The mom got depressed since her daughter had passed at a young age so she found a way to sooth her pain for a little while by doing drugs. But realized that it's not helping her at all and just attacking herself then she found a way to stop and remembered the flower that her and her daughter picked out in the flower fields. Rehabilitation. She got over her addiction.

Heh, sounds familiar. I mean a friend of mine got realy depressed so they started to get addicted of alcohol. Long story short, after they went to a party, they got drunk and somehow mange to demage themselfs pretty bad. But, i tryed to be supportive with them even after the accident. Is not that bad, but they have to stay in bed all day. I hope they get better soon and perhaps after this, they will give up on their addiction. I still visit them whatever i can, but is funny since this animation remaind me of them. I hope you guys are doing ok, but if not just remember that an addiction is not the best way to deal with saddness or depression. Try to live life as well as you can and don't be afraid of what the future holds or don't regret the past. Take care everyone. 😊

A very interesting film, the Mother's struggle feels so real, forced to move on after losing her child, having to fight her addiction, and instead of looking for an easy way out of misery through poppies, she chooses to accept and embrace the grief, thus able to move on. Man, the animation, the flowers being blatant and clear symbolism, this story is so short, but sweet! I was expecting the regular "big strong manly man thirsting over hot feminine woman with personality traits of a snake at best, and then woman dies/leaves for the big strong manly man's character development" story, but, nope, this one is a hopeful and sweet tale of grieving. I like it! I didn't cry, no, I'm too tough for that, I- I didn't cry. Someone was just chopping onions here, I swear.

I feel like the mother was being consumed by her grief (because poppies symbolizes honouring our lost loved ones) and remembering her daughter and allowing herself to live without her daughter is what got her out because she learned how to cope with the grief in a way where she can still live her life. So the poppy symbolizes grief and the daisy symbolizes her daughter and the memories of her.

I think the story went like this. After her father passed from whooping cough she was born. Living far away, the pregnant mother couldn't take her husband so he passed. Later, her daughter caught the same illness, but with no job (from what it seems) she still could not afford medication. She passed away. In the mothers grief she turned to gardening, which her daughter loved and found the poppies. Finding they had medicinal effects after both her husband and daughter passed, abused them, and hallucinated, seeing her daughter while doing so made her realize that while it may have helped them, it was killing her. So, she quit. Replanted her garden with her daughter's favorite flowers, and remembers them in the fields.

I could be wrong here, but I think those might’ve been opium poppies that she was sniffing which is why she was probably hallucinating. So, I think the flowers she and her daughter picked represent fond memories and her sniffing the opium poppies represent her trying to escape reality by basically doing drugs.

When the mom fell to her knees sobbing, I immediately emphasized with her inconsolable grief over losing a loved one. The mind needs an escape from the constant anguish. It can be unbearable. How I see it, the filmmaker chose poppies to represent an escape from grief. But her grief invades that dreamworld and transforms into despair (evil poppy snake). She wakes up from a melancholy state (shock) and realizes her only salvation is finding peace (daisies) in the happy moments (daisy field) she shared with her daughter.

I know this is a completely different theory from drugs but I believe this is a metaphor for the loss of a loved one. When her daughter died and she was surrounded by the flowers they turned into poppies. Poppies are a symbol of remembrance and she remembered how her daughter loved picking flowers with her. However, she was overcome with grief and getting consumed with her memories. When she runs from the poppy monster it seems as though she is trying to stop getting consumed by memories of her daughter and start living again. She is honoring her memory by going out and picking flowers but still living her life.

While agree that abuse of drugs is unhealthy, I don't think the moral of the story is just simply "Don't do drugs". The creator put a lot of effort in to showing the bond between the mother and child, to emphasise on the immense loss the mother probably feels. So I think it's important to understand what is explored in the short is that most people who do drugs are trying to escape from their pain, suffering often linked to their personal losses, mental health problems, economic, financial and social conditions such as acute poverty etc. Admist their search to find something to numb their pain, they lose their way, they're already in the lowest point but the drugs drag them lower. So it's vital that we empathise with them and project that empathy through action...helping them get back on track. Drug addiction is a disease...its not a crime. While some people, like the mother can find her way back, its impossible for most individuals to accomplish that on their own without the support of others. The film pushes you to see it through a more humane, empathetic perspective. To expose us to the reality people undergo that leads them to the point of turning to drugs...and the inevitable addiction that follows.

I’d like to think the white flowers as the memories that she has with her daughter because after the daughter dies, she obviously becomes into pollen which then in a different scene the mother holds a flower, which I believe is to be a very close and dear memory to her. So when she kept thinking of that memory she had nothing to cope with the pain, so when the poppy (drugs) came into the picture, it made her forget all the sadness, that was until to the point the memories with her daughter slowly fades from the drugs use

Every body is taking about drugs and stuff but i think red flowers represent her sadness and anger combined and white flowers represent her daughter's sweet memories When her daughter died she became so sad , depressed and angry but then she realise that her sadness is making her forget her daughter's memories (fading of girl in red colour means her sadness is now so strong that it's gulping all her happiness )that's when she decides to break out of her own shell but its hard to do at once and then her daughter's memories (white flowers) help her escaping the sadness and aggression the bright light represents the new start of life (like sunshine after a long night) and at the end when she tucks the flowers in her hair it shows that her daughter's good memories are always with her 🌝 Well that's my opinion 🥺🥺🥺🥺

1:05-1:12 mother i don`t feel so good......she got thanos snapped away "mother was too happy so i gave her sadness......perfectly balanced as all things should be" apparently Daisies symbolise innocence and purity. This stems from an old Celtic legend. According to the legend, whenever an infant died, God sprinkled daisies over the earth to cheer the parents up

A gentle reminder to those unhappy people who try to drown their sorrows in Drinks and Drugs... Your sorrows are excellent swimmers and nothing can drown or destroy them.😂 By trying to drown your sorrows, you are actually drowning yourselves deeper in the murkiest misery! 😨
