Just got into your videos. Really like the way you are so casual and no edit style. I’ve been collecting physical media for quite a while, but I also collecting digital media just for the easy access. Been thinking about how to organize them, been using Blu-ray.com, but the site and its app have a long way to get to what I hope the display of the collection. Anyway really like how you are so passionate about this stuff and seriously no one around me get it why I got them and still getting them. Keeping up your good work.

I use collecting software called CLZ Movies. There's an app IOS app that costs 15 dollars, allows me to scan everything in, and does a really good job of cross referencing my collection. Even has optional cloud service. I think there's a free version, if you want to try it out. Thanks for checking out the videos! Don't do many long form videos these days, but I livestream sometimes. which is even more fun.

Hard to appreciate production design and cinematography without the best possible visual presentation
@CerealAtMidnight
@CerealAtMidnight 5 жыл бұрын
It's really not. We have better presentation than the entire history of film and it's now at our fingertips on pristine, restored prints, but that doesn't mean that those that came before didn't have appreciation of the art and craft of film-making or that we're better than them because we now have access to 4K transfers. We believe quality shines through. Do we want the best? Yes, absolutely. But if someone can become exposed to a great movie through a DVD or even a VHS, that's a win for everybody.

I recently discovered your channel and must say I like what your doing. I am really enjoying this series, so thank you! Side note we have a lot of Scooby Doo. It was a thing I loved from my childhood and was able to share it with my kids. It makes such great memories! My son is 13 and still has a Scooby poster in his room and he has an accent wall with Mystery inc and the gangs catch phrases on it. We have a room similar to yours which my wife calls the Nerd room. It’s where we keep collectibles and our gaming systems. Sorry for rambling, thanks for hanging out with us!

I'm totally on board with you and CDs I have a hard copy and a digital copy. My "clicky wheel" ipod is loaded with songs and it's generally my preferred way to listen to music. Finding CDs is super cheap too. Just like in the video it's like finding a vein of gold at the Sally Ann when you find some one just donated all the of items you love. I've even bought a second copy of a cd I know I have just to have one in the car if it's under a $1 and I just want to listen to it. Though I will say I still like hearing music on the radio, a son you haven't heard when you're driving of doing work just has a universal feel to it.
@CerealAtMidnight

I feel you, Mason. I mean, an MP3 is a dollar or more. If you can find a whole CD for cheap, rip the music from it and put it on a digital device like an iPod or an iPhone, then have a hard copy for your own archives, then you have won at life. I get comments on some of these videos where people are like "who still buys CDs? LOLOLOL." I'm like, you know you can get the music off the CD and listen to it however you want to, right? And you have something physical that will probably last a lot longer than your phone or MP3 player.

Finally subscribed to you. Loved your impersonation of what a live stream is like. Spot on lol. Earlier this year I've been getting back into buying more Blu Rays thanks to you, Chris Stuckmmans, Flick Pick and Films at Home. I owned Blu Rays before finding your channels like the OT star wars trilogy, Force awakens and Deadpool are a few that come to mind. Been nice owning the movies I love and the great commentary's that come with the movies. The Commentary's for Deadpool and the Evil Dead movies are both hilarious and informative about the behind the scenes. :)

Speaking of 90s Miramax films I just watched Flirting With Disaster. Funny movie. He's not credited on the cover but Josh Brolin has a prominent role. He's always been an adventurous actor. Co-starring 90s darling Patricia Arquette. I've been sweet on her since The Indian Runner. She's adorable here. Decent looking DVD but could use an upgrade. No blu-ray release.

28:53 If you're buying music outright, CDs are by far the best deals. Nobody wants 'em anymore, so you can get a LOT of them at thrift stores, oftentimes far cheaper than their digital counterparts on iTunes. Only downside is, for a lot of older stuff, scratches are common. Still, something is better than nothing.

