BELL, BOOK & CANDLE came out on a Twilight Time blu-ray and, more recently, a Sony blu-ray. Terrific film! CASH MCCALL has only been on DVD. It first came out as part of the Natalie Wood collection, and, I guess, got a later, separate release. Not on blu. Entertaining film, with cool opening.

I myself just recently took in my entire duplicate & old titles that I’ve either upgraded from DVD to Blu-ray or Blu-Ray to 4K and I had 5 huge boxes overflowing and I took them all to the secondhand store as I wasn’t going to sell them on eBay so it worked out perfectly. It gives more people the chance to see and buy titles cheap that might not have been bought otherwise.

Dont sleep on pawn shops. I hit one recently where all dvds were 50 cents and they had thousands of them. I often find rare titles and oop stuff there. I also found like 30 copies of Elizabethtown for some reason.

I agree, heath. I've become across a lot of pretty good stuff. i just picked up 2 of those pbs concert dvds at a thrift store recently. You never used to see those in the wild, and the time to pick it up is when you see it, especially if it's really cheap. im like, you ill take a chance on a lot of the 40s - 60s stuff most of them ive seen but every once in awhile I'll come across a new gem a lot of the stuff i got years ago im glad i got them when i did bc like you said alot of the old tv show sets have been out of print for years ditto for time life have a lot of there stuff dean martin red skelton bob hope carol burnett great stuff on the carol burnett show i do like it but i agree not as high on it as some are.. 👌

I'm big on thrifting and here in KY, while I still get incredible deals, I've seen several stores go UP in price. $1-$2 was standard dvd or blu, but some have went up to $5 mark and that's too steep for my blood, unless it's a gem. My tip to any thrifter, and I hate to give it out - seek out a Half Price Books OUTLET store, they have 50% of sales and occasionally 'Bag Sales' - all you can stuff in a bag for $25; I can get at least 60-70 in one of those bags.

I used to donate my old DVDs to a thrift store up the street from me, but it closed years ago. Then I donated some to the local library, and they either stock them for rental, or sell them in a small section at the entrance. I'll be donating some more in a couple weeks from what I have left, since I mostly upgraded to Blu-ray. Still keep some DVDs I've upgraded from for sentimental or novelty value. By the way, Carol Burnett starred in one of the few bad episodes of the OG "Twilight Zone" called 'Cavender is Coming'!

At the place I work we get people bringing in dvds to sell all the time, and most of the time if we can't take it they ask us to toss it (we donate them when we're able). It's usually people getting rid of stuff "because it's all on streaming" or sometimes we get people who inherited a collection looking to unload as much as possible. It's one of the reasons I love watching thrift hauls like this, just being able to see the excitement of a collector finding and appreciating media that would otherwise go unloved.

I'm in Australia and 2nd hand stores are basically the only way I buy DVDs & Blurays these days. 2 weeks ago I found Ace Ventura on DVD with the extra scene where he pretends to be the Swedish dolphin trainer, something I'd been searching for for a decade or two...never even realised it was on physical format, always thought it was a TV cut only, also got Gattaca, Flying Daggers, 3:10 to Yuma and American Gangster and XXX steelbooks. Then last week found a shop with DVDs for $1 each. Got over 20 movies including Mask, Corpse Bride, Ted, Karate Kid trilogy, 10 Things, Toy Story 3 on Blu-ray, The Thirteenth Floor, Gentleman Broncos, Team America, a sealed copy of Breaker Morant and seasons 2&4 of Farscape...among others. And a PJ Harvey live performance too! 2nd hand stores are a treasure trove, even here in Australia!!!

So happy to see one of your thrift store hauls again. I really enjoy them and have missed them. My own collection has primarily grown through thrift store shopping. My local Goodwill finally brought back the 50% off color on Sundays after shutting it down 4 years ago due to Covid. I'll go in on a Sunday and just shop the half off color, usually coming away with 10 titles on DVD. Hope you continue to do more thrift store hauls

My Goodwill's have the 1/2 off color for every day of the week (color changes each week), but they've stopped tagging the physical media and have a $2 for DVD, Blu-rays, CDs flat pricing all year round with no discounts anymore.

Regarding your region B comment, I’ve actually found quite a few of those sets out in the wild, but they were region free at the end of the day. At the same store, I have found two copies of the Dirty Harry collection, both sealed, and The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings Collection. Also, that was a good snag on Mother‘s Boys. I was fortunate enough to get a Blu-ray of it right around the time Echo Bridge lost the Miramax license, so I picked it up for about five bucks.

