Hands down the best short film I have ever seen and probably will ever see. The writing is good, the special effects are great. I mean it's nothing flashy but it feels realistic as hell. This reminds me a lot like that movie CHRONICLE where those kids get super powers and do some epic shit. I really think you could make this into a movie or at least make it into a three part short film. I would literally pay money to see a sequel or prequel or or whatever quel that comes out.
@moonstone51310 жыл бұрын
If this comes out as a full movie, I'm definitely going to watch it. This is a very interesting perspective of the vigilante concept. Instead of the whole thing being from the point of view of the main guy who finds himself with powers to go and chastise the criminals, the vigilante is an unknown person -maybe not even human at all- with unknown intent to the citizens, and doesn't seem to care about his impact on society either. This is a really really good short movie, and I seriously hope you'll think about developing this idea.

This should be made into a full movie. THAT would be interesting!! Especially with this point of view, Mike's I believe? I love the ending, making it look almost like the 'hero' has either come to finished his job or has come for a short visit. Mike's(?) expression showing that's he is relived that the hero has spared him or that he is thinking "Oh shit". This could be like the short version, and the full one will have a longer plot, but same beginning and ending, understand? Like it shows the main character's conflict and what has driven him to the point to do a crime for his family (I think that was the reason, right?) and obtain more money for them. Then with the ending it could make people either love it or yearn for more.

Flying man puts a whole new look on the "Superman" concept. Is he a hero or a villain? Should society tolerate such vigilantes? What about a social vigilante setting an example of the deviants within society. When would society reject the lone vigilante's personal code of conduct? What if he killed the wrong person...a man robbing a bank because bad guys were forcing him to do the theft by holding his family hostage, for example. What of one day he started killing kids for shop lifting? What if he decided all crimes were punishable by his version of justice? Absolute power is a fearful thing.
@Kneedragon19629 жыл бұрын
Superman doesn't do that over much but Batman does, and Spiderman as well. Lots of the elite see him/them as one more costumed freak / criminal. So they don't get along that well with the existing criminals, ok, that's good, but it doesn't make us feel safe... The later Batmans tried to keep within the original plot but look at it all again from a slightly more grownup perspective, which is good in some ways. But Batman and Ironman are both ambassadors for the US arms industry, and Spiderman and Superman both wave the flag of the free press...
@Polypropellor9 жыл бұрын
Kneedragon1962 Interesting take on all that. Then would it be safe to say society looks on the US arms industry as a kind of "Iron Man/Super Man"? I really had not thought of it in those terms. But, your point makes me think differently about it. I suppose media champions for free speech would be kind of populist "Super Heroes" in their own way.
@Kneedragon19629 жыл бұрын
Polypropellor Not sure I'd go that far, I don't quite know what 'society' thinks. I noticed myself, as a kid, that Clark Kent is a reporter, and Spidey is a press photographer. And Bruce Wayne is an orphan rich kid, who inherits a company that's a high tech arms manufacturer. Then Iron man comes along who's much the same. And stretchy Read Richards of the Fantastic Four is a scientist who develops trick stuff for the US gov & military. So... Children are encouraged to look up to and admire the press, the rich, and the arms industry. I was a kid around the time of the Vietnam war, so I could see why a little positive press in all those areas might be appreciated. Let's say that I didn't see a massive positive bias in people's views of those entities, I noticed a negative one, and I could see why some positive encouragement might be appreciated in some circles. It might be a step too far to accuse Marvel Comics of US propaganda, but mostly it carries a positive bias. Oddly, The Hulk does not. It carries a pretty negative view of the US military. The X-men was interesting. It took on several issues, notably racism and bigotry. Very timely. I read my first X-men comic about the time Martin Luther King was shot. As to the positive spin on the press, there are two ways you can see that, and I think both are valid. On the plus, you are teaching the value of the free press, and the people's right to know. On the other, Dr Gobels would have told Hitler to do the same thing, you don't want the populace asking if they can trust their media... Stalin would have loved some help to get everyone to look up to Pravda...
@Polypropellor9 жыл бұрын
Kneedragon1962 Are you suggesting comics are a sort of avenue used by the "establishment" to get into the early mind of people and set it on the "proper" course for future state molding? Almost certainly, what you are saying is a valid point...regardless of where the motivation came from. You know, in the days when Super Man and even Spider Man were popular, the "Red Menace" was a palpable scare across America. It may be the cartoonists themselves were subconsciously doing their part, if not for altruistic purposes, certainly to make their comics popular with the publishers and the contemporary public. In 1966, when I was stationed in Germany facing off with the Communists across the Check border, we sat in our tanks and radar stations soaking up the pages of Spider Man- the most popular of all the comics GI's in my outfit read. We traded issues and talked about Gwen Stacey, Mary Jane, Aunt May,and JJ Jameson and the seemingly unlimited list of villains as though they were real people and some times we would get into some pretty heated arguments over who as doing what to whom(we were average age 19 and bored silly, so...). My thought is the characters and stories were in line with our society at the time and I nocie they have changed to fit the image of society rather than tryting to mold society. For example the race issues and gay issues and even the Muslim issues have crept into the comics as time and society has changed. Stan lee, once thought of as a bold America loving patriot has now revealed himself (in my opinion) to be a bald borderline America hating socialist if not outright communist. His more recent influence on the comics he created certainly do reflect some pretty controversial ideas. Be that as it may, we might be onto something about the social influence of comics. They have never really been taken very seriously by the establishment so they have more or less been left to flag as the social breezes blew. But, as retired adults in my circle can attest (we still talk about them over coffee now and then), they have had a very significant role in how we have come to think of our society. After all...I can say personally how much I remember the various adventures of Super Man, Bat Man, Spider Man, The Hulk, The Fantastic Four, X-Men, Green Lantern, Jon Jones, Martian, Mandrake, The Avengers, Green Arrow, Wonder Woman, Captain America and even G.I. Joe. So, they certainly had an influence on me.
@Kneedragon19629 жыл бұрын
Polypropellor Am I suggesting they're an avenue used by the establishment? Not really, but mostly they seem or seemed to be lined up in ways that would sit well with the establishment. There were exceptions, but mostly those just seemed to put the rest in focus. LOL - There was one tv cartoon, I forget the name now, it didn't quite take off, that showed a super hero and he was the US president in drag...

