I think the last episode of Voyager ended far too abruptly. They could’ve made a lot more out of the crew getting back to the Alpha Quadrant & being reunited with their loved ones, debriefing with Starfleet etc. Considering that was their ultimate mission for the entire series. I am still mad about what happened to Icheb. That was so heartbreaking to see. Always loved his character and I wish he had been developed more. I also wish the Borg girl child had stayed onboard, to continue her friendships with Icheb and Naomi. As for Naomi, I love imaging her having to deal with sporadic Tribble outbreaks on K7. But back to Icheb, Q Junior owed him at least one favor. Could have easily kept an eye on his wellbeing and saved his life at least once. Or at the very least ease his suffering... he didn't deserve such a tortuous death.

The autobiography of Kathryn Janeway hints at the celebrity status of the crew after returning from the Delta Quadrant. Harry, Tom and Chakotay has to wear fake beards, hats, sunglasses etc. Tuvok immediately return to Vulcan so he could be with his family. Legal loophole: The emitter was made in 29th century, but voyager got it in 1996 when they were taken to the past by captain Braxton. Since it's technically a historical artifact obtained from a dead CEO in the past, it's not legally from "the future" according to federation temporal law. Regarding Nelix.. in my headcanon/fanfiction. he grew his little colony into a substantial "little federation" based on federation principals. The asteroid colony became an entertainment hub with many holo suites similar but bigger than Deep Space9. A Las Vagas type economy. The other groups in Little federation included the Miners(dont remember what they are called) and several other local species, The BorgCoorporative and Ocampa and others like the TakTak and the PhotonicBeings who could interact with them via the Holosuites ! .. seems like a good story .. well in my head at least ..

Sadly, it all seems contrived in order to bring together the dangling threads of storylines no one really intended to mesh with one another. What the Star Trek universe really needs is a Dave Filoni type person who knows the lore inside and out who can start to make sense of all the threads of Star Trek lore and outline a path for all future shows and movies.

What I loved so much about TBG, DS9, and Voyager, was that they had a big crossover in the storyline, like after the maquis were wiped out, the information was finally able to be gained by the crew on voyager it sent B'elanna into a massive depression that let the show touch upon topics like suicide without feeling forced. (Chief O'Brian had another good one in DS9 after he went to a mental prison for like 50 years) but I digress. I was always impressed in the episodes where they sent the doctor back, or when Ensign Kim got sent back by some time controlling alien entity.... all the uniforms and everything were the new style that was adopted by the federation with all grey, then your branch colors were undergarments. Voyager ppl always showed up with these bright old uniforms.

What happened to the crew of the Equinox after being demoted to crewmen? I take it they faced a court marshal but still curious what happened to the surviving crew after returning home.
@TheBigExclusive
@TheBigExclusive 2 жыл бұрын
My guess is the Equinox incident was quietly swept under the rug or classified. Starfleet just got through a brutal war with the Dominion and didn't want to hurt morale any further with a public trial. The surviving crew of Equinox probably got off light. They would be allowed to quietly retire, or be assigned to some unimportant job with no authority. I'm also sure Vice Admiral Janeway made sure they never got promoted again and their Starfleet careers went nowhere.... as a punishment. But that punishment is certainly better than the alternative of a trial and death penalty.
@TacComControl
@TacComControl 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheBigExclusive pretty much this. It will have hurt those crewmen's chance for advancement in future, but something tells me they were just ready to let bygones be bygones, under the principle of extenuating circumstance. As much as the crew of the equinox were kind of out of their minds, they were doing whatever they had to do to survive, which while it involves violating the prime directive, and basically enslaving another species, again, it's all they could do.
@TheBigExclusive
@TheBigExclusive 2 жыл бұрын
@@TacComControl - Very good point. Starfleet understands the Equinox were stranded alone for years without any supplies or hope. Watching 70% of the Equinox crew die in the first few months probably made the survivors go crazy and do things they wouldn't normally do. Starfleet doesn't agree with the Equinox crew's actions. But the Starfleet Admirals can't judge or condemn them. It was a matter of life and death. And Starfleet just experienced a war and did many different dark things to beat the Dominion (breaking treaties, cloaking weapons, making biological weapons, viruses, assassinations, lying, murder, using Stars themselves as weapons, and even asking god aliens for help). Starfleet knew full well what survival costs and what it takes. That's why I think the Equinox incident was buried, or even deleted from the public records. They told the Equinox crew to go home and never talk about the horror they experienced. To forget it and move on.