Couple of weeks ago I randomly stopped at my local goodwill and found the entire 8 films to die for on DVD factory sealed, for 2 bucks a piece had to pick them up

I usually go to a record store here in Chicago for in-person buying that has a good physical media selection, including used 4ks. But those thrift store prices are killer! Great video, sir.

I look at some of the titles and wonder how many of these titles come from a home where the original owner passed on; or how many were discs that someone purchased via eBay and did not get what they were expecting (hence the Korean font on the cover). I used to get used DVDs and CDs sold by the library but passed on many that looked like they had been used to play frisbee with the German Shepherd. Comedy is a very specific taste; I do laugh at the Carol Burnett reruns (even the ones without Tim Conway, though the mention of Mr Conway will always get me sitting down to see what happens). Then again, I have very specific memories of watching the show as a young'un. I loved the imagery inherent in "DIVX machines in the wild", which makes it sound like a scene from HATARI!. I want to see the scene where John Wayne and Red Buttons take the truck out to snare a savage DIVX machine.

My thoughts are that someone passed away and their children are dumping their collection. Its my worse nightmare! Im sure my children will do the same. I told them to sell them, but I dont think it will happen.

People dump their collections themselves when they drop physical and move digital as well. Children dumping their deceased parents collections is nothing new, and happens with most collections. They will never spend the time individually pricing these things out to just make a few buck per item. The best you could hope for is they blow it out at a garage sale, worst outcome it get thrown in the trash, which is worse for everyone. The thing collectors have to ask themselves, is whether they are collecting these items for their own enjoyment or to provide some kind of financial investment for their children. If it’s the latter there are better ways to do that. These “collections” being dumped on the market is good for the other participants, it’s the circle of collecting.

The only thrift store left around here is Goodwill. There were like 3 more but they closed down. I have found everything on thrift stores local and foreign discs, videogames, clothing, Halloween decorations, etc.🤔

the BEST way to clean a disc is car wax. I use a cloth diaper & Turtle Wax. If that doesn't do the trick, nothing will. Try it out!

Excellent selections! To me, the title track to "Harvest Moon" is the most beautiful song he's ever recorded. "Mother's Boys" has a scene near the end that really made me squirm - you will know it when you see it. I had no idea about Time Life! Thank you so much for the heads up. I loved the Cereal At Midnight Field Trip Edition! Heath I am glad you didn’t pass on that Fletch. I love thrift stores because when I have a craving to watch a movie and see if I enjoy it again, get the DVD for $1. You don’t always need 4K. And you ever notice that thrift stores always have Inside Man, haha. Finally, Heath just give Carol Burnett another try. I love her show.

3:40 Hopefully you didn't want Titanic 3D because you went right by it. 4:16 I will still pick up DVDs because there are stores in my neck of the woods that would pay 4-5 for older titles and if I'm only paying a buck or 2 for them then I could be multiplying my earning by 5x. There is a thrift store at the end of my street that sells DVD, blu-rays, 4K blu-rays for a Canadian loonie. Doesn't even matter if it is a box set or not and they have 50% sales 2 or 3 times a month. Last month picked up Rockford Files (Millcreek), Buck Rodgers and Battlestar Galactica (original series) all complete series for 50 cents each. Also picked up the Audie Murphy Kino Lorber 3 blu-ray box set for also 50 cents. As for CDs they sell them for 50 cents and then obviously a quarter during their 50% off sale and it doesn't matter if it's a 4 cd box set it still sells for a quarter on that day.

I always clean dirty thrift discs with alcohol. Haven't had any problems.

I think some of this reasoning might come from that some other pressed disc formats suffered from fogging when using strong alcohol. That and people using strong solvents like acetone.

Personally, I prefer some stuff on DVD. Some Blu-ray releases tend to be too sharp, too grainy, or too saturated. My preference varies depending on what looks better for that particular film! Keep the magic alive 🪄😀

@robertt9342 Oh no, not at all... I don't even think of VHS tapes lol. For example, I own the Looney Tunes Platnum Collection which I own on Blu-ray and also the Looney Tunes Golden Collection which was only released to DVD. Both Collections share some of the same shorts, I actually prefer how they look on the Golden Collection. However, this isn't always the case. It's also the other way around in some cases where the Blu-ray looks better. I hope it didn't seem like I was trashing Blu-ray 😬 I was just stating that I prefer the DVD versions of some releases. I promise I wasn't trashing 🫠🙃 I love both, but it varies in which one I prefer after upgrading to Blu-ray where I'm able to compare. At times I have preferred the DVD after the upgrade 😁
