Umm, they have always worn the field jacket with the service uniform at Marine Barracks Washington. And I do believe it was authorized with the service uniform when it was current issue. For someone who is whining about "what has happened to my Corps" you don't even seem to know what the service uniform is called...

The purpose is to simulate wearing a blues blouse which is what is worn for ceremonies, sometimes 4-5 days a week. It has a very similar feel and much easier to maintain.

This is only done at the Barracks at 8th & I, not Marine Crops wide. And if you watch one the behind the scenes videos put out by 8th & I you'll see that that these Marines still practice at being grunts when they're not performing ceremonial duties.
