Excellent video. Have a Cessna 205, great plane flys just like a 182. Just add 5 knots on approach vs the 182. Due to the short production run, there is very little info online about the 205. The 205 has the nose gear integrated with the engine mount and is great for off airport or rough airports.

You’re turning the wrong way on your rolling starts! Think about it. You have to hold right rudder on takeoff to track straight and counteract P factor. If you taxi to the end, and turn left you are lightening the right rudder pressure, adding some left rudder and the natural P factor torque will help you around the corner and give you more inertia.
@motoadveBackcountry1824 жыл бұрын
You are right, but I dont feel there is a performance issue, I am more interested in not clipping the fence with the wing or tail, when turning right I can see them a lot closer.
@New2Me170B Жыл бұрын
I find it easier to end up on target turning to the right. A lot of the times the p-factor on a left turn will cause an over shoot, then you’re mashing the right pedal to get straight again. Turn the right and just ease off the right rudder. If I’m just whipping around to turn and taxi I turn to the left for the reason you stated, since I’m coming off the power instead of going full. To each their own, though.

I fly a 206 in skydiving and it is a beast, I have also flown a 182 and 205, also in skydiving and I think that the 182 and 205 have poor elevator authority at low speeds when empty, I.e. CG way forward, the 206 having a bigger elevator has much more authority at the expense of heavier control forces. I love flying any plane but also wanted to share my 2 cents on the matter. Keep it safe!

Beautiful flying 182. That 182 comes off the ground faster than any 182 I've ever seen in 50 years, other than the Wren 460 or Peterson Katmai. Professional flying, and you guys have your act together and really know your airplanes. Very Impressive!!!!!

Thank you for the comparison. I still prefer the Cessna 182 over the 205 for my flying needs. Fly safe and stay safe

Thanks for the Interesting compassion. I've owned a couple of 205s, several 206's but preferred the 1966 F model T210 as it had 285 hp and three ft more flap span. It also has Fries style ailerons that seem to provide better low speed roll authority, and was at least 20kts faster than the 206 on the same fuel. Lightly loaded without any STOL Mods I could land and take off as short as a T206 with a STOL kit.

Would honestly love to see what you can do with a stol modded Cherokee or any of the other old low wings hehe, I think people oftenly shy away from them too quickly, for short grass fields like those I've seen some video's with some amazing results out of Mooney's and Cherokees. Edit: looking at those specs and those of pa-28-235 B It really should work well, more fpm climb, shorter take off roll at 600ft (tho most Cherokees are around 725 to 800ft take off roll. They do generally have around 49 to 55kts stall speeds ditry as well.

Short field Mooney? That is the opposite of what I was told when going to a Mooney meetup, all of the pilots were talking about how much they sucked for landing on grass or dirt. As well as mentioning that you wanted a really long runway cause they needed a long time to slow down and land, that you could bounce down the whole runway with just a little to much speed...? I was really interested in a Mooney until I went to that event and they all said once you go Mooney you never look back but they were all commuters going from airport to airport looking for long distance speed.

Are you familiar with a YT channel named Skywagon University? It is run by a man by the name of Mark Pilkington of Placerville, California. He is very knowledgeable about Cessnas as he sells almost nothing else. He hosts his channel and goes into great detail off the top of his head, of the ins and outs of cessnas. He tends to buy and sell a lot of 182, 205/206, 180/185, 210s and Cardinals both fixed and RG. I think you'll find his channel very informative.

Do both aircraft have the same landing flaps. 40 for the 205, 30 or 40 for the 182?

Excellent video. I think the Cessna 175 and 182 are the work horses of the Cessna fleet. I have not flown the 205. Have flown the 206 which is a tank in a good way but loaded, in my opinion, though capable of unimproved fields, not what I would call a short field aircraft. In this comparison, I'll take the 182 for 90 percent of my flying. Now,,,if only my bank account would let me have both....

I wonder how the 205 would perform with a sportsman’s stol, vg’s and better prop. Does the 260 horse 470 warrant a more aggressive propeller? It was hard to tell because of the different angles, but it almost looked like the 205 wasn’t using the same degree of flap on takeoff. Probably just the camera angle. Great video, you don’t get to see a lot of 205 stol footage.
@kimiles1 Жыл бұрын
My 205 has Horton cuffs and fences, flap gap seals and VGs. I run an aluminum 3-blade (pre-scimitar) Hartzell. Everything except the VGs was done by previous owner. The VGs were the best investment I’ve made in the airplane, along with BAS harnesses. Standard conditions give me +/- 1000fpm with three adults and full inboard tanks (60gal). VGs give me full control authority all the way to the touchdown, eliminating that characteristic vague 205 wallow in the roundout. I’m about 100hrs past TBO on the IO470 now, but it just refuses to quit, compressing in the 70s all around with clean oil analysis, so the IO550/MT 3-blade combo I have in mind keeps getting put off. For my mission, this is the perfect do-it-all airframe.
