For me, hubby, and mom, we save birthday, anniversary, Mothers Day, Valentines cards, etc. I keep them in a box in the closet and when that time of year comes up, we go shopping in our own stash year after year. It’s wonderful to see a favorite card again, not to mention the savings!

@@M_SC We just reuse them for each other. For example, for my recent birthday, hubby got in the box and picked one of the birthday cards that he has given me for many years over and over. Every few years, we may see a new card that we want to purchase for a birthday or a special day, and then we add that card to the box. Mom and I do the same… Just the three of us who live together. We buy new cards for other people, although we do mostly stick to the $1 cards at Walmart or Dollar General. Hope this helps to clarify 😊

Since Covid, when I was furloughed, I started making my own cards & have yet to buy one. (I am a scrapbooker but never felt like I had the time to devote to cards). I love making them, & now make them for a local hospice, and also donate to Cards for Kindness. Would love to buy ice cream, but just can’t justify paying the cost. The produce situation aggravates me because the bad items are usually in the center of the bag, so I can't see them until I'm emptying the bag. I started using whey powder. Less convenient. Less sugar. Better results. Having some right now. I carry a couple of snack bars in case I start to crash, but when I find a recipe for homemade, I'll switch. I carry single serving instant coffee. Between the huge jump in price and the lack of variety vs. when I started doing this, I've decided to bag my own. I got some tiny Mylar pouches and I fill them at home for a fraction of the cost.

My husband and I are pretty much vegetarians. I put good produce as a priority. I know it's expensive, but we love our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) subscription. We get a box of produce every week. It's completely to our specifications via their web site and is tip-top quality. Since it's pricey, I'm careful to never let anything go to waste. The apples are out of this world flavorful and come in many varieties. The lettuce is so beautiful I have to call my husband in to enjoy looking at it when I unbox it. They have things like gold cauliflower, red carrots, broccolini, several different kinds of lettuce, like red or green bib or leaf, and many different kinds of mushrooms. It all encourages me to cook and eat more healthfully and not waste any food. I feel lucky it's available in my area.

Ive been buying just what i need for the meals im cooking for the next few days. I used to spend so much money on stuff that i thought was a good idea because it was on sale but we never touched it! What a waste! Lesson learned 😂 also buying just a few peices of fruit that i know that will get eaten/used in recipes. Because i would grab bags of apples and oranges but then half of them would go to the deer out in woods because i couldn't eat the same thing day after day. Not a complete waste of money but still....

I bought a large container of hand soap at Walmart about 6 months ago and it was $5 something for the store brand. Yesterday I saw the same container was $9.99! I went to Dollar Tree and bought some (3/4th the size package) but still WAY cheaper, so two make more than the big one at Walmart for $2.50. Also our Walmart is putting in locked cabinets all over the store. Oh, I saw hair gel for $24.99! I'm a curly girl and have to have hair gel and thought the 6.99 I paid a few weeks ago was bad.

