Domino Pyramid Animation, made with Blender, rendered with Cycles.
32x32 Pyramid that contains 22.352 dominos, virtual world record! ;)
sound design made with real dominos (in a smaller scale)
music: ending of Clair de Lune by Claude Debussy
rendered mostly with Sheep it, average of 20min/frame (GTX 660 TI)!
bake time ~6h (x6 1090T)
1920x800 (2.39:1), 24fps
took about 2 months to finish

I'm attempting a project similar to this, but I'm having trouble replicating the physics. What are your Rigid Body settings, if you don't mind me asking?

Hey, the dominos have the rigid body collision shape "box" and a friction of .7. Mass is 1.0.

whats interesting is: the largest domino pyramid in 2024 stands at 34x34! . . so 2 layers larger than this maby some day one will build a 40x40 domino pyramid altho concidering that requires allmost 50,000 dominoes, it will likely be a long time before that happens

***** Hey danke! :) Das "Bauen" der Pyramide hat ungefähr 30 Minuten gedauert, war ja im Grunde nur simples Duplizieren. Der Rest um so eine CG-Animation zu erstellen dauert allerdings erheblich länger, war ein Projekt über ca 2 Monate. ;)

Pyro Maniack Yeah it has a video editor, but it is not primarily a video editor, instead a complete open source 3D graphics and animation software :) blender.org

Pyro Maniack I use Blender for about 6 years, the project itself took about 2 months to finish (with several breaks). Check out blenderguru & blendercookie, they have great tutorials but keep in mind that it's a pretty complex (and thus awesome) software that definitively needs some time to get decent results with.

Davius.12 productions Sound design was made with real dominos that I recorded (of course in a smaller scale) and then mixed together in post ;)
