I grew up and lived in Houston my whole life. Power resiliency was never an issue until the last 15 years or so. The deregulation and privatization destroyed resiliency. Abolish center point. Public-owned cooperative now. Many other Texas energy markets have co-ops. Leaving the largest market in the state to be increasingly mismanaged by this company is an embarrassment. The Yucatan got hit by Beryl when it was a cat 5 and they had power restored in 36 hours.

Tree trimming services are not allowed by law to trim vegetation within 10 feet of a power line. In these case CenterPoint must be contacted to do the trimming, by law. All you have to do is to call and make the request to CenterPoint and explain you are having a tree service trim your trees.

Sad because I was born and raised in Houston and love it here but times are too hard to keep purchasing groceries and putting my family at risk. Yes I know that I will experience difficulties everywhere you live but at this point I’m picking my demons and I’m choosing not to deal with the humidity here with no AC because the grid goes down anytime someone spits out here. What is sad is they won’t take it seriously enough until people start leaving. 😢

Tree-trimming spending per customer is not a valid metric because the CenterPoint service area is more population dense than the service area of other power companies. Do you people in the media have *any* critical thinking skills??? The people who complained that they had asked CenterPoint to trim the trees - were the trees on those people's property? Sounds like they might just have wanted to get someone else to pay for having their trees trimmed and CenterPoint seemed like a good patsy. This looks like another exercise in blaming CenterPoint when just a couple of minutes of honest thought makes clear that the issue might not be so simple. But we can't have honest thought when ratings and clicks are at stake - let's just keep piling on CenterPoint about things we are completely ignorant of.

Insane isn't it? These people lost me at the unrealistic expectations for restorations. I respect Greg for bringing up the actual problem being trees and not just crapping on CP without any real solutions. However I still think it is unfair and perhaps an overreach of the government to force a company to maintain both public easements and private property at their own expense and private property is not always accessible. Vegetation management should be subsidized by tax dollars if it should be required by the state to do so. Therefore CP can be Obligated to the management of the growth around their power lines as well as manage complaints of infrastructure damage on private property in a timely manner.