I guess it would be put down as "All the Captain's fault" and the crew would be excused - like Riker was with Adm. Pressman's rule breaking in "The Pegasus". But the fact that they were reduced in rank by Janeway would probably make it impossible to cover up completely.

There ought to have been at least one episode that dealt with the ex-Equinox "crewmen" before the series ended. Well, chalk it up to 1) lack of continuity; and 2) preoccupation with Seven of Nine and her storylines.

What happened to the run of the mill crewman (so basically the people who never were in Starfleet and/or didn't want to be? Were they compensated for their service? Because frankly I doubt that most of the lower ranking Maquis would want to stay in Starfleet to be bossed around by people who basically bartered away their homes to the Cardassians, who went on to devestate the Alpha Quadrant!)? Sure the officers with their cushy jobs (from Chakotay to B'Elana!) of course kept their commissions, the Maquis' objectives have after all been fulfilled during the Dominion War and they can enjoy a great job, while also being able to tell others "I was right" or "I told you that you were wrong!" constantly!
@StephenWittMusic
@StephenWittMusic 2 жыл бұрын
Since the Federation doesn't really have or need money anymore at this point in the timeline, I don't think they would be compensated, because no one gets compensated (or needs paid from what we understand). I'm sure that, in light of their exemplary service (and at Janeway's request) - they'd be debriefed like everyone, pardoned of any crimes they had committed and sent on to choose whatever path they wanted tho! Maybe even offered a role in Starfleet due to their experience - IF they wanted it. Which would be a big deal after being involved in the Maquis. But as always they would be free to leave Starfleet if their values still didn't align.
@oldtwinsna8347
@oldtwinsna8347 2 жыл бұрын
The Maquis would not be obligated to stay in Starfleet a single minute after the ship returned. Besides, I somehow doubt Starfleet would allow them to retain their equivalent status in Starfleet itself (whether crewman, and definitely not as an officer). At most, they would receive some experience points IF they applied as a new recruit or academy prospect. Then again, it is highly like Starfleet would not hire any former Maquis to begin with as it would potentially undermine the integrity of what Starfleet stands for. The Maquis were and still were classified as a terrorist organization that advocated for the deaths of Starfleet personnel who stood in their way. That did not change over the course of the Dominion war. Starfleet cannot afford to take that risk. Yes, they would be celebrated after returning, get a bottle of champagne from the Federation President, but after the party is over for night, they would not be treated well, career-wise.

Alot of point to their being an anti Borg fleet when they decided they had little interested in actual defenses and weapons. That could actually destroy Borg forces. Quite a few of these are kinda well known as well from the STO as well as the books. Quite a few of the crew seems finds themselves in charge of major important units an powerful vessels. Pull all the crew members that wound up Captain or higher an you got enough leadership to fully staff a good sized fleet. I would think Chakotay would've had to pay the price for being a Maquis member (and leader in particular). After all, there were Maquis members caught placed into Federation prisons - and those were deemed the "lucky" ones since the Dominion wiped out everyone else. I can easily see the rest of his Val Jean crew being exonerated for the commendable actions they took onboard Voyager, but knowing how evil the Federation operates with this kind of thing, someone would have to pay the price and Chakotay would easily volunteer himself. Keep in mind there would be a LOT of figures of authority around the Federation demanding blood, including those who lost family members in Maquis raids. They would not be amused that just because Voyager returned safely that the issue should be snubbed at as if nothing happened. As a compromise, probably nothing major for sentencing, like 10 years in a rehabilitation facility, which Chakotay would laugh off as being good time for him to reflect and meditate, writing books at how stupid Starfleet is. Nonetheless, may further explain the fallout Seven had with Starfleet after coming back.

Picard season 2 establishes that Seven of Nine wasn't allowed to join Starfleet (even with Admiral Janeway's recommednation) because she was distrusted due to her past as a Borg drone. Which is kind of weird, considering Icheb was also a former Borg drone and he was able to join Starfleet.

