I am 37, and had decompression surgery for chiari malformation 17 years ago. My case was unique not only because of my young age, but because of how advanced it was. I was severely disabled and had not just one but three substantial cyrnixes already fully formed. No one knows why my condition was so poor, but several neurologists have guessed that it could be from cramped conditions in my mother's uterus while i was developing. I'm a twin, and my mother is very petite. Since my surgery, I've had no resolution of symptoms at all. I've only gotten worse, although the progression was slowed significantly by the surgery. I've seen so many doctors. They won't help me. I can't find any other patients with similar outcome. I suspect the damaging lesions to the inside of my spinal cord were already too complete to be reversed, but that's just a guess. I don't know why I'm commenting this. As though anyone reading this could help.

I'm so sorry. Thank you for sharing your situation. You help remind some that we're not alone. There is nothing doctors can do to help some of us

I have syringomyelia. I am only 37 years old. I can't control my bladder, can't stand for long or in the same position for periods of time. I get flare ups that are so bad at times I cannot move without help. I never wore glasses before not I can't even get a stronger prescription for my glasses. Maxed out. I cannot drive. Awful thing to deal with.
