Aren't all these graded sell through VHS low value? Sell through VHS was known to use the cheapest tape that did not last more than a couple of viewings compared to rental which used quality tape? I just don't understand how these sell through VHS have any value.

They saw a new way to make easy money....thats all....Grading Sell-Through tapes is a joke. Sell-Through tapes were made in 100 thousands of copies or even more and recorded on the cheapest tapes the companies could get their hands on, and only meant to be played 2-4 times. Rental tapes were recorded on quality tapes as they were meant to be played many times and all sort of obscure movies came out back then on rental(not sell-through)...many in not so many copies. and its the obscure tapes...often horror and exploitation movies, that were released by obscure companies that dont even exist anymore, thats rare.....not the big hit movies. Here in Europe we laugh about this tape grading shit......we only collect ex-rental tapes as they are the ones that are rare. This more seems like a scam to make money for the grading companies....Hell even if you have a sealed tape, you have no idea what condition the tape inside is in. It could be moldy as hell and you wont even know it. to me its all just a bad joke.

Not sure if you saw there is also an uproar with graded comic books right now, as expensive comic books in high grade were getting carefully cracked open, swapped out with restored/qualified comics, and then sent to get re-holdered. Hundreds have been found so far. Like you said, how would we know when it comes to moldy tapes inside?

All the tapes were made equal the rental are the same as non rental. Don't know why you think they are longer lasting lol ridiculous they are the same tape.

@@Steger13 Not here in Europe..........Rental tapes were made on quality tapes because they were meant to be played many times.... Sell-through tapes were made on the cheapest quality tape you could get, as the companies only thought people would play them 3-4 times.Not sure why you didnt know that. Maybe in the US they recorded on same cheap tapes, they didnt over here. and why do you need to laugh and call it ridiculous ???? Should I insult you as well ??? You clearly dont know what your talking about. Ive been collecting tapes for many many years, so I know what Im talking about. Thank you.

Do they test the playability of the tapes or is the grading on the cover/box and any included things like stickers? What next? Are you going to grade OTA tapes too based on content? If so, I have a couple thousand here. Must be worth Millions, eh? Tapes do deteriorate. I have a lot of tapes now 40 years old or more that are unplayable as they have sticky shed syndrome and have flaked. Attempts to recover the contents which is some cases are one of a kind have failed up to now. Grading tapes...yeesh!
