Outside of the ultra-limited edition 7 season Blu-ray box set, there have been no official North American releases of series 2, 3, or 4. Anyone selling those is selling the U.K. discs. www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Doctor-Series-2/22544

I've never seen the grey cover British releases! In Australia, the DVDs look almost identical to the British ones, but the cases are clear with the same information on the reverse side so you can see it through the clear cover. Collecting wise, I personally love collecting non-fiction books, old annuals, and mugs.

Awesome, Hippie Whovian (great name)! That's interesting about the differences between the British and the Australian DVDs. I always assumed the Australian DVDs were identical to the British ones, so it's interesting to hear that this is not the case. Also, that's really cool about collecting non-fiction books, old annuals, and mugs. I have a few mugs myself, but I'd like some more, especially of the vintage variety.

I had nearly all the VHS tapes of the Classic series they released in the UK. Then I upgraded the Classic to DVD. Got rid of most of my old VHS tapes. Still kept some of the old VHS tapes and the tin box sets as they were birthday / Christmas presents and watched the hell out of them as a kid in the 80's. I don't think I will upgrade the classic series to Blu-ray. Still need to finish off my DVD collection. less than 10 discs I believe. Doctor Who was big for me growing up in Britain. I remember watching the end run of Tom Baker when it aired till the end in 89 when it was "Put on hold". So a lot of my collection and love for the show runs from the 80's. Still have the old Dapol figures from late 80's and 90's. Even the New Who series figures and Classic from the last 10+ years. I'm a big toy collector as well as film and TV shows. Which most of my action figures I collect are from. I love and really enjoy the new series. But it's the classic series I always go to and re-watch the most. Seen all episodes that have not been wiped. Each Doctor is great and brings something to the role. and i'm sure Jodie Whittaker will. But we all have our preferred Doctors. and that is always fine. Who ever they are they are the Doctor.

Sure, but there's nothing super special about them. I don't have anything rare. I have the original series, the next generation, and all the movies on Blu-ray, Deep Space Nine on DVD, the Animated Series on DVD, and Enterprise on Blu-ray. I don't have Voyager yet. I used to have all the movies on those two-DVD sets, but I don't anymore. I wish I still did.

Yes! Comes out in America in June, I believe. I'll be buying it day one. I already have all those stories, but it's worth it for the potential upgrade in quality and new extras that feature Tom Baker.

Is it even worth rebuying the first few seasons of New Who on bluray? If I recall correctly, the first episode to be shot for HD was Planet of the Dead.

It’s true. They’re upscales and they do look better, but whether or not it’s worth a double dip if you don’t already own them is a serious question. I think so, but other might not.

Years back, the US Doctor Who DVD market appeared to have the upper hand over us in the UK. I was very interested in seeing The Key to Time series arc,but it hadn't had a UK release,so I bought the US editions. Disappointment. Poor picture quality, and vanilla releases. Last week,I finally got around to buying the more recent UK Box-set of the same series (it had come down far enough in price),and it's wonderful! Remastered image quality;sharper Audio;and tons of extras. What to do with my US editions? Judging from what you said at the end of your video, perhaps I should sell them back to a US viewer?!

You're right! For a long time in the earlier days, the US releases were running circles around the UK discs. America even got stuff the UK didn't have yet, like the Key to Time season. I think America got the Trial of a Timelord season well before the UK, too. Then the UK starting getting remastered, better editions and now the UK versions are the standards and the US versions feel like lazy afterthoughts (because I think they probably are). I can't decide if I want to keep my duplicate DVDs or sell them. The only reason to keep them would be in case they get even more valuable, which is a possibility. But then again, selling what I have could definitely go a long way to financing a complete UK collection. Investment versus practicality? I should probably go with practicality!
