Certina DS-1: is it the perfect everyday watch below € 1000?

I have a Tissot Gentleman powermatic 80 in blue since a few months. And I am tempted to get this Certina in blue as well, it really looks awesome. These two watches have basically the same movement and with same runtime and should be a good complement to each other. Both are very stylish but with very different character when I want to vary the style now and then.

I agree with you that the watch seems very good value for money for a Swiss watch. I have just bought the special edition DS-1 with the green dial and mesh strap. The green dial has a wonderful richness to it and the gradual darkening of the colour towards the edge of the dial makes the whole thing beautiful. The large double date window first caught my eye and it is a great feature and makes change from a cyclops window. Although it was released in 2019 there are still new ones around to be bought including off the Tissot website itself. The dial is gorgeous with its sun ray effect and the mesh strap has a lovely smart vintage look to it. I agree that it is a lot of watch for its money. It's my first Tissot other than a Tissot Touch I bought many years ago (and gave to someone).

@@WatchTheFreshFaces Yes, the green dial is my favourite among the DS-1 models and the fact that it has a mesh bracelet and is a special edition just adds to its appeal. The bracelet is actually one of the better one I have come across.

I bought this very watch 2 days before this came out. Just now found this vid and, it is the best review of this timepiece I've seen. The DS-system is like the Granddaddy of G-shock; redone for 2020+ This is really a great all 'rounder (& I wanted the BigDate, not gonna lie). With 20mm lugs, happily pairs with many straps. Only Flaw: the glass is begging to have a super-clear/99% clarity coating. If so, it would look like a €3k+ timepiece. As is, I see too many reflections under low-light & indoor lights. A good light-blue AR undercoat would be a decent halfway compromise.

Another great, fresh take on classic, distinguished, timepieces that puts the lie to today's hype culture. RADO, Mido, Hamilton, Tissot, Union Glashütte and Certina (just among Swatch Brands), Alpina, DOXA, Zodiac, YEMA are all putting out heritage pieces of superb distinction, quality and craftsmanship that can actual be worn for their intended purpose and technological specialty. People today forget, or never knew, how superlative and cutting edge these brands were in their time. What the Powermatic 80 and Powermatic 80 Silicium are today. I have an early 70's Tissot T12 Navigator Sports/Dress model (the direct precursor to the Aqua Terra) on an original Guy Frères bracelet, where the bracelet and case out-stun the OP and Explorer of the day, and the in-house movement matches or outperforms the Aegler of the day. I also have the matching Navigator T12 Worldtimer with a Compressor case, again on an original (and superior to the coaeval Rolex's) Guy Frères bracelet, which design-wise was something outrageously bold and daring and out of this world. Let's keep bringing back the historical recognition and pride of innovation in Certina's DS, Mido's "Multifort", and Tissot's PR (Particularly Robust) S, C and X. And keep doing these great videos!
