When I was just an itty bitty kid, my favourite song was "Cornbread and Buttermilk" sung by Little Jimmy Dickens. It was on a 78 rpm record that my parents had. That song stuck with me for nearly 70 years. In my opinion old country/real country is the best. There are still a few good country songs being recorded today but most of it should be called something else because what they call "country" today is not "country music".

You know I start listening to country music I the late 80 's and 90's.My friend who I worked with and hung around was from W.V. He got me into hunting up here in Mich.So we had the country music station on ,and I grew to like it.I don't like the so called country rap music of today it's terrible. So I love Bill Andersons show, and all the older stars. Actually in the 60's I remember Conway Twitty had a TV show and I also heard Charlie Pride sing back then and I really liked the way both of them sang. We'll I was into rock and roll back then ,but that isn't the same anymore .So I'm glad Bill and his guests keep old country alive So I'm from Mich ,and I say love y'all. Y'all come back now here

I'm 54 years old and I have been referred to as "The Music Man" because I've been in the business since my freshman year in Hugh school when I was hired by the local radio station. I was a radio DJ, a private Mobile DJ, a corporate DJ, a nightclub DJ and eventually bought into ownership of some nightclubs. My fondest memories are singing along to those old gospel albums of my Grandma's, like the Gaither Trio (Bill, Gloria & Danny), Blackwood Brothers, Happy Goodman Family, Cathedrals. Then my mommas albums rounded out my base of traditional with Loretta Lynn, Ernest Tubb, Hank Williams Sr, Conway Twitty, and moms favorite Johnny Cash. I have remained faithful to those roots although I've had to play and promote the newest trend. My greatest joy from working in the clubs is when I became a booking agent. Nowadays they call us "talent buyers". My first act that I booked was Gary Stewart. He sold out and he did every time I booked him after that. I booked Moe Bandy, Johnny Lee, who still holds the record for the longest concert at 4 hours and 20 minutes (most concerts average 90 minutes), Billy Joe Royal, T Graham Brown, Ray Price, Merle Haggard (3 times) and the one artist that totally tilts the machine of vocal talent and my favorite singer of all time, Mr Gary Gene Watson. He is one of a kindm I dubbed Gene as being "A Songs Best Friend" while he is respectfully called "The Singer's Singer" throughout the industry. He still sings every song in the same original key as he did all those years ago. These country family reunion shows really do an awesome job with documenting tradition, the music, the stories between artists, the songwriters and new up and coming artists that respect tradition. Artists like Mo Pitney, Dawn Sears, along with Vince Gill, Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, George Strait still keeping it real with fiddle, steel & keys. I bought a bumper sticker years ago in the Ernest Tubb Record Shop that still hangs in my office. It reads "There's Only Two Kinds Of Music : Country and Western" .

I will not listen to this modern day "country music"! Luckily, there are still a few radio stations that play the older country music and there are some of those streaming things that stick to traditional country. Thank God for that! Iam 84 yrs young and hope the traditional sound holds out until I'm gone.
