Make easy faux wood flooring for your dollhouse or diorama using thin chipboard from paper food packaging. I show two methods you can choose from. This technique can be used to make parquet, herringbone, chevron and other patterns as well.
I made 1:12 scale flooring but you can make flooring for other scales by changing the dimensions.
1:24 scale - 1/8" wide boards, 3.5" long
1:12 scale - 1/4" wide, 7" long
To simplify things, you can make the boards up to 8" long. You get more coverage, so it takes less time and has fewer seams.
1:6 scale - 1/2" wide, 14" long
I have lots of projects planned ranging from abandoned miniatures, furniture makeovers, dioramas, accessories, kits and Dollhouse Miniatures in multiple scales. I also have a large Harry Potter build planned for 1" scale.
Please Like, Comment & Subscribe to support my efforts and so you don't miss out on future videos.
Thank you,
Shyra

Using adhesive tape is such a good idea. Not only does it avoid warping but it also means you can avoid the process of adding glue every 5 minutes. I am definitely going to try this! Love the suggestion of the products too. It's gorgeous!
@queencityminis

Thank you so much! I love not having to take the time to add glue. I can also walk away at any point and the tape will still be sticky when I get back. Another plus: no glue squeezing between the boards and blocking stain.

This is so cool!! My sister and I have done the second method you demonstrated and to add a bit more "character" we made indentations representing nail heads. We have also made deeper marks that kind of look like knots and other imperfections in the wood. When she and I began doing mini's 25+ years ago there was very little choice available for so many things. And if you could find what you were looking for it was so expensive that buying it wasn't an option so making what we needed became the norm. One of the reasons I enjoy your channel is because you make everything you possibly can by hand. Thank you for creating, showing, and sharing your creative spark!!

That's such a cool idea! You could definitely create a lot of character by doing that. For people with a Cricut Maker and a debossing tool, the machine could do all the work for you. I have a Cricut Maker but I rarely use it bc I hate taking the time to deal with technology.
@MimmiesMinis-KellyPenny

@@queencityminis I have thought about maybe purchasing a Cricut but I just can't justify the cost for what I would be using it for. Maybe if the YT channel I'd like to start goes anywhere I could better justify the cost and maybe even recoup my investment selling some of the items I could make 🤷🏻‍♀️ the whole thing makes me so nervous!! I don't have any problems speaking to a group or in public, but I'm kinda unsure how to begin. Wow! That went off topic, sorry 😁 The wax you added to the floors is so gorgeous! I have some clear, liquid wax I picked up for finishing, but I wonder if I can tint it? Hmmm... I feel an experiment coming on LoL 😂

YES! You could absolutely use the debossing tool on your Cricut to engrave the floors. I was thinking about that this morning. I used Satin Polycrylic. I don't like high gloss finishes on wood. I think it looks more realistic with a lower sheen and photographs better.

The second method with the scoring instead of individual strips would be banger for wainscoting!! If you score them as squares you can probably make a fast and easy tile, too! This is a great tutorial and gives many ideas, thank you

I did this for my 1:24 house and it looks amazing and much cheaper than real wood. I did use glue because I wanted something that was long lasting and held it down to dry with heavy tiles.

Thank yo so much for this tutorial. I usually use my cereal and other boxes for journal covers but I have been thinking about giving a room diorama a try and now I know how to easily make the flooring. The first method does look beautiful, but I have a hard time cutting straight even in a trimmer, so using a ruler and stylus will probably make better looking floors.
@queencityminis
@queencityminis Жыл бұрын
I used a ruler to cut the strips and they aren't perfect, but close enough 😆 I have a paper cutter with a sliding blade and I think even slower with that. I need a stainless ruler with a cork backing bc my ruler is very smooth, which made it harder to cut straight strips. It was sliding around.
@2CraftySeniors
@2CraftySeniors Жыл бұрын
@@queencityminis I already have a stainless ruler, so I'm good there. I have a room model to put together that has a printed paper wooden floor that would look better with either of these. Really appreciate learning how to do this! 🥰
