CEX Trade Is WASTING Money & PS5 Has NO Games

You've made me get into the habbit of going into CEX and buying games for a console I haven't owned since I was 6. Right now it's just games I remember playing, but it feels like a slippery slope

CEX calculate their cash/trade values based on their stock levels. So if you have a cheap game that they don't have in stock, they're going to be offering you a lot more than £0.01. I have MW2 2019 on PS4 that they were offering like £6 for a few months ago but now that they have much less stock of it they're offering £12.

Playing xbox 360 games with FPS boost and/or zero loading times is worth it. Plus Xbox One games. And then if there's a handful of Series X games, that's a bonus.

When I was growing up I had to suddenly leave the family home to move into a much smaller space. This meant no room for my DVD and game collection. I had to leave behind literally hundreds of DVDs, around 100 games, and over 100 books. I didn’t have a car to transport the games and DVDs to CEX (or its equivalent at that time) at the time, so they almost certainly went to a landfill. This comment is supporting the idea that people will trade in games for a penny rather than throwing it in the bin, because I’d definitely have let the shop have them for free rather than seeing the whole collection go in the bin. It still makes me a little sad to think about losing all that, but the good news is that I’m in a position now to get everything back.

The local tip where I used to live had a “reuse shop” where you could donate DVDs and games, I even bought a ps3 from there

RE4 does have a PS4 version, I played that on my PS4 Pro. The only PS5 game I can think of that isn’t on PS4 or a remake that you don't seem to own is Returnal.

Selling on FBMP is a pain in the arse. I took in some vita, ps2 and ds games and now have a $300 voucher. Couldve got more if I used ebay but would have taken ages and have been a hassle with posting it all.

Books is a good comparison. A family member once got me a Twilight hardback graphic novel from a local jumble sale for £1. Not my cup of tea at all. Turns out the book can sell for between £50 and £100 on Ebay (even more in the USA). We all specialise. My dad knows his postage stamps. My mum knows her postcards. I know my modern/retro/overseas games. It would make for a pretty boring/chaotic world if everyone knew the worth of everything.

collecting is so hard, i don’t think people realise it’s basically a full time job checking sites and checking stores. i got a photo book in a museum recently that is basically extinct. £41 on the day. last sold for £300. but that only happens when you check constantly and are willing to be disappointed 99 percent of the time 😂

I think its on both ps4 and 5, same with xbox series s/x and the earlier 'ones' because of the console drought during the covid period. If you remember, yes the consoles came out 5 years ago, but proper stock was available like 2.5 years after release when the industry recovered. By then digital media was the peoples choice because they were locked at home.

I can't quite get my head round someone who'll choose CEX over a charity shop. If I have something I think might be worth something but I still want to donate it I'll take it to a charity shop that will actually price it a bit higher but not so high it pisses people off.

I don’t get the hate with remakes and remasters… people moan about game preservation, but then moan when companies remake stuff. I do get games like the last of us, which was clearly a cash grab, but overall, I think it’s a good thing. We defo need more new games tho.

Cex is weird as more bog standard thing's that sold millions dry up they'll always somehow find more as people just take em in to clean out. I think anything niche now though is never touching them though with the rise of the ease of online selling

I do agree with you on why people take them to CEX and trade them in for 0.01 because there are people who would do that haha but you never see the commonest titles in CEX, when you are collecting a full set you can never find the really obscure cheap titles as they mostly stock popular titles, and it's a reflection on social aspects of these titles, if they not popular they don't get traction so CEX and other buyers don't want unpopular games. I mean you don't see ballerina on the Wii in CEX ans if really bad unwanted titles do pop up they are usually European and not UK Pal versions but yea you are right in what you say about people not caring and just getting rid and thanx for the shout out 😊

as much as I really understand peoples point of views with the remakes, I actually really enjoy these remakes to see amazing graphics and improved frame rates on these older games the last of us part one might be one of my favourite games I've played off all time and I think the new graphics and RTX had an influence on that , just a shame it seems to be making a negative impact on the development of new games. keep the videos coming!

There are plenty of games on PS5, you just have to know where to look. I have been buying heaps of indie games recently, all physical, most of which were from VGP in Canada. Good prices and free shipping (if over $80 CAD). While most of the games could technically run on a PS4, they are only PS5 or switch releases.

PS5 exclusives are games that are only on PS5 and no where else, not on PS4 not on PC not on Xbox and not on Switch. There are like what, 2 maybe 3 genuine PS5 exclusives after 4 years of this gen.. Though nowadays PS exclusives are time limited since after a couple years they release on PC. But right now the only genuine PS5 exclusives I can think of is Spiderman 2, Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade. The rest are either on PS4 or PC by now, like GoW Ragnarok, Horizon FW, TLoU remake etc.

I agree with games on the PS5. I have 6 ps5 games, 4 are remakes or remasters, whereas I have around 50 ps4 games. I hate the way you have to download the full game to ps5, the disc is just a license.

I agree with the point that there isn't many original titles for the PS5 and whilst it might seem like a cop out to just keep pumping out remakes I'm not going to be mad because the few original titles which exist are shocking. It's sad to say that there isn't a new game that gets released these days which actually blows me away and more often than not it's the remakes that actually impress me the most. (P.S who else desperately wants a Dead Space 2 remake?)

Do you think CeX will ever go out of business? In Ireland, we’ve almost no more game stores anymore. Seems to be everything is closing off. We have GAME, but it’s part of sports direct in a very small section. If I’d want to buy new games, I’d have to go to Smyths Toy Store, Curry’s or another electronics store but it’s very limited. We recently lost Argos in Ireland too so it sucks 👎🏻

If people don't trade to Cex, we wouldn't have Cex. We want places like Cex. Otherwise all trading will be done online. which is crap. Part of the experience is purchasing the game physically. I went to a city 20 miles away in my Scooter to get a PS2 Mortal Kombat game. Was a day out. Was great. Got home and the game didn't work haha. but still. So no I think you're wrong. I think if anything we should encourage trades to Cex. yes you may get less money for games. But I see Cex almost like a rental service for most games. Get a game, complete it, trade it back, get money towards another. Give others access to the game in a physical location.

I don't buy or sell at Cex because the prices are insane. In the case of recent PS5 games forget about it. I can get the game new for less than what they want used. It's insane. I go for the Vinted APP and it's way better. But I get what you say. My brother (non gamer) wanted to throw away all of his childhood sega Genesis games and console because of space hahaha lucky me

PS5 has been getting some legit good games lately but it is still a far cry from the previus generations especially from the ps2-ps3 era. In Terms of new ip it is almost none existant when compared to them. I am hoping that it is more or less sony and the companies have given up on it and are focusing the majority on ps6 instead and the ps5 is more or less a stop gap era console. if not than they are finished.

I saw a video the other day from TVM he was talking about the the fact that the ps4 and ps5 discs will probably be worthless in 20-30 years because them games seem to have a tiny proportion of the game and the rest is downloaded so if the studio goes bust or shuts the servers down is game preservation worth it on ps4 and 5 should we only really collect on 1,2 and 3 instead as things seem to be moving to digital only
