The Extrude, Inset, and Knife tools are three of the most important ones in Blender!
Extrude is used to create new geometry by extending the selected faces, edges, or vertices. Inset is used to create a new face inside the selected face, while the Knife tool is used to cut edges or vertices on a mesh and create new geometry.
The hotkeys you'll want to remember are:
E: Extrude
I: Inset
K: Knife
When inside the tool's mode, you'll get several other hotkeys that you can use to change the tool's behavior, either in the status bar or in the tool header.

I've been patiently following along your tutorials rather than diving straight in as I am so tempted to do, and it is really paying off. Thanks for these excellent tutorials. ps, I laughed at "'k' for k-nife" XD

I started in Maya, then went to C4D, and the interface for blender had me very confused, but these series of tutorials are making a difference and now I can apply all my previous knowledge to a new software. They are very well built and go so deep that they are filling holes in my learning process I didn't know I had.

Having to select the geometry first with bisect makes it more powerful. I can think of many cases where I'd only want to cut one part but use other geometry as reference to where my cuts go.

I know a lot of this stuff already, but I'm going through this curriculum to help fill the holes in my knowledge. One thing I noticed from these videos so far, it is way better to learn all these tools through the menu buttons first, and then learn the hot keys. It just feels way more intuitive that way and sticks to my brain a lot better. Thanks for putting in the time for these great basics lessons.

It's great to show where the tool is first. Then shortcut. It's useful for beginner.. I wonder some other people tutorial use all shortcuts and they say it's for beginner.

I like this series although I'm no beginner 👍 It's great you showed the Inset tool in this lesson, I think it's often forgotten even by a lot of YT tutors, I often see them use Extrude and Scale where Inset would be the better choice. It's just a pity you did not take the chance to show the Depth option of the Inset tool aa well which you enable by holding CTRL.

beginner here whats the difference between the Depth option and just extruding the face? tried it out and I don't see much of a difference except for efficiency but I'm probably wrong

Still enjoying these, and still wish I'd found these tutorials first. Now if only someone would do the same thig for FreeCAD for when I need to build mechanical objects for 3D printing. Using Blender for organic and other objects where parametric modeling is too cumbersome.

Hello! I have completed a model of a boat, but I'm encountering difficulty solidifying it. While scaling worked well for most of the boat, the front end is problematic, where it's becoming pointed. The bow's walls are intersecting, and ideally, the front of the boat should have a smoothly pointed and smoothed-out appearance, like a roof. I've consulted numerous experts, but none have been able to provide a solution. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Sincerely, Matej L.

🤔 with the knife tool one can not snap perpendicular right? angel is always in world grid. We can display the angle but not cut perpendicular. I like the tool in Maya :)
