The insooent tower is actually pretty good. You need to level him up so that he will eventually come back with more than 100% of his stats. That way, he will begin to scale exponentually. You didnt even level him up, which is why he was kind of useless

You need to try Flower - Honey, idk why you dont like Honey, is great, also I highly recommend you to stack your towers instead of going wide, the limited resources make the investment on economy extremely great, also, the higher level your towers have the better the scaling

at level 5 the insolent tower gives over 100% "retained" stats but kinda useless early game unless you can find a way to synergize with it