An X is the intersection of two lines. If you eat produce, you probably don't have all that wide of a variety of produce that you like to eat. On that X, one line is how much produce cost to buy, and the other line is how easy a produce is to grow. It'll come as no surprise that the cheaper produce is the easier to grow. Hard to grow produce, sometimes called "royal sovereigns," require an expert to grow in abundance. Example: If you love to eat kale. It isn't terribly expensive to buy. Kale grows so easily and abundantly that you could throw the seeds over your shoulder like a bride throwing her bouquet, and wherever a kale seed lands a huge barrel-size plant springs up. It can't get easier than that. Other desireable plants may be easy enough, but I suggest starting with "started plants," which are those that you buy in small pots. I'm saying all of this because once you grow your own anything, you realize that shop-bought produce tastes like a watered-down version of that flavor. Sort of like a few drops of flavor in a bucket of water. Produce grown in your own backyard is full-flavored. It's such a robust mouthful of flavor that it's a whole new world of flavor. I grew my own until arthritis stopped me being able to do so. I want to encourage everyone to try to grow something this year. I do suggest those that are easy to grow. You'll know which easy ones to try by the intersection of what you like and which is cheapest in your local store. If you rarely eat a thing, such as radishes, then don't grow them, although you would get an amazing amount if you did. What if you love lychee, me too, but they require expertise and the kind of person who can look at a plant and it just starts growing for them. So that isn't one to start with. Start with what you actually eat. Start with started plants. And remember they all have to be harvested at the same time and processed within a day or two. So resist any temptation to grow a hundred and twenty plants of whatever you do decide to try. It's a lot of work to preserve and store things long-term such as Jams and Preserves in a waterbath canner. Many berry plants provide two or three dozen pint-sized jars of preserves. Nevertheless, you'll get more flavor in one teaspoon of homegrown raspberry jam than you can get in three tablespoons of shop bought raspberry jam. Most people will lose twenty pounds or more in a year without any dieting at all simply because one teaspoon of calories versus three tablespoons of calories. Once your tastebuds are satisfied, you stop eating. We all do. If you don't know just how much you want to try. Then may I suggest that you buy strawberries. Canning lids is all you'll need if you're the sort who keeps glass pasta sauce jars, such as Classico. Canning lids will fit Classico. Otherwise, buy pint-size canning jars. Wash them in your dishwasher and leave hot while you use a food processor to blintz the berries down. What you need: 2 pots: one to boil your berries and one to boil the canning jars. Jar tongs, 2 quarts strawberries (two large packages). 2 TBS lemon juice. (Normally I use low/no sugar pectin and only add a cup or two of sugar in my recipe. However, if you're using regular pectin.) 7 cups sugar. 1 packet powdered pectin. What you do: Wash and cut tops off berries. Food processor the berries and add to a large pot. Add lemon juice and pectin. (Powdered pectin is added before you heat the berries, liquid pectin is added after you bring the berries to temperature.) Bring to a boil and add sugar. Boil for 1 minute. Remove from heat, stir and skim for 5 min. (If you add a TBS of butter, there is practically no 'skin' to skim.) Ladle into hot/warm jars, wipe the rim with a clean cloth, add a warm canning lid and secure with a lid- ring that is finger tight (which means don't use brute force to tighten the ring for all it's worth, just normal tight) and can for 10 min in enough boiling water to cover the jars. NOTE: You can use a dutch oven or a stockpot, you don't have to buy a proper canner. You will need a trivet to hold the jars off the bottom of your pot. Here is a link to a Canadian woman, Kim, who I think well of: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKfCfaWBbNOkjcUsi=pfhZpoqhs76HAAyq

I'll remove the skin and debone and chop the chicken. I'll freeze 2 cups of chopped chicken to use in casseroles or salads. Then I use the bones to make broth. It takes time, but the results are excellent. I bake my own cakes. I don't bake cookies very often. I do buy protein bars and shakes. They're great when we're on the go. My husband prefers 2% milk and he drinks a lot, but I prefer whole milk, but I don't drink a lot. So I started buying shelf stable whole milk from Dollar Tree. I went up to Las Vegas on March 2 nd, went to Costco while I was there. Bought a bag of nectarines and they went bad before they ripened. Even when I tossed them out they were still hard. If I would have bought them locally I would have returned them.

I feel like Sams club has some items at a low price with more quantity. Example Caesars salad kits under $4. Also, while not the cheapest the prepared fruit trays quality and good quantity $12 to $14.

I've been making my own napkins, rags from extra sewing material i got when it was 50 cents a yard. Buying only what is on sale meats when they have a great sale. Make from scratch cookies, cupcakes , etc. Make sauce from my tomato garden. I will do more of that this year. Our farmers market has BOGO . I'm just on a tight budget. ❤you're video taking a few of your tips.!!!

We're finding that our produce in some of our grocery stores are bad , and they charge a lot for them. Our Asian market has good produce, but again it's expensive. Walmart seems to have the best produce, so that's are go to for fresh and affordable produce. Have A Wonderful Weekend Everyone ❤

Is the ice cream really half a gallon or is it only 48 ounces. The ice cream companies have really done a great job of shrinkflation. I won’t be buying Coca-Cola or any other soft drinks in cans. They’ve gotten ridiculously expensive. Even the 2 L bottles are overpriced these days. I will buy a 2 L bottle and refrigerate it. After refrigeration, I split it into five servings. One that I use immediately, the other four in smaller bottles , about 400 mL or 13 ounces each. More affordable, $.20 a serving versus $.36 a serving for a can if you are lucky. I have to try to give up soft drinks. They’ve become ridiculously overpriced, even more expensive than milk.

