This is a great animation for more than just how well it's done. What really makes a great piece of art is how it gets you to think and see your own interpretation. This could be about addiction, this could be about living life to its fullest, this could be about anything you believe it is. And that's the beauty of it.

I can see this in three way 1) life with freedom 2) addiction 3) corruption
@AB-xx6gy4 жыл бұрын
can you explain the three?
@PewPewBadaBoom4 жыл бұрын
@@AB-xx6gy freedom is of the guy that is already surfing out there. addiction is represented by over-freedom, as they surf too much that they rust. corruption is the system's view as well as the traditional(obedient) people's (07 bot in the film, you see it shake its head after it failed to keep 06 from going). "corruption" might also refer to 07 bot's hesitation to keep working at the end, as influenced by 06 the freedom-seeker. I have a different interpretation for 2 and 3: I see that "addiction" as the freedom seekers' vow of "whatever it takes" since they prefer freedom despite possible harm. I see the "corruption" as fear/doubt. I think that 07 bot represents the traditional people that are shaken, but fears to reach out for freedom. you can see it wanting to go surfing at the end, but it has never actually done it (shown by clock turning and rusting at the end), because it fears that the system would disprove. (the word "corruption" is subjective for the system and the subordinate, of course. this doesn't change.)

I find pairing this one ("Finito") and another animated short called "Clockwork" interesting. They both have the same basic plot: robots work in some vast contraption and some robot(s) get broken, but have very different messages. In "Finito" the workplace is depicted as mind-numbingly dull and pointless and the "broken" robot is one who chooses to neglect work and live life to the hilt by surfing, even though that destroys it (what a cut to the surfing, it just makes you smile). It's got an individualist message about living your life (with an edge that that hedonism might be self-destructive) rather than be a cog in a pointless social machine since we all die anyway (the rusted clock at the end). In "Clockwork" by contrast, the work is depicted as delicate and a bit magical, like the robots themselves, and the story is about a manager robot who very gently and carefully fixes worker robots to keep a huge clock going. In "Clockwork" (which is much quieter) the message is a more collectivist one about how if treated well, everyone can contribute, everyday kindness and satisfaction in cooperation (although there is a faint edge that the robot lives are a bit constrictive and the clock might be pointless maybe?). I liked both a lot it's just interesting.

To those who don't get it: The robots were all being forced to work and bang their head against the wall, but the green robot had enough and he went out to do what he loved the most. Surfing. Even though he died while doing it because of the damage, he made the better choice between being forced to work and enjoying life. He chose the better option.

Personally I think that it's like a metaphor for doing drugs or things in that sort. I think the daily stamping they do is like a normal daily work routine everyone follows and then they go home. But that one dude goes surfing. Even though it might feel amazing and give him the kick to be able to continue working normally it hurts it and the machine begins to become unfunctional. The caring one tries to help in the end to maybe free him from the addiction, but it refuses and continues doing it till death.

I think it is "do what you want with your life". The last bit shows time passing increasingly fast until the clock stops working and start corroding... It gave me a feeling of "in the end it doesn't matter if you do what is expected from you" (so you might as well enjoy what little time you have instead).
@mbartok8 жыл бұрын
thats the message
@TottoG8 жыл бұрын
the moral is its better to die doing the things that give you individualism than wasting your life doing something unfulfilling. the robot felt unfulfilled stamping that stamp day in day out and eventually it had enough and went out to do what it loved, to surf. Even though it ended up killing the robot, which the robot was aware of by its increasing weakness, it comes down to being happy or unhappy and the robot went to be happy

Nah, it's about drug use. Everyone else is functioning member of the society, but there is this one guy who keeps using drugs despite the damage it does to his body. This makes me think of drugs. You get that short moment of empty joy, only trade off your life with it. The coworker who saw him surfing is like the one who witnesses the addiction and tries to help. Drugs can make someone temporarily happy, but it ruins their life because it saps away their health and they obsess over it to the point they decide to shirk their responsibilities.
