CFL 1820 Sound recording

Geluidsopname van een CFL 1800 diesellokomotief. De opname is na bewerking geupload in een ESU Loksounddecoder welke in een Märklin 1800 is geplaatst.

These engines give indeed a wonderful sound. I like it even more when the cooling fans are switched on. Because the sound of the cooling fans together with the screaming generator gives a nice harmony. Too bad the locomotive was cold started, so the fans didn't switch on at all.

At this moment there are about 10 locomotives in service. Over the year 2008 I have seen 9 of them (1802,1806,1807,1809,1812,1815,1816,1817,1820) on duty. The last time I was in Luxemburg was in September.

Prachtig, dat zoiets kan bij de CFL dat zijn aardige lui op dat gebied en ze doen niet zo moeilijk als NS. Probeer dit maar eens bij de NS te regelen, ik wens die persoon veel succes dat lukt voor geen meter bij hun. Heel stoer filmpje!

The 567 engine (non turbocharged) is for me the best sounding diesel engine although it's by far not as powerful as the latest 710 engine that is used in class 66 and other modern diesel locomotives, which of course is logical. The first 567 was developed in 1938 and the first 710 in 1984 :-) I hope the 1800 will stay in service for a few more years.

I think it's the generator. You can also hear this sound in the NOHAB/AFB diesels and GM/EMD F-series (especially when you are in the engine room) . This locomotive is an improved version of them.

Ja dat waren de goede tijden, helaas zijn ze in België uit de reguliere dienst genomen en wordt er nu voornamelijk met Traxx gereden op die spoorlijn. In Luxemburg rijden ze gelukkig nog. Ze krijgen zelfs nog revisies zodat ze nog een aantal jaren mee kunnen!

Ik vraag me ook af of de hedendaagse dieselloks het zo lang volhouden als deze loks welke inmiddels de 44 jaar gepasseerd zijn...

EMD 567 series "normally aspirated" (engine driven blower). The whine you hear is the supercharger. Two stroke diesels need an external air blower, supercharger or turbocharger, to run.

This video was shot with Thomson (JVC) Camera which I lent from a friend. I don't know the type. My recent videos (since April 2007) are shot with a Sony DCR HC27.

Grote klasse! Herinneringen aan een vakantie in de bossenbij Vaals waar je de SNCB diesels de tunnel hoorde ingaan. Hetzelfde griezelige loeien. Je hoorde het wel, maar (door de bomen) zag je het niet :)

16-567C engine with 645 parts 567C sounds different compare it with sncb 52 video.This is a gp38-2 sound

That's correct but I thought that there were also 567 engines with turbo chargers in the United States.

That`s correct. GP20, GP30 and GP/SD35 are powered by 16-567D Turbo.