When I was making the Collecting at Midnight videos, I was only doing one video a week. When I switched to three or more videos each week, the content that I was talking about in Collecting at Midnight ended up getting broken into smaller, more bite-size videos spread out a little bit. It ended up being easier on me and I think easier on the audience. I could tell from the analytics that the average viewer was only watching 15 minutes before bailing, so I just decided to focus more on shorter, more focused vids. I may still get back to it if I have something that really demands a long form. I also do live streams now which offer a similar "hang out" vibe.

Been playing this video off and on while I work so please excuse the random comments. Good stuff, sir. Have you picked up Dick Tracy on blu-ray? If not, it's a stunner....which is surprising as it's a bare-bones affair....but wow, really shows off the medium's potential. Regarding Deep Purple, right before vinyl started getting big again and driving the prices up I bought a beautiful NM copy of In Rock for $10 off of ebay. Unreal. Sounds fantastic. What a killer record. Warner Bros still has a listing for that Monkees blu-ray set but it's not showing as in stock. There are sold listings for the set on ebay for upwards of $600-700. That's just Nuts!
@CerealAtMidnight
@CerealAtMidnight 5 жыл бұрын
I do have the Dick Tracy Blu-ray, but I haven't watched it in several years. I remember it being night and day above the DVD, which always looked bad, even by contemporary DVD standards. Nice score on In Rock! And it's very crazy what's going on with those Monkees Blu-rays. I wonder if they've pulled stock. I can't imagine they sold 10,000 units at 200 dollars, but I guess it's possible.
@damianp564
@damianp564 5 жыл бұрын
@@CerealAtMidnight There appears to have been a spike in sales when Peter Tork died earlier this year. That or they pulled it to create demand. They must have lost a lot of sets due to those shipping issues. There is an option to leave your email address should they find more stock. Though the word is the episodes look "stunning" I'd hold out for a stripped down version.

I like physical media too. Mostly I like it for stuff I like a lot. I am aware that it can turn from a nice thing to have in my life to a real burden, for me it is like this. I guess, and it is a guess, that most things are about moderation, balance and knowing where to draw the line. What I mean buy this is. Imagine you like buying blu-rays, shoes, clothes or whatever. There must be some number where it becomes too many. Lets say it's 20 pairs or shoes. I use shoes as an example because the number is lower. What happens when you have purchased 20? If you make the decision that 20 is the maximum before purchasing them it may have a big impact on what you purchase.

The whole time you were talking about Snake Eyes I kept thinking oh yeah that's the movie where the helicopter crashes through the Arena roof, of course that was Sudden Death; I blame the lateness of the hour or I'm just getting old. As regards getting old, like you and the Wonder Boys I swear I have the Persuaders (an early 70s TV show starring Roger Moore and Tony Curtis) but I've been looking for a year without success, I refuse to believe my memory has played a trick on me. Toys R Us are also closing in the UK; we've also lost two other chains in the last few weeks that soldl physical media, it really does feel like bricks and mortar stores are rapidly going the way of the Dodo, which is a crying shame.

Last Thing I PROMISE speaking of Blu Ray, We can't afford it right now but My FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME is Planet Of The Apes (68) Named my boy Taylor cause of that Film. So I HAD the Collectors Box of ALL THE APES DVD's The TV Series and The Cartoon So we needed the Money and I sold it BUT not before I burned ALL the Discs to DVD I know you might frown upon that but I KNEW I'd never have another chance to get All these again (True) so I I know Burned DVDs don't last forever So I bought the 5 original films from Mal Wart for like $13 So Anyhoo I used a code (Included) to register the Films to VCUD or whatever it's called So I hate to sound Old but could you explain to me Where I go to see the films? ARRGH lol

How about just alphabetizing your collection on the shelf?
@CerealAtMidnight
@CerealAtMidnight 5 жыл бұрын
I wish it was that easy! When a collection reaches a certain number, something as simple as alphabetizing could take weeks. Also, we'd have to leave room for all the new acquisitions as they come in, and that's not possible given the space issues. A living, growing collection is impossible to keep organized.