This is such an amazing premise. The "Hero" is almost portrayed as more of a villain or monster, while the "villain" is shown to be just a regular guy trying to do what he needs to to support his family. This would make such an amazing movie. The entire lead up to the highway scene was really tense, and it felt as though I was watching more of a horror movie, which I think is awesome. Just imagine a horror movie where you're actually rooting for the villains because the Superhero is shown to be a blind-justice murderer.

The only question more difficult to answer than how to stop evil is by who's standard will evil be judged? However you may want to answer the two questions, this short graphically points out the trouble with one person rising up to take the scales to judge others. I would love to see something like this made into a full movie. The problem is, you're going to have a lot of people relating him to a darker version of Superman. If the makers of Man of Steel were smart, they would have used ideas similar to yours though. I like the idea of a mysterious flying man dealing justice and being called a vigilante, with realistic news reports on the subject. Man of Steel lacked such subtleties and instead went with mindless ACTION and little character development.
@funtourhawk9 жыл бұрын
M. Strain Jr. Dude, like the first 45 minutes is all character development for super man
@mstrainjr9 жыл бұрын
funtourhawk I mean for the actual Superman part of the movie, not all those flashbacks. It was filled with people continuously telling him who he was, and then he got his suit and the movie didn't make any fun out of it. He spent most of the movie brooding. There was no wonder about him flying around or trying out his powers. It was like, "Okay, you're Superman now, so go smash stuff." I think it would have been cool if they took the approach of this video here, where we see the reports coming out about a flying man. I would have liked to see peoples' reactions as they speculate about who it was, and some even doubting that he was real. But the movie was very narrow. Even though they were in a big city, it felt like all the film cared about was a handful of characters. At least the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies all had parts where the people of the city got involved in the events going on. Here, everyone just ran about as the world crumbled abound them, and we were supposed to care about Lois more than all those hundreds of people who were killed.

JacksonvillesDonatello The only way Batman can have a chance in a fair fight is if kryptonite is involved. The trailer seems to indicate that Superman is holding back. He says something about how he could kill Batman if he wanted to, which of course he doesn't.

Without the rule of law, we have nothing. However, when judges, even supreme court judges, DAs, and, particularly governors, start denying the citizens their civil liberties, and dismissing the freedoms guaranteed to "We the People" in the Constitution, the rule of law stops being the back bone of the nation. Even a "super villain" wouldn't have the ability to affect as many people, or do as much harm. That, however, has nothing to do with what an awesome short film this is. Packs a thought provoking story into just a few minutes and makes it look like a big budget movie preview. It would be a great movie.