It's possible that Seven put her application in first and went through the circus of being denied. It probably got to Icheb not to even bother. Not one of my top tier ships, but a tough little ship ("Little?" -Worf) that I used to hit and harass enemy ships in support of the bigger vessels and boy did I love doing the flips. Such a fun vessel and frankly absurd in the context of Star Trek. That scene with Icheb was shocking and made me mad. I get it, story need punch for Nine's character arc and killing off a reoccurring character violently is one way to do that, but damn why you gotta do my boy like that. I used to have a bit of a crush on the actor back in the day too, so that didn't help lol.

If one follows the one where we saw the old admiral Janeway who goes back in time to save the day as it were and we look at the party that was thrown we would see that Naomi wildman has a daughter of her own and it doesn't say who the father is but several times it kind of implies that she and Egypt may have had a thing and that would make some sense because her mother raised her as a single parent she might not have felt that she needed a father in the picture and that would make at least a lot more sense than what we see in that section of the episode... It will also mean that you know Egypt looks like he's in his mid 30s when he was tortured and died in seven of nines arms so it kind of implies that maybe he had a life before that happened and like I said that would explain a lot. What is the time putting down Egypt instead of Icheb don’t get the name printed my hands don’t work, it’s why I use voice to text…. Voice to text sucks.

The Voyager dropped Neelix as an ambassador in the Delta Quadrant. I am pretty sure that with the knowledge they brought home, technology made a quantum leap, and with the slipstream drive, they would see Neelix again very soon, in a matter of months rather than decades. And of course, the slipstream technology made the warp technology obsolete, so no more damage was done to the spacetime continuum, and FTL restrictions could be lifted.

"Made warp technology obselete" Did you forget that they developed warp 10 and could 'safely' use a shuttle to effectively teleport anywhere in the universe. Sure it had negative side effects, but the doctor developed a way to counteract those effects, essentially providing a way for warp 10 to be achieved without negative side effects.(Voyager couldn't reach warp 10 because of hull integrity, but I assume the ablative hull generator may have fixed) And since Voyager also had a mine capable of destroying a planet(the one that seven proposed be used to spread nanoprobes throughout fluidic space, to harm species 8472). It would make sense that Starfleet would want to develop a warp 10 shuttle with the capability of destroying a planet. SF is lucky that the crew of Voyager wanted to return home on good terms. And that they weren't assimilated. If Voyager had been assimilated in endgame, that would have been the end of the entire franchise. They would have assimilated the mobile emmiter and been able to do everything that Seven's "son" was capable of(personal forcefield, transporting one's self around without using a ship to do so, and all the adaptations to the ship we saw that episode). The borg would have been able to pop up anywhere/everywhere and assimilate everyone. And anything they can't assimilate, they can destroy with planet busting explosives. But borg and future tech aside, Voyager was capable of manufacturing shuttle capable of warp 10 and had developed methods of sustaining a somewhat small crew on long term missions(in unexplored space). Starfleet essentially got a masterclass on how to create the perfect warvessel. Anything in the tineline after Voyager should be about how Starfleet quickly spread throughout all quadrants and ended each war(that they may have ending up in) within a year, by completely annihilating entire planets.

