaur in it. They almost seemed right out of horror series.

My theory on evolved centaurs is this. They used to have two heads but the dog head got shot off, the human side finally bit the head off, or radiation made it rot off. Either way now without a second brain who was loyal to the letter in the way the humanity inside took one look and saw what they were. They then hid in massively irradiated areas possibly killing their super mutant masters to get a sort of dominance against the other centaurs. Just to be left alone trying to not be seen since even though they are abominations preservation is still ingrained in their psyche

My favorite design is the one with two heads. The human half looks like a head and torso without limbs, and the way it’s bent and kinda flails around is super unsettling. Top-tier body horror imo

420 moment but I wonder if their tongues developed to "taste" the environment. Like how a rabbits ears have evolved to give exceptional hearing, a centaurs tongue has enlarged to detect particles in the air being expelled by potential prey.

I have a theory about the Fallout 3 centaurs. The Super Mutants that were trying to recreate more of their species were running out of FEV and were still increasingly gaining captives for rebirthing. In order to attempt to combat this issue, they began throwing multiple people into Vats at the same time to attempt Mass mutation, saving on resources, not realizing that they have found the recipe for Centaurs.

I remember how shocked I was when I first saw centaurs in New Vegas after only being familiar with 4 enemies. I also had never encountered a sane ghoul in 4 at that point so was really horrified that some of them were sentient and friendly and not an abomination to put out of its misery.

I wonder what would happen if you mixed a Centaur and a super mutant together in f.e.v. Like a large two legged centaur with multiple arms tongues everywhere and runs at you. It would be interesting variant of a super mutant

I always wanted more in game interactions with centaurs, like what is their intelligence, can they be tamed to work with humans, are they as smart as a dog, etc. I always thought they would be cool as a follower like Rex or ED-E

I always wished they included Centaurs in F4 and on. I prefer them as a companion to the Super Mutants, rather than the mutant hounds. I hope they make a return!

I love that the first clip you used was of that one centaur near the Anchorage Memorial. That was my first encounter with one of them.
