This supplemental video provides installation instructions for CertainTeed's Intake Vent. This video is meant to be used in combination with the printed instructions that accompany your Intake Vent product.
CertainTeed Intake Vent provides continuous intake airflow at the roof's edge and provides proper intake ventilation for homes with little or no overhang. It's a roof-top installed, shingle-over intake vent that can be used to supplement existing soffit or undereave vents.
CertainTeed Ridge Vent combined with sufficient intake vents, such as CertainTeed Intake Vent, are the most efficient and effective systems you can install.

What is not covered in this video is that the edge vent hangs over the roof edge an inch or more which is not compatible with standard 5" residential gutters! I've found that water jumps the gutter completely or catches the lip and drips down the bottom of the gutter. I get water splashing on the house and windows, gutter dirt spilling/drying on the front of the gutter, and water pooling around the house as a result. After 3-4 years of trying to figure things out, I'm looking for gutter replacements to upgrade to a 6" K style gutter. Not too happy about the extra out-of-pocket costs as a result of not informing the homeowner or installation without knowing this information beforehand. I might even price out-the-box style 7" gutters to be sure all water is collected, downspouted, and away from the property.

How durable are these units? I live in Texas and we get major wind and often grape or larger hail!

Does this work in cold climates

Never install this product in cold weather areas with heavy snow and ice as you will get water backing up under the product.

Thanks for this info...I thought they would cause issues with snow swirlling around on the roof....contractor thought it might be a good idea to use these as some of the rafters are blocked by skylight or sun tunnel installations so passive air flow to ridge vent is blocked in those rafter areas. I will instead do cross venting and drill some holes in the rafters that are blocked, upper 2 inches close to sheathing, as I am working on the 2 inch air space from soffit to ridge vent then insulation of 4-6 inches of rigid foam. Appreciate your input 👍👍💯🇨🇦

Wish my roofer in NJ would have recommended this. I have an old house without soffits. Now I have to install gables cause these contractors are dummies

You have a good luck with the roofer tha stuff always leaking 100%gable vents are the best

Blame the builder for being a dummie. Been roofing contractor for 50 years I do not like this edge stuff with hard blowing rains in texas

I wish more advertising/education for this way of venting. In Canada a lot of cottages are built with roof on wall. I have asked many ppl here how to vent and they just scratch their heads. Really some education/advertising on this project is REALLY needed this way
