FAQ! Read before commenting!! * Why a Tow Truck? Many Reasons! Ever since Miami-Dadd revieved their new “Heavy 1” they have been finding more and more uses for the unit. HR1 responds to EVERY Major MVA, Building collapse, Airboat Call, Major Trench Rescue, Fire GREATER than a 1st alarm, Confined space call, vehicle recovery and many othee calls where a crane might be useful. * Is this truck used to tow things? NO! This unit is strictly used as a Crane for lifting and moving. The only time this unit would tow a fire truck is if it is stuck in an area where personnel safety is at great risk! * Does Heavy 1 have firefighting equipment? No, if you compared HR1 to a regular heavy duty tow truck the only different you would find are sirens and different colored lights. This is when Squad 69 comes in! * What is the other unit in the video and what does it do? Thats Squad 69, essentially SQ69 is a Second Piece for HR1 carrying all of the misc equipment and FIRE GEAR! * Do I see 2 Q sirens? Unfortunately No, the one of the bottom left of the truck is the Real Q siren the other is a Electric Siren Cover

I could be wrong but I'm thinking this "tow truck" is actually a version known as a rotator, effectively a cross between a truck crane and a wrecker. Gorgeous rig!!
@CentralFloridaFire4 жыл бұрын
It is.
@dandunning44094 жыл бұрын
Yes it is a Rotator. However I don't think municipal agencys should be spending over a million dollars of tax payers money on a wrecker. Leave that to the private sector!
@nathanblackman10634 жыл бұрын
@@dandunning4409 it is better to have and not need than to need and not have. This way it can reach on the scene at the same time as the rest of the firefighters. Time is invaluable. Also they know the maintenance history etc so no chance of a cable breaking cause it hasn't been replaced. Not every rotator is as big as that one. Also again to find one of those in the private sector can take time, too much time and can cost people their lives. Tldr there are reasons why they have that truck. I understand your pov but it is better this way and that's a fact.
@brandons24114 жыл бұрын
@@dandunning4409 I agree. Im a first responder (incident response) and drive a tow truck but im in an f450 to clear the road way. i get they have these to lift for rescue but its a waste of resources. Airbag kits and other tools work just as well and cost a 10th of that rotator.
@dandunning44094 жыл бұрын
@@nathanblackman1063 Disagree 100%! Your taking away from the private sector. You have to send Firefighters to be trained on this Rotator that's more money on top of the million plus that the wrecker costed. Let firefighters be firefighters and wrecker operators be wrecker operators! I operated a 50 ton wrecker for a few year's and also was a Firefighter for 11 years so I have background on the matter not to say I'm an expert because I am NOT but there are plenty of Rotators out there especially in the bigger city's like this. I just don't see a need for a wrecker blowing thru red light's using lights and sirens putting the public at risk. If you think you might need the unit dispatch the closest one the same time you dispatch the FD. Just my opnion..

I don’t believe because having such a specialty truck like that isn’t justifiable for most departments if they ever need crane for a call they would most likely just call a tow truck company that has a rotator or a crane company although a tow truck company would probably have a quicker response time unless the fire department can convince the police department to do a escort Although a some state like Missouri do allow tow truck companies to have red and blue lights and sirens however those can only be used on the side of the road and can only be used to respond to a scene if a police department or fire department have requested that they expedite hence why they are also allowed sirens

All fire departments should have some sort of rig such as this for heavy work and not have to wait on a regular tow truck to get to the emergency scene
@imsayrocket4 жыл бұрын
Mark Henning Not all fire departments can afford that..
@jamesevans9384 жыл бұрын
Mark Henning most can’t justify a truck that that can cost anywhere between $500,000 to just over a million especially when it might not even be used in a year or at most only few times a year that’s why other states should copy Missouri because they allow tow truck companies to have red and blues and a siren that can be used instead of Amber lights so they can legally use them when on the side of the road and are only allowed to respond code 3 if they have been requested to respond code 3 by law enforcement or by a fire department and not only is this beneficial for fire departments because clearly a heavy wrecker can be used to save a life if Miami dade fire department and los Angeles fire department both have a heavy wrecker as heavy rescue trucks but it’s also beneficial to the tow truck drivers since studies have soon that some people simply ignore amber lights and are more likely to slow down and move over for red and blues than they are for amber lights

Why a tow truck? I mean I would understand the need for it to get a rig that has broken down but for responding to emergency calls? Pardon my ignorance but I'm in Ireland and normally the fire crews have pumpers, emergency tenders and ladder vehicles as 'standard' emergency response vehicles.....
@jamesevans9384 жыл бұрын
think of the truck as a heavy rescue truck with a 50 ton crane mounted on the back and think about how useful that would be because currently most fire departments have to wait for a towing company to bring a rotator if they need to lift something they most likely simply brought a tow truck since it has lots of storage for equipment and has the ability to lift heavy objects while a standard mobile crane doesn’t have lot of storage for equipment there for can only be used for one job however a rotator is the Swiss Army knife of rescue trucks

Why do they have a tow truck
@CentralFloridaFire4 жыл бұрын
Fires, airboat calls, trench rescue, etc
@jamesevans9384 жыл бұрын
They would most likely use it as a heavy rescue and since this is a rotator which is effectively a crane mixed with a tow truck so they would used it on calls that might require a crane and the reason why they would used a heavy wrecker/rotator is because it can carry a lot more equipment than a crane can so as well as carrying lifting it will most likely carry extrication equipment so it can be used as more as a rescue truck and will be used on motor vehicle accidents and another benefit is that if one of the other trucks in the fire department they won’t have to call out a tow company

Reasons same as above 3 LA city 4 south metro from Colorado 5 Miami dade 6 Austin fire department 7 phoenix fire 8 San Francisco fire 9 Seattle fire 10 New York City fire. Reason being is because they are lazy, they take their time at calls, they can barely walk, they are only known for 9/11 On the report for 9/11 it says that they didn’t know what mutual aid was, or radio commands. Some badass departments are Clark county Nevada fire, Reno fire, Las Vegas fire, north Las Vegas fire, San Diego, and San Bernardino fire, San Antonio fire, orange and Ventura counties.