Even though biologically she was an adult and intellectually was a genius, developmentally she was a teenager at best by the end of Voyager's journey. So also, there's the super gross angle that Chakotay who was middle-aged by the end of Voyager was dating a very inexperienced woman with the maturity level of a teenager. @@railroad5024 yep that's a good point. It's basically statutory r*pe. The reason that doing that to kids is highly illegal isn't because of their height/size or anything like that. It's because they are mentally underdeveloped, and so they don't understand the consequences, and can be easily manipulated by adults into doing things they don't really know what to do, and so they can't legally consent, even if they think they actually want it to happen, they don't know, because they're confused and easily tricked. That's why it can still be statutory r*pe even if the person is an adult physically, if they're severely mentally disabled and so have the mind of a child. 7 of 9 never really left childhood. She barely knows how to have a conversation with an adult, let alone have sex with them. And it just gets even more creepy when you see things like her and Naomi Wildman being best friends. That was put in the show to show everyone how old 7 of 9 was, development wise. We were meant to see her as really basically the same as Naomi. Both are incredibly smart. But they're still young children.
@railroad5024
@railroad5024 2 жыл бұрын
@@duffman18 yeeeeaahhh I wouldn't go as far as to label it statutory r-pe. In my mind, Seven had the maturity of a teen like 17-19 years old by the end of the show. So not quite as socio-emotionally underdeveloped to not know what she was doing and be unable to consent, but enough to make it highly inappropriate for Chakotay to entertain her romantic advances anywhere past her "social experiment". I like to think of Chakotay as a character with lots of integrity, so I would hope he wouldn't manipulate her into doing things she wasn't ready for. But at his age, he'd probably be wanting more from relationships than people who are just beginning to experience dating aren't ready for yet. At least that how he tends to get written in post-Endgame "fixer-upper" fan fiction lol. I think there was plenty of other young ensigns/lieutenants/crew on that ship writers could have had him pursue since Janeway kept herself off limits. Jor, Marla (from equinox crew, and bonus points she blonde lol), Henley, or Nicolletti for example. All probably quite younger than him, but likely experienced enough that they wouldn't be so vastly unmatched maturity wise. Plus in my head I'm holding onto the books that say they broke up like a couple weeks after Voyager returned and refuse to think that Chakotay and Seven were together long enough for her to get to the point of requesting to "experiment" in that activity 🤮. If memory serves, Seven of Nine was supposed to make a cameo appearance in Star Trek Nemesis as Admiral Janeway's adjutant. If accurate it would suggest that Seven received a Starfleet officers commission. In Alpha canon it is stated that once Voyager returned to the Alpha Quadrant it was converted into a Museum to exhibit the discoveries the crew made in on their journey home. If this is the case it's likely that the crew went on to serve on another vessel, perhaps a new Intrepid class straight out of Utopia Planitia christened USS Voyager NCC-74656-A.

The problem with that was by 2001 franchise fatigue had settled in with Star Trek. The 90’s was arguably the golden era for the franchise but coming into the 2000’s it wasn’t as hot. After Nemesis bombed in ‘02 they decided to move away from the TNG era and do a full reset with Enterprise. A Riker series just wouldn’t have been seen as a good idea. The TNG crew had just bombed at the box office, and there’s no guarantee Johnathan Frakes would’ve been willing to commit to another series, especially one without his co-stars. That’s why they went for a soft reboot with Enterprise instead, but that failed and Star Trek as a franchise went silent until JJ Trek.

In real life Most of the USAs founding fathers could be considered terrorists, Nelson Mandella who served as president of South Africa had before that spent decades in prison as a terrorist bomb maker. Captain Sir Thomas Cochran, member of Parlement was kicked out of the Royal Navy and stripped of his knighthood after being convicted of stock exchange fraud, although he was allowed to continue as an MP (the conviction was later overturned), left the UK for Chile, where he helpedform that nations navy and liberate Chile and several other South American countries (the Spanish certainly would have considerred him a terrorist or the 19th centuary equivelent thereof) then he was welcomed back into the Royal Navy as an Admiral (being promoted upon his return)

@Marcus Jones In lore, the maquis were citizens that lived on worlds that the Federation ceded to the Cardassians to keep them from starting a war with the Federation. The maquis, as a result, defended themselves from Cardassia. Chakotay, a Starfleet officer, resigned his commission after Cardassia killed his entire family on one of these worlds and Starfleet refused to do anything because they didn't want to start a war. When Chakotay resigned, he joined the Maquis to defend his home. There was a lot of support for the maquis among some starfleet officers, and they assisted them with weapons secretly. Regardless, 3-4 years later, the Federation was at full-scale war with Cardassia. I don't think, in this context, it would be that difficult, given Chakotay's leadership aboard Voyager, to forgive him for defending his home against an enemy that ultimately declared war on the federation anyways.

