I have a pair of these in my basement (finished basement with a pool table). I bought them new for 500 bucks (for both) back in fall of 1992. I bought my house in 96' and the pool table in 97' and that's when they were moved downstairs. They've been sitting in the same place for over 24 years now and are in flawless condition (well, they both currently need the woofers refoamed). Anyone who had ever played pool at my house over the years still talk about those speakers. Quite possibly the best 500 dollars I ever spent.

The pair I bought was from an individual who had to sell them. They are in mint condition I only paid 200 for the pair. Wow deal of the decade.

Great sound, but I find the models with 12" woofers to be more balanced. The ones with 15" woofers tend to be too bassy

Hi, I have refoamed my dx9 woofers and replaced tweeter membrane and new ferrofluid. Was driving them with Pioneer VSX-D901S receiver at 250 wickets at 4 ohms, but had to crank the volume up to feel base. Just ordered Crown XLi 3500 at 1350 wpc in hopes to have lots of power to create the ooooomph base from these huge woofers. Is that wrong thinking? I don’t want to blow my windows out and the speakers but seems these require a lot of power to move them?

Use bigger speaker cables. Mine are 1 inch in diameter. You will get alot more cone control and better sound. I run mine on anything from a crown xs900 to the BGW performance 4 series amps. Up to 1200 watts at times. This particular model was not meant to be bass heavy like the AT or SE series speakers.

@@dougcallmaker239 I can't image running more current to these than some healthy 10 or 12 gauge could handle.

I want to get some of these what kind or power amplifier to use to power these?
@BIGAZSPEAKERS4 жыл бұрын
Hi Tony, What makes the larger Cerwin speakers so great is they are very sensitive, but can also handle a lot of power. Sometimes I run on a 30wpc tube amp and love them, other times I hook up one Power Amp, I currently use an AB Research amp Model 6600A which can run over 300wpc or Briged to run 1200wpc when I want to run multiple pairs at once as that amp is very stable at 2 ohms. But I find satisfaction in the lower wattage amps and higher, but almost all of these CV cabs need to be resealed from the inside before throwing too much power on them as the cabs will rattle like crazy, but pretty easy task to complete. Amps are easy to find, its really finding a preamp that you love. If looking for most bang for your buck, typically Crown amps can be sound local and with good specs and all the power you need for a great price.

I use an adcom 5300 on mine. I'm very happy with the sound. it has no problem driving my dx9's as well as a 15 inch car sub paralleled onto it at 2 ohms, which brings it down to a measured 1.7 ohms at the amp. the amp is fairly simple inside, but beefy. the only down side to this amp is the turn-on thump. I've fixed this myself by building a simple delay circuit with a pair of relays, which disconnects the output of the amp until about 2 seconds after turning it on. works great
