Texas Tough Plants for Sun and Shade: Kirk Alston

The Mystic Spires Blue Salvia (Texas Superstar plant) has been a wonderful pollinator attractant, particularly for the small bees, the bumblebees, and the various butterflies. On December 6, 2023, we had a huge number of Monarch butterflies in this Salvia, where people walking the neighborhood were stopping and taking videos (they're planted a few feet from the sidewalk). Just today, I counted as many as five Monarchs at one time in this bed, so I think we're seeing the start of the migration to the north. Fun to watch!
