I can tell, kudos to you! I used to own a JCM800 years ago but I always thought it was ridiculously bright and it only really does one sound. I keep hearing this sound in my head as to what I think a Marshall should sound like and I thought the coca-cola label JCM2000 you own was it but now... I think a hot rodded plexi is catching up to it. Haha.

I was just looking at schematics of Friedman's & yeti's and they all seem to be set up the same with the era switch, seems to just be diodes. There weren't part numbers, but it seems to be two sets of diodes oriented in the same direction so they must be different, otherwise they'd sound identical ...switch goes one way you get one set, switch goes to the other, get the other and in the middle they're lifted. like Goodfellas, when Joe Pesci he's with his mother and they look at the painting, yeah I like that, one goes this way.....

I am going to order my first Ceriatone and wanted to check with you on if you still have the Son of Yeti and how well did it small gig?
@FlightSimDude5 жыл бұрын
I've been mixing through head phones because of my living situation . This particular pair I have are Marantz Pro MPH-1's . I read somewhere they were 20 hz 20 khz , that and the price is why I got them . I found my mix's to be a little bass heavy after mixing through the Marantz . I found that out after burning them to a CD and checking them in the car. I went back and dropped the bass on the bass track down a little bit along with the bass on the kick. Anyway I am using a Bugera 1990 Infinium amp , I got it because I can't afford anything else right now . It's suppose to be a Marshall JCM 900 clone . When I record through it I go direct. I have a 16 ohm two note captor. I tried using amp sims and IR's but I couldn't make them work , as in I didn't like the sound . For some reason my sound using the IR's and cab sims didn't sound right , like a malfunction , never got to the bottom of it . So now I use the on board cab sim in the two note. It actually sounds pretty good . The two note speaker sim is a Celestion Vintage 30 . I have to lay down 3 RG tracks to get the sound I want . For the solos I just lay down one track and I use a Johnson distortion EQ with a sweepable mids , kinda like a wah wah sitting in the midrange but not as thin . I also added a little delay on the solos. This is not my end all sound . I am still saving $ to get a better amp . I'm leaning toward a Ceriatone Son of Yeti I saw you demo . I hope you will go to this link and give this song a listen . Thanks Darryl www.soundclick.com/html5/v4/player.cfm?songID=13766841

Leon, would love if you would redo this video with a cab and a some 80s rock. I'm looking at grabbing a Ceriatone. Been in touch with Nik and he thought the Yeti and SOY might be too much gain for what I love....VH, GNR, ACDC tones. Your thoughts would be great on that. I don't do the super heavy stuff but I'm thinking this thing could get me what I want.
@nudsh3 жыл бұрын
Just think of the Yeti and SoY as a regular Marshall amp with a gain boost built in. You can back either off to some truly vintage tones. For G&R for example, roll off the guitar volume a tad with the gain a little higher on the amp and then vol up for the lead sections. The overhead should get you both tones without more gear. The gain here is a bit 'saggy' so it shouldn't be too modern for you. Plus, that extra headroom is nice in a mix.

There isn’t a lot of information on our website. Hey Leon love the tone of this amp you think its aloud enough to jam in a band setting? How about for live with a mic in front of it? Cheers!
@turunturun Жыл бұрын
I’m not Leon, but I have a 15 watt Matchless Spitfire clone I built myself, and for everything but very clean cleans it was perfectly fine for a band setting with a heavy handed drummer. This one will be just fine as well, with the only issue being if you want very clean cleans you’d need to mic it up. And in general, if you’re going to mic an amp up and monitor it you’d actually want the LOWEST amount of wattage (assuming a tube amp here) that gets your sound so you can really get the amp cooking. Sound guys used to love it when I’d bring a 15 watt Fender Pro Junior to gigs and do everything with pedals. Actual comments from club sound guys regarding the pro junior: “finally a dude that knows what he’s doing” and “nice! The guitars gonna sound good tonite”. That said, I’d get compliments on my tone steadily when I was using my main gigging amp which was a 35W Mesa Maverick which kept up fine with a band (very cooking cleans at stage volume) but would usually get mic’s up anyway.

Great channel, Leon! How do you find the low end with the 6V6s vs your average 50 watt Marshall EL34 power section? I was torn between a 50 watt Yeti or Chupacabra, but now you have me looking at the SoY. I tend to go for big iron 6L6/EL34 amps, but this sounds killer!
@LeonTodd6 жыл бұрын
Really glad to hear you like the channel. Sounds like we have very similar tastes when it comes to amps, and I'm definitely a fan of 50W or 100W Marshall's, Boogies and Soldano's. I generally find low wattage amps based around EL84's a bit saggy and hard to control in the low's, so the SoY really surprised me with how well the 6V6's did the modded Marshall tones. It's definitely not going to be as loud as a big iron EL34/6L6 amp but if you've already got a few of those kicking around like I do it's a refreshing amp to add to the collection. I'm loving it for recording!
@spy5906 жыл бұрын
Leon Todd That’s great to hear! I’ve been a Dual Rec guy for a long time, and I have a couple of other 100 watt high gainers in the collection. I’ve tried some EL84 based mini amps, and I just don’t dig the tones. I even tried the mini rec for a bit since I’m so familiar with that preamp, but ultimately I felt it just wasn’t what I was looking for in a compact unit. My current favorite low wattage amp is the 25 watt PRS Archon with its 5881s. I’m hoping the SoY will add some nice low wattage Marshall variety without sounding thin. By the way, your Ax8 vids are some of the best on YT. Thanks for all the killer content...cheers!
@LeonTodd6 жыл бұрын
Right there with you regarding the Recto :) I'm pretty fussy and the SoY is making me pretty happy. i'm sure a yeti or Chupacabra would be an amazing amp to own but for the money the SoY is hard to beat.
