I'm with you buddy. The highly controlled production staff slipped up and let the lack of MAGIC show through in this video. In dog training, there is an ugly middle.... when the dog escaped the fence... he let the dog SUCCEED with his bad behavior. I'm not saying that he is a bad dog trainer. I'm saying that he is NOT a dog WHISPERER.... like MAGIC.... like Dr. Doolittle. There is nothing about true dog training that is Magic as his show tries to pretend that Cesar does. I believe that there are literally THOUSANDS of balanced dog trainers that can do what Cesar does, and many that can do it BETTER. Applause to him that he was able to secure a TV contract. Congratulations!! I'm happy for him. BUT, that in no way, means that he is RARE as a dog trainer. If you want exceptional results for problems with your dog... just seek out an average balanced dog trainer.

I adopted a previously abused chocolate lab. He was petrified to climb stairs (had been kicked down them maybe?). He'd howl at bottom of stairs (wanting to come up and sleep/be with us). It took putting food on each stair (very food motivated) and helping him climb while he hugged the wall side of the stairs, cowering and shaking, tail between legs and MANY repetitions of this until he finally felt safe and climbed stairs on his own. Poor dog had many other fears we had to work on as well. We got him at 2 yrs old, by his 3rd b-day most of his fears were cured and he lived a beautiful life as a member of our family for 15 more years - RIP Shadow. A very rewarding experience and I'd do it all again in a NY minute!

What a wonderful story about Shadow ❤. So many people don't understand the joy an animal can bring to your family. I had a Great Pyrenees dog, he was almost 200 lb. We never lived in a house with stairs so Bear had no clue. One day we had to move and we stayed at a hotel for a few days. The hotel put us on the 3rd floor, there were no elevators. There was no way Bear was going to walk up the stairs. I've had Bear since he was a very small puppy, I got him off a farm, so he's never seen stairs before. I'm thankful he was never abused like your dog might have been. It was one of the hardest things trying to carry such a large dog up 3 flights of stairs. He laid down and dead weighted us 😂. Then fast forward years down the road we moved into a two-story house bear was not having the stairs 😂. He refused to go up them but eventually, he went up to the first landing and he would lay down. He did exactly what Shadow did, he would hug the wall, face the wall, and shake while walking up the stairs slowly. At the top of my stairs we had a giant two-room office and in the center of it was a balcony. So not only did Bear feel like he could fall down the stairs, but he also felt like he could fall through the office area too. Eventually, his fears went away. He was the love of my life, the best dog I could ever ask for. He passed at 11 years old. My family and I miss him very much. Seeing his eyes widen and running away was so funny. Here he is one of the biggest dogs in the world being scared of stairs. It was kind of funny at the time. Because he's this giant livestock Guardian dog, he could literally eat a person whole but stairs was the one thing he got scared of 😂. All of our bedrooms were upstairs eventually I think that's what got him to go up the stairs because he is a livestock Guardian dog and it's their job to watch their family. I am glad you were patient with Shadow and you showed him not to be scared of the stairs. R.I.P Bear and Shadow ❤🥹.

I had a rescue like Ivy who could get out of anything. When we would get home from work, we would have messages from neighbors, he could open windows, and doors, climb like a monkey, and he finally did get hit by a car. He healed from the car but never stopped trying to escape. We would take him on very long off-leash runs every day, swimming, everything trying to make him so tired he would not want to escape, but until he was 13, he never stopped. We loved him dearly, but he was a chore for the family.

A case caused by the trauma of abuse like this is such an important one. Not just for Ivy herself but to show the world how to confront and overcome residual fear and get a happy new life. At the beginning the dad seemed so certain Ivy couldn't be helped. At the end I think I sense a slightly hurt ego at being proved wrong, but far outweighed by happiness for his family and Ivy and respect for Cesar.

I had volunteered to help clear out a yard and crumbling shed for a old gentlemen in my neighborhood when I was in my early 20's. When we got the door open, there were several wasp nests. Black ones, yellow jackets, and things. We needed a couple of the yard tools in that shed, and didn't have a choice. Everyone else was terrified of them, or allergic, so I volunteered to go in and get them. The others couldn't believe it, and wanted to put tons of layers on me. I declined. Stopped and did meditation breathing and calming for several minutes, kept breathing that way as I went in and out of the shed getting the tools. I explained same concept Cesar does in this video. Relaxed, calm energy keeps the wasps calm. If i move slowly and easily they move slowly and easily. If they fly at my face at hover I pause, let them look at me, and once they moved I moved. I had a couple land on me to check me out, but they weren't buzzing with aggression at all. They were curious.