After finding out that they’d have to pay the original creator of the Lacarno character every time is first or last name was used, they decided to make him an original character. The actor (Robert Duncan McNeill) even said he knew about it, and was upset they changed the character. He said he tried to talk them into a reveal at the very end that he had been Lacarno all along, and his fake name/story was just a cover so the people on the ship wouldn’t blackball him for being responsible for the death of a cadet and cover up, but they denied his request.

It seems very regrettable that Lt. Carey survived all the way up until the 7th season, only to be killed a few episodes before Voyager made it home. =(

It seemed like a pretty senseless move by the writers.

I liked Seven being an ambassador and unofficial leader in the Borg Cooperative in _STO_ . Of course, canon has no such thing as self-liberated Borg. A shame, I like to see how things that were established previously could have potentially gone on. I feel similarly about the Romulan Republic as opposed to the Romulan Free State (of which we know nothing except for the name and symbol). I hope CBS has the sense to leave Kuumarke and her people out of canon, as they are the last truly _TNG_ - feeling characters in the franchise. That the Lukari are original to _STO_ only adds to that, in my opinion.

It doesn't? Sure it does. That was what Hugh and Lore and his bros were, weren't they? Self-liberated borg. Hugh got liberated originally by the enterprise crew, but he spread it to the rest of his borg mates himself, and so they left the collective, somehow, before running into Lore and deciding to follow him, because they were in desperate need of a leader and a direction to go down in life, and Lore was a narcissist little prick and so he'd never turn down the chance to rule over people, especially with the borg being his private army meaning he was one of the most powerful leaders in the galaxy because nothing has the strength and durability of a borg, not even Klingons or Jem Hadar. Well except for Lore and Data and B4 of course, but that wouldn't make an army, even if all 3 of then worked together My theory in how they actually managed to leave the Borg without being destroyed by them has always been that the borg _LET_ them go. Like cutting out a tumour to save a patient. If someone has breast cancer, you end up having to remove the whole breast, to be safe, so it doesn't spread any further. The borg could see that what was essentially a computer virus was spreading through their ranks, so that more and more borg would become individuals if they didn't stop it. Even though enterprise had decided against using the virus they specifically designed to do this to the borg to destroy them for the sake of Hugh being an individual sentient being, his individuality had somehow remained anyway and achieved the same thing, helping tons of borg liberate themselves. And since this individuality virus could spread through air/space via the borg Wi-Fi connection, they didn't even want to get within lightyears of Hugh's ship because the individuality virus would spread to any borg ship that got near them, and then the borg would have to send another ship to destroy that one and so on. Letting a few hundred borg go so that the disease wouldn't spread anymore, would be the most logical option. I haven't seen all of Picard yet so I don't know if they ever talk about this (cos I know Hugh is actually in it and is mates with Picard still). That'd be cool if they did. Cos a new war against the borg a century after the dominion war would be a cool idea for a show. The borg more powerful than ever, adapted to resist the ways in which people like Picard and janeway came up with to destroy the borg (like they're weak to physical bullets in First Contact, so start making huge physical torpedoes again or something for attacking borg cubes, instead of phasers and photon torpedoes which can easily be blocked by shields because they're not really physical). It could be a pure war show, like Band of Brothers but in space. Could be a miniseries too. And you could make it M-Rated like band of brothers was, to show the reality of what war is like

There was an episode I remember from when I was still a kid, where 7/9 was connecting with free Borg in her dreams and the queen had to go there. I was sent to bed before I found out how it ended.

@@duffman18 They were still more renegades than an established free faction of their own, that can last awhile. I see the Cooperative as a sort of extension of the consequences of both Hugh and those _Voyager_ freed from Unimatrix Zero.

Great video! I'd love to see one for the DS9 crew as I've never read any of the novels. I know that Picard canon tells us what happened to Seven of Nine, but I'm more a pick and choose what you like guy when it comes to canon so I'm ignoring that entire show for many reasons. 😁

At least we're getting follow-ups on the Voyager crew with the new ST series, such as Picard and Intrepid. It's good to see one Intrepid episode doing the long-awaited follow-up on the Equinox crew.

A movie to cap off Voyager would have been good. Set 5-10 years after they return, some issue where they needed to return to the Delta quadrant. Janeway calls on the old crew that she trusts. Area they were the only ones familiar with.
