This is an improvement to the rush hour on Tokyo trains. On my line, train doors often have to be pulled open because of the sheer amount of people putting pressure on the doors, keeping them from opening on their own. Trains are often delayed because of a "sick passenger" which usually means someone fainted from the crowding. People here also occasionally violently shove their body into the train, desperate not to wait for the next one. Outside of rush hour, Tokyo trains are a relatively pleasant experience.

I wonder how much more capacity the deep level lines could handle if they widened every platform like they have done at bank. The gridlock on the platform really seems like a huge bottleneck, if it was just double the width then he trains could probably depart much more frequently as there would be space for people to move on and off the train much more quickly. Of course it would be incredibly expensive to do so, but probably worth the cost.

10 years ago it wasn’t like this. It has got 25% more passengers in 10 years. In 10 years from now it will be even worse. The London Underground (a century-old network built when the metropolis was virtually the same size but had a fraction of the population) is completely overwhelmed. It desperately needs expanding. Not just with 1 crossrail line but with multiple. Look how dangerously and extremely overloaded it is. And the population density is increasing every day.

@sonicstep5 жыл бұрын
@@cameronabbey7981 I believe what he meant is if your usual destination is Russell Sqr., to get there you would typically change at King's Cross from say the Northern line train and use the Piccadilly line, rather than wait for an available train to get on, just leave that station and take a brisk walk to Russell Sqr. Similarly, if you find King's Cross too busy most times, perhaps go to Warren Street station and walk from there. Goodge Street and Tottenham Court Road stations are other possible options. None are on the doorstep of Russell Sqr., but if time is of the essence, you could actually save time, whilst avoiding the crush. Plus you gain some healthy exercise. Walking from a London suburb from as far affield as Leytonstone, Walthamstow, Coulsdon, Caterham, Purley, Shirley, West Wickham, Elmer's End, Crystal Palace, Dulwich, West Norwood, South Norwood, Thornton Heath, Norbury, Kingston, Richmond, Wallington, Carshalton, Cheam, Sutton, Morden, Collier's Wood, Wimbledon, Streatham, Brixton, Balham.. would be rediculous of course. 😂 To think 'one' Tsar bomba dropped in the centre of London could totally obliterate all of that and so much more. This is rush hour, most people are travelling to (commuting) much further out than one or two stations in central London. They will probably be on the train for the best part of 20 - 40 minutes. After the Central Line (as depicted here eastbound) gets past Bank, more people get off than on, Liverpool Street will take quite a few people who need the national rail services off the train, then all stations after this will have more people alighting than boarding. Trains on the Central Line can be timetabled as close as every 1.75 minutes in rush hour, with 30 seconds for loading/unloading, this means 1.25 minutes between depart and arrive in the platform. One problem of the Central Line is that in both east and west directions it has 2 branches, so some trains aren't going where people on the platform want to go, so they wait for the train to the correct destination. When platforms get this full, they usually restrict access by closing the ticket barriers at the station entrance, but since Oxford Circus has interchange with both Bakerloo and Victoria Lines they can't really stop people reaching the platform. But this is why Londoners try to tell tourists to avoid travelling in the rush hours (or morning and evening peaks), apart also from it costing more.