Dear Cesar, it just so happened less than 5 minutes ago I told my husband to let me know when he was going to start using a hand staple gun. I told my dog Kiwi to go inside because I know she does not like the sound and will jump our fence. She went potty, I thought she was going to come back to come inside, but instead she hopped no sooner than I said it. I’m so glad that I came across this video so I can start working on her behavior. Aside from this she is a wonderful dog. My son rescued her from a very large ditch that is one block away from our home. She was trying to cling onto a board because it had a lot of water in it. He was able to get in and pull her out. I have a feeling that this is the root of the cause. I can leave the gate door wide open and Kiwi nor Juno will walk out if I am there to redirect them. Without fail, after watching your videos I have been very successful training my dogs. ❤. With all that said, I also have a Blue Heeler mix who loves to take walks, but for some reason she always gets very nervous when we put her harness on. Juno has never been traumatized because we have had her from the day she turned 6 weeks old. I’ve tried everything possible to get her to trust the harness. Once we do get it on her, she starts shivering and she freezes up for a minute and will begin walking. I have always put her on the harness because she has pulled out of her collar before. My fear is that she will not find her way home and get hurt or lost. Kiwi on the other hand does come back after she’s been out. We will also bring her back in as soon as she gets out. I would love and appreciate it if you have any videos that can teach me how to get Juno how not to be afraid of her harness. ❤

It must be hard for Craig to live in this household - I feel his pain. No wonder the dog wants out. I loved the way Ivy gave Cesar a good hill session (must have taken him back to his days doing athletics). Such a great dog - I still find it hard to understand how a human can hurt such an animal (shoot it with a gun), very sad. You can see that Cesar did not want to let Ivy go home because he got attached to her.

I like how you explained everything to Wendy (the young woman?) and encouraged her. You usually explain things better to the younger ones than us older ones. It's more helpful for me to hear the explanations that you give the younger ones. It makes more sense, in my opinion. We moved many years ago for just a few years and had to adapt to everything that entails: new environment, new people, new situations, etc. My mantra for to my kids about our dog was what I learned from you forever ago: a tired dog is a happy dog, a happy dog is a good dog. That conquered more than half of his adjustment issues to that new place and was very helpful in the next place we lived as well. Thank you. You do more for us humans than you think.

I think that's the first time I've seen Cesar allow a dog to walk in front of him, I learned that by allowing a timid dog to walk in front it helps give them confidence, which is why I allow my little dog to do that and it has worked, but if she becomes worried over something then I calmly bring her back to my side and become pack leader to assure her I'm watching out

Tip from a dog walker, all dogs can get out of a harness if they want to! Also, harnesses encourage pulling

Like 90% of the others in my area walk their dogs on the harness. Its so bizarre. Maybe thats why people seem to walk their dogs like twice a season. Me and my old boy walk and run so much even at his age.

I see almost everyone with a harness now. It’s sad, and usually (nearly always) they are terrible leash pullers! Retractable leashes don’t help either. We used just a basic choke chain with our Doberman and it was more than adequate.

Exactly. I have a harness for my dog, but only use it while travelling in a car. For walks I use a simple leather collar on her and the foster dog has her martingale collar

Many years ago my younger self wanted to adopt a dog, but the rescue required all adopters to sign a commitment saying they would not use collars, only harnesses or head halters. I was so mad. I ended up not using that resuce, but the sad truth is so many people who don't know better are going to adopt from places like that and think they are compassionate and everyone else is cruel.

I have a small pup prone to traceal collapse so I use a harness to avoid her neck. But yes you are right. They can get out if they want to. When I first brought her home she got out of so many of them. Now that she is pass her 333 she allows it stay on for walks 😂😂

We had a beloved Chocolate Lab who was 3 when we got him. He was scared to walk on our floor thru the kitchen to get to the doggie door. We bought a series of rugs which he used to go thru the kitchen. We removed 1 rug per week and he was fine as long as he had another to go to. Finally, we were able to get rid of the last rug and he had no problem after that. We lost him to doggie heaven last summer at 13 years. He is so very missed.
