The American vs. Canadian football fighting aside ... Being a PROUD American ... The CFL is about as good as it gets. If the 'This Is Our League' video doesn't get you choked up nothing will. I am fortunate enough to have seen almost everyone of the players highlighted. For me, I love football ... American and Canadian. Each has its own place in history, each has a place in the hearts of those who love the game and more importantly ... each game is precious in its own way. Long live the CFL!

All these years later and this is still the best commercial I've ever seen. I saw it for the first time in late November 2008. At the time I had absolutely no interest in the CFL at all; but I watched this and decided to check out the Grey Cup a few days later (96th - Calgary vs Montreal at Olympic Stadium) and I've never looked back! I really wish the CFL would continue to run this every so often (and update it to include Ottawa) because it's simply perfect and incredibly stirring.

I have been watching the CFL for over 50 years. As a young boy I marveled at that special duo of Lancaster and Reed 23 and 34. I loved the Riders.. they were always my Team even though Toronto was my hometown. It is a special connection with this game, the snow, the mud, the elements.. we play outside.. it is part of the rush of the game! Most players make modest salaries and play because they love to play! It is an amazing league and every year at this special time.. I think of all the finals and Grey Cups I have attended and the memories, the cold, the snow, the triple layers of clothes.. it has been sweet. Tomorrow, another Eastern Final in Toronto.. and hopefully the Boatmen pull it out. Pull together - let the good ship wander down to Hamilton next week.. here's hoping. Go Argos #12

I would add that there is drama in all football, be it CFL, NFL, NCAA, Arena, soccer Rugby, GAA, or Aussie Rules. You just need to have a great game. In addition to Sunday's game, see Super Bowl XLII, the 2006 FIFA World Cup final, the 2002 Fiesta Bowl, the 2003 Rugby World Cup Final and the 2009 AFL Grand Final for other examples.

One reason why I've always like the CFL is because they've always be open to diversity especially since they reached out to black players back in the 1940's & 50's. They really embraced the black quarterbacks when it was very difficult for them to become starters back in the 1960's & 70's. I hope the make a film about the history of black football players in the CFL especially when they were signal callers back in the 1970's.

Great video. Too many people in this country are blind to this nation's great sporting heritage. Hopefully, footage like this will get some people to rediscover their own country. This really is the last pro sports league Canada has left. Any league is only as great as the support it receives. The CFL's return to prominence depends on Canadians. It will be what we make of it. If we want it to be culturally central to our society again, all we need to do is get behind it.

Wow, it's like listening to 5 year olds on the playground argue. The CFL is a fun product, very entertaining. Simple fact though; the CFL is not a "faster" game, its played on a bigger field and the average size of a CFL D-line and linebacking core is significantly smaller then that of an NFL team, thus there are more scoring opportunities in the CFL. All though the CFL is only 50% import, we know that is only by rule. I think what Garrett1240 was referring to was the fact that roughly 75% of the starting skilled position players are usually American (including all 8 starting QB's). The sport is bigger in America because American's like and support the sport more then they do in Canada, it has nothing to do with "population". Just look at the NHL, I wish there more cities like Edmonton in the States when it came to hockey, Kevin Lowe has shit on them for years with bad product after bad product yet they passionately support the game (I say this as a compliment to Edmontonians and their passion for hockey). Well you will find the same passion for football if you go to any Southern State, this is where the true love of football is found. Small town USA where the whole damn town goes to high school games, little league, and NCAA where the school is the biggest building in the City and the stadium sells out every Saturday regardless of the record. This is true American football, the only atmosphere that even slightly compares would be that of Saskatchewan, but even then its a far cry from that found though out the South and Midwest. The CFL is fun to watch, but don't fool yourself, it is a minor league when compared to the NFL, like it or not, money attracts bigger talent. The best in the world play in the NFL, including to top Canadian born players. The CFL is home to those players that are skilled enough to play pro-ball but simply lack the size and speed to compete at the NFL level, this is why there is not much lateral movement, typically once in the CFL, they remain in the CFL (and before everyone jumps on me, do not bring up players from 20 years ago, and I fully recognize that there are still some that make the transition such as Cameron Wake).

