Some help / advise, on a system, cold it's 1 bar, when hot it's 3 bar, it starts to rise from 2 to 3 bar over a short time, a few days, its a combi boiler, unvented, when I release some pressure, when hot, it then goes really low? Like 0.5 bar? The system is from 2008, its a heatline boiler, 15 mm rad pipe work, I cannot see a expansion tank,

Hello, I have one question for you, namely, why did the E- sign suddenly appear on my pump? Namely, the pump turned on but did not drive water through the pipes, but the E- sign appeared on the pump Then I turned the thermostat - button on the thermostat to a higher temperature, after which the pump turned off. Then I turned the thermostat - the button on the thermostat back to the same temperature as it was before the problem, and the pump turned on normally - there was no longer an E sign on the screen, but the temperature was 45 C, and now the pump is working normally. I wonder what was wrong or why did it happen that the pump turned on, the sign E- was on it, and not 45 C, but it did not send water through the pipes I sincerely thank you in advance for your reply.

I think it's really important to understand how components in a system in order to fault find better. I'm a vehicle mechanic in the army at the moment and constantly get my new tradesmen to explain components and systems to me so that they know how they work otherwise they are just a fitter. Great job as ever James and you are inspiring me more and more to become a plumber when I leave in a few years.

Great video! Your pulling apart and simple explanation of how the pump works allowed me to take one apart, take a look, realise the impeller had seized up thanks to magnetite. I managed to free it with a little elbow grease, as a stop-gap solution before replacing.

I bought the cheapest chinese ch pump you can imagine, cause back in a day, when i did my first boiler install back in 2015 i didn't know any better. Pumped fine, until hot water hit it from the boiler, and it stopped pumping. Had to put out a fire with fire extinguisher in cast iron boiler, so not to damage it. The bloody thing stopped spinning, because the impeller is just friction fit on the ceramic shaft, and hot water expanded it and made it larger and it basically stood in place while shaft was spinning. Put in a 100 euro grundfos smart pump and 3 years past, still works wonderfuly. The chinese one went outside to my small pond to circulate water, so to trap mosquito larvae, and keep water clear. Also, cause cold water, worked fine for 3 years. Moral of the story don't buy cheap pumps, it will only give you a headache.

@plumberparts Is it possible to replace the original pump in combi boiler Ideal for that from the video? I've installed one additional massive radiation on my kitchen and now the 1-2 radiators on the 1st floors are a bit colder than usual.
@wilbauk

With the Wilo SB30 for recirculation or in general can the head be removed and replaced upside-down? It will make wiring, fitting and maintenance easier.
@wilbauk
@wilbauk 2 жыл бұрын
That's a very good question William. Yes loosen and remove the two 5mm alan key bolts, reorient the pump head to your liking and reassemble being careful not to over tighten the bolts. It can be helpful in a confined installation. Don't forget observing the manufacturers instructions always ensure the pump itself is aligned correctly.

If you were moving a hot water tank from downstairs to upstairs would you also move the pump upstairs with the hot water tank or leave it downstairs with the boiler in its current location ???

i've got a ups3 (the one with no control button) in my combi boiler. It's got a PWM port with nothing connected to it, so it just runs at full speed. It doesn't seem that there's any PWM function on this boiler so why the PWM pump? Tempting to change the head for one with a button.

Hi. What would happen if the pump was wired the wrong way round i.e. live/neutral reversed? Would it spin "backwards" and if so, what would the symptoms be in the central heating system? Or does it not matter?

I have a grundfos pump and it set to speed 3 which sounds noisy, could I try it on a lower speed with out causing any serious issues?
@ronandaly96
@ronandaly96 6 жыл бұрын
Morpheus shouldn't be a problem. Sometimes having the pump set to 3 could actually be the issue. It's possible the pump is pumping the water too fast. Creates air.
@TrueDJ

Ronan Daly thanks for the reply, we recently had a new boiler fitted and when it is heating the hot water it does sound like air going through the boiler, we have a unvented water tank and a oil combi boiler.

Song goes - I'm reaching out to peoples hearts - i'm reaching out with plumberparts and if you're heating's got the hump then reach out for a Wilo pump,but first to help you win the fight just check that it's not magnetite ! Or could it be the thermostat - for purrfect insight - ask the cat.You're feeling cold and getting number - call plumberparts and bring back summer ! Russell Crowe has made a film about a Roman plumber - it's called Radiator. ( That's not part of the song BTW )
