What? The landscape was completely CG? Wow, i didn‘t expect that. The CG industry has really come to a level, where you can not distinguish between CG and real life shooting ...

That is because a lot of times the environment is 3D but the images used are still real. The 3D landscape is just for parallax purposes to combine different real places together. But agreed. Environments and metals are realistic as hell now.

They are basically real still image which uses a method called projection mapping to create a paralex effects

@@geemongeorge9651 yes, projection mapping is the way to get photorealisitc results. Even Pbr Materials cant come that close, since two things is missing and thats the complex lighting and the variation.

Digital Tutors. You'd need Maya or a software like it for the models/animated parts. Photoshop is used for a lot of it as well.

Late reply, but most things are 2D / 2.5D (projection mapping). - The environments are probably made in 'Photoshop' (matte paintings). - They have created 3D models probably in Maya (since its mostly used, but could be done in any 3D program. Blender is free 3D app though). - Compositing is 'probably', I'm using this word a lot, done in 'Nuke compositing'. In Nuke you can use the 3D model in combination with a 2D image (matte painting). You will project the 2D image on the 3D object to get a 3D feel. Check out 'projection mapping tutorial Nuke' here at KZbin.

Well in a nutshell you pick a photo of the scenery, hopefully close to the perspective you’ll need, and then create some generic geometry you can project it onto so that as the camera moves the parallax will sell the effect.