As long as ignorant morons like yourself continue to deny history, and lack the ability to intelligently and logically defend their position or at least refute my points, I will continue to "troll".
@TheReady1410 жыл бұрын
All of your arguments saying that the NFL is the more superior league and what not were followed by points that had nothing to do with the NFL at all. You said that americans hold numerous starting positions among CFL teams, but that doesn't say anything on how the NFL is a better game. The correct argument would have been to say americans are better at football. However, even that would be false or heading in the direction to be false as several of the past years during World Football Championship tournaments Canadian junior teams have beat the US (a team comprised of all top rated recruits). Also, many of your arguments are regarding the money involved, the atmosphere of the NFL vs CFL and everything else surrounding the game but the game itself. The all time passing leaders in passing yards in professional football (this including NFL, CFL, USFL) are ranked as followed 1. Anthony Calvillo (CFL) 2. Damon Allen (CFL) 3. Warren Moon (CFL/NFL) 4. Brett Favre (NFL). Some other arguments that I could state that would back up that the NFL are CFL are two different styles of game. Ricky Williams being once classified as a top runningback in the NFL before running into off field issues couldn't produce in the CFL. In fact even if he were to remain healthy the season he was up here for, he would have just gotten passed the 1000 yards rushing mark if he kept on pace with his performance. Troy Smith (current Montreal quarterback and former heisman trophy winner) went through a huge adjusment to the canadian game because of the different style of quarterback needed. You are overlooking the fact that with a wider field certain routes become a longer much more difficult pass to make. A 10 yard out route for example becomes a much more longer throw with the wider hashmarks in the CFL than the NFL. As a player who plays wide receiver myself, hashmarks are used as a marker to lineup or assist with lining up in case you were unaware of that. Needless to say, the times will change when Canadians get given more respect when it comes to football. Oh and the Canadian players you classify as being "the best" players we have to offer that are in the NFL are only there because they were able to go to an NCAA school. This is really the only real chance any Canadian has to crack the NFL although there have been some recent exceptions from Canadian schools.
@canukmark09610 жыл бұрын
Where to begin. First off, the world junior championship are not even close to the best America has to offer. I've looked at the American rosters and you will be lucky to find a 4 star athlete. Furthermore, Canada has won 1 of the 3 world championship games, they got their asses handed to them in the other 2 games. Second, all the top passing QB's that your referring to are (surprise surprise) American, which supports my original comments. Do they have to adjust to the CFL game? Of course, but it sure doesn't seem to take them long. Either way, you pointing out the success of AMERICAN born QB's who have set records in the CFL is just further evidence of American's dominance in the game. CFL QB's set these records for several reason; they enjoy the privilege of smaller secondary players, a general smaller defensive line which does not put near the pressure on the pocket that would be seen in an NFL game, and of course an end zone that is more than double the size of the NFL. They also play 2 more regular season games then an NFL QB. Suggesting that it is actually harder to throw on a bigger field is in no way statistically supported. A simple check of any given game will clearly show that a bigger field of play has a direct correlation to QB success (that goes for both leagues) Obviously you just read my response and failed to read any of the prior comments. My original argument was to show that; 1, American's are not only better at gridiron football (CFL & NFL), but that the game in general enjoys far greater support south of the 49th. Your most ignorant comment was to suggest that the Canadians who make it into the NCAA are somehow the recipients of luck and that NCAA coaches are somehow missing all this secret un-tapped talent up there. They were picked up by and NCAA school because they were the best at the prep level up there and are the best that Canada has to offer. This is not meant to be a knock on Canada or the CFL. The fact is that the majority of top athletes in Canada elect to play hockey for the most part, therefore the top Canadian athletes are found in the NHL. Whereas in America, football draws the top talent athletes. I'm sure if football had the same popularity and youth participation in Canada as it did in the U.S, then you would see a more equal result.
@herrfaust20207 жыл бұрын
As you said, the CFL has a bigger field, and NFL have bigger players. That's why the CFL is a faster game: more space! Need more proof? Of course you do! Compare offensive stats (i.e. yardage gained). The rest, I probably agree with you on, though.

CFL/NFL debate will never go away. the CFL is your game. The NFL is our game. You have your rules and we have ours. That is what makes them different and unique all on there own.