As far as ice cream goes, Aldi's own brand is very tasty and that is the one I buy the most. I do not buy out of season produce, like melons or strawberries. Since there is just me at the house, I often buy only a couple of potatoes or 2 or 3 tomatoes rather than a bag. I have been watching Jan for a long time, she has great tips and some great recipes for quick and inexpensive lunches or dinners. Thanks for sharing. Y'all have a Blessed day.

I don't do hardly any processed foods. I get mostly organic veggies and fruits. I don't buy cards at all. I make something or make a card. I don't waste food at all. I bought a container that keeps salad good longer and i make enough salad for 4 days all at once and eat a salad with dinner each night. In the salad is spinach, leaf lettuce, carrot, cucumber, tomato, radishes, red onion, peas and cilantro. I top with a small amount of cheese and dressing and this salad spice i found at Walmart. I buy one bag generic pretzels at HEB for $1.50 and it lasts me a month. I do not buy candy bars, cookies or any other snack like that. I do pretzels or baked veggie chips with salsa for snacks. They are lower in fat and inexpensive. I don't eat breakfast very often. When i do, it's scrambled eggs. I snack on fresh fruit mostly. It's inexpensive and better for your health. I buy a huge salmon at HEB for around $20-$25 and then cut it into small portions and freeze it. That one salmon lasts nearly 3 months. I also get a 10 lb bag of tilapia that also lasts me three months. Then I'll also do chicken thighs, one thigh or one single pork rib with my salad for dinner. I make the husband casseroles or spaghetti etc. I buy a 10 lb bag of ckn legs and thighs and divide that up into single portions and freeze it. He can eat anything, I'm trying to lose weight so i eat healthier. I'll make his meals with pasta or rice or potatoes and that makes it stretch further. I have cut down the amount of meat that i put in the casseroles to save money. He hasn't even noticed. BTW, potatoes will last a month in the fridge. I only buy him salami or bologna from Walmart at $2 a package. I use that turkey breast lunchmeat that's $2.67 a package. I make him some of those muffins you just add milk to, for $1 a package. I refuse to pay $7-$9 for lunch meat. That's ridiculous. I don't buy soda or coffee. I drink tea that i make myself or water. That's actually quite inexpensive.

I buy 2-3 different fruits 🍎 🍉 🍏 and banana 🍌 that are on sale or loss liters About $6-7 a week total every week Unless, I make fruit bars or a fruit deserts. The bars are all fresh ingredients. I have to say your missing huge savings by not buying chicken with bones, maybe buy chickens and leg quarters that are on sale and cook them and take the meat off the bones and cook it in a meal! I cook with mostly with non Canned ingredients except for tomatoes and a few others, mostly cook from scratch

Protein bars and protein powder are so expensive and unnecessary, If I need a boost I take a few walnuts, if I want a smoothie I add pb powder, I am selective in the produce, quality not quantity, so I'm not wasting it because there is no flavor. Less meat purchased more meatless meals, healthier and very satisfying,

If you save your receipt until you go back to the store and write on the back or mark the product that was bad and they'll give you your money back.I've always done this cause i'm not going to pay for anything and it not be any good period!!! Not spending money on sugary products, snacks like chips, cookies, cakes, pies, decorations,Holiday, fashion, beauty products( haircolor, makeup, etc.) Fashion, clothes, New electronics. My money is going on necessities, nutritional foods like vegetables, meats, fruits, grains, dairy, eggs, cheese etc.Basically healthy foods no middel isles processed boxed pre mixed pre-made garbage that is highly processed and filled with chemicals, high in sodium and other things that are not healthy for anyone.the only things i will buy off the center isles are salt, pepper, plan seasoning chili powder, garlic powder, onion flakes, cumen, tumric, italian seasoning, cloves, cinnamo etc.,grains, pastas, organic unbleached flour and organic cornmeal or just buy whole non-gmo popcorn and mill my on cornmeal at home, good quality olive oil, whole gmo free pure cane sugar for baking i do on occasion for my children and grandchildren. If it can be made, grown thats what i'm doing.
