Cape Fear River Watch Executive Director Dana Sargent and Riverkeeper Kemp Burdette speak to the Environmental Management Commission public hearing on PFAS groundwater standards on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
It has been more than seven years and North Carolina has more PFAS contamination, and more data on our PFAS contamination than any other state - yet, there are no limits, no laws, no regulations. Until now - maybe.
The Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) has proposed limits on three PFAS in groundwater including GenX but the Environmental Management Commission (EMC) needs to approve this. And some need convincing!!
This is the FIRST step toward STOPPING PFAS AT THE SOURCE and will pave the way for standards on surface water like the Cape Fear River.
